So.... what kind of fun stuff did any of you learn your first time out in the "real world"? From my own experiance:
* Plain, unmarinated, unbreaded white meat chicken doesn't taste like anything. The lack of flavor is astonishing.
* If you don't actively seek it out, nobody will deliver a newspaper to your house everyday. Then you don't have to throw out mountains of useless paper at the end of the week. :)
* There is no need for a conventional "ground" telephone service. At all.
I learned that dishes magically multiply in the sink, especially when you live with only guys.
And sleeping at 11 PM is a good thing, especially if work sucks. The day is more tolerable with a good sleep.
im gonna be out within the next 6 months, so i have to know, is the "real world" really that hard?
im hoping that having someone to split the bills will make life easier, but i wouldn't know, do any of you guys know?
i've only heard one person say that it's easy.
Eh.. if you're going to get a roomie, spend alot of time with them beforehand so you might catch on to whatever weird habits or quirks they might have. If you can live by yourself and remain in a stable financial situation, I say do it -- unless you can't stand not having other people around.Quote:

I tried the roommate thing twice -- once in a cramped college dorm room, once in a decent apartment. Both times it irritated me.
Aside from annoying roomies, the real world isn't too hard. Just watch your money and you'll be ok. Don't subscribe to cable TV if you don't watch TV. Don't get a land-based phone line if you have a mobile phone and can get broadband at your new place. Don't move into a slum or high crime area. Learn how to cook.
When I first moved out on my own I discovered that the water company really does shut off your water supply if you skip paying the bill a couple months in a row. I also learned that Five friends living in one house can create five enemies.
spliting bills can make your life easier if you're not ready to live on your own financially, but puting up with roomates crap can really wear you down......especially if you have a long lease to worry about, or you have no other options on living situations. you could room with your best friend in the whole wide world and end up hating thier guts after living with them.Quote:

1. Heh...hopefully your name is on the least, lest you kick them out. Roommates can be fund for obvious reasons (well, depending on what your preference is), but independence is great too.Quote:

Yeah, I'd have to say the "real world" is pretty easy, and is in fact no more real than the "fake world". You get a routine just like you had before, and you do it. Another revalation:
* If you don't put fancy lawn care shit on your lawn, you get a mess of clover and tiny white wild flowers, and not much actual grass. Amazing. And my whole life I just thought grass grew more than anything else just because. :)
* That mess of clover and white wild flowers can still be mowed to an even height where it does a decent imitation of grass.
I think moving out would be great fun! I'd love to rent a small house with, say, 2 of my friends. That would be awesome. I can see how they can get annoying though, so They'd have to be specific friends...
I'm only 17, so I only have one friend who has moved out, and he says that the one thing that he noticed is that food is damn expensive (but he's a cheapskate, so I dunno if this is true :p )
