Science Vs God?????

Science is not necessarily anathema to faith, unlike what many people believe (or would like to believe). After all, it is impossible to prove something through the scientific method, and science itself provides that "absence of evidence does not necessarily mean evidence of absence."

That doesn't mean that science and religion go hand in hand; they don't. Science attempts to seek answers and explanations, religion attempts to provide answers where there are none. Religion is moral and didactic (in most cases) where science is amoral and (at least ideally) takes things at face value.

I personally consider such mysteries as the creation of the world to be unknowable and, to an extent, unimportant. The only real explanations we have for the creation of the world are scientific theories that have as much going against them as for them, and stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. I'm more concerned with the happenings of today than something that happened long before I was born.

I don't give a flying shit what someone else believes in as long as they don't try to force it on me or use it to justify wrongdoing, and I think anyone that that tries to persecute someone that believes differently than they do is in serious need of a meaning in life. It's just now getting to the point where scientists can work without having to worry about some religious organization squashing them (and that's still happening in places. Some of these folks are pretty fucking scared of the theory of evolution).

As far as what I personally believe as per my religious persuasions...heh, that's for me to know. I learned better than to share that with others long ago.

Seriously though, Science cannot be proven. As Einstein once said:

A thousand answers do not make me right, but one can prove me wrong (or something like that).

Seriously, all science is is a collection of evidence that favour theories. None of it is hard proof, except for maybe some mathematics.

What the hell are you talking about? My car runs on an internal combustion engine that works because scientist explored the subject of chemistry and engineers used science to design the engine. THERE'S your hard friggin' proof! Science makes my house cool with air conditioning. Science makes my lights turn on. Science make my computer work. Science is used every day in thousands upon thousands of practicle applications. Next time you flick a light switch, watch TV or put on manufactured clothes, thank SCIENCE!

Further more, the theory of evolution is actually provable on a small scale. Any high schooler can tell you about fruit fly breeding experiments that completely altered the life and mating cycle f the fruit flys. This process is called micro evolution. Macro evolution, long term evolution that makes humans out of ape-like creatures and so on (not true apes, but ape-like creatures) is simply the process of "microevolution" on a long scale.

The validity of this doesn't mean god doesn't exist. All it means is that we didn't come from a garden.

blah, fucking reset form, why is that there, are we incapable of highlighting and deleting? -.- So before I reset form I was talking about how it's rule of biology that "all living things come from other living things" which would be science once again contradicting itself.If everything comes from something else, then the first living organisms had to be put here by something, the theory of God. Concerning the planets, it's a rule that "energy can neither be created nor destroyed" which would again be science contradicting itself. Something or someone would have had to place these first planets here with almost limitless potential energy. So if you ask me, science indirectly supports the theory of God. I guess my views come from my Catholic School biology teacher. She was actually very good at teaching and didn't try to brainwash you with all that god crap, but rather provided it as a possibility.

I never liked this line. They're not going to consider it wrongdoing, you're fine with them having the belief that it isn't wrong; When the time comes , they will use the belief to justify "wrongdoing".

The only reason you think you know the tree fell, and made a sound is from a assumption made on prior experence. You can't say the same thing about God because you have no prior experence like "well i saw god make this tree, so he must have made them all".

Perhaps the theory behind the combustion engine is actually wrong, and it works for some other reason not yet discovered. Science is simply never concrete.


I'm currently learning about Einsteins theory of relativity, and its blowing my mind! It has changed my entire way of thinking.

arjue, what's his theory? Any links to it? or copy and paste into forums?

Basically, Einstein predicted that the speed of light is always the same, no matter who is observing it ie its NOT relative to the observer. This has all kinds of complications. I just found this link. I hope it helps.
