Hey, I use my real name. :) But anyway, I try not to be too bitter in my posts. And I think it's pretty rare when I shit on someone's thread or I act like a troll. And I'm almost always polite in real life or on IM conversations. Maybe there's something about these boards that causes people to act a certain way.
I was a really combative individual when I first discovered online communities in '99. That attitude spilled over until about 2000-2001, but I think it's lessening its grip on me as I've matured (OK, started ignoring contrary opinions), and I try to avoid endless, pointless, inevitably embarrassing debates. For the most part, I think I've succeeded. My posts are no characterized by an easy-going pointlessness. Much better.
An easy explanation for hostility: teenagers + internet.
Heh...the only thing that's quite annoying is Andyrose and his army of Neomega followers spamming this board to get people to join their community. ;)
Seriously though, the negative commentary now and then doesn't bother me much at all. It's not uncommon that people won't get along...but maybe that's why a number of people joined sites like Neomega (or plan to create their own). One sadly can not control the attitudes of others simply by banning them. If that's how they wish to act online, it's their own perogative to change. Some do it for attention, others out of bordeom...or even entertainment. How we choose to respond to it of course, will vary...

Anyway, I don't like being negative so I'm not. And if the board gets negative I avoid those particular boards for a time. But, everyone has their own opinion. So everyone has their own way of posting, some troll, some post :) all the time, some flame...I'm pretty used to it now. To each their own. :D
My trolling is limited to mostly pointing it out when you say something stupid or generally making you feel like an idiot for having a wrong opinion (and there are wrong ones). I never let loose a personal attack or anything of that sort, and I've rarely seen anyone do that here since Zidane has been gone.
Who exactly is so hostile? The only person I've ever seen get truly hostile is EThugg, the rest of us are mostly just argumentative and passionate about certain things. I think you're reading a lot of biting wit and misconstruing it for anger or hate.

Blah, yeah, people have been sucky, but what can you do eh? I've tried to create my own community where people arent so uptight, or annoying, or stupid, or pathetic, or paranoid, or neurotic, or whatever else grates my wang the wrong way. Thing is, all the people that I dont talk to "IRL" about videogames are online so sporadicly that it was futile. I get the fewest headaches here, and am able to even smile on the occasion when certain people aren't posting.(they usually have names that start with an "s" and end with a "tibbons"[would that be considered a personal attack?*gasp!*])
Yeah, I like the board for the most part, though it would be nice to see some people lighten up a tad. I would suggest a beer, but that might send this thread into a flammable oblivion. Fun.
