I feel bad for people who let something like that detract from the groove created on boards like this. Damn...guess that's you... :oQuote:

I'd rather you didn't feel bad for me. You're the guy that's admitted to spending twelve hours a day on the internet. I find that a tad more pathetic than using fake names, but maybe that's just me.Quote:

Hey, Seven, stop trying to troll me. Look up ":P" and see what it means. THanks, dude.
Let's hear your theory, korian. This might be interesting. :)
I'm sure people have their own reasons for having their usernames hidden. My theroy though it can't be proven and is only a small percentage is that some people who don't show that they are browsing use it as front to take on Dual personalities and or do the hit and run element of surprise posting. So if someone talks shit or whatever thinking the person is gone, they will be surprised by the person they were talking about suddenly starting to post. I understand why mods might not want to be know when they are on as a way of checking posts, but as far as other posters, I like to have ppl know when I'm here posting. MattVanStone I'm sure you have your own reasons.
Well, I'm usually pretty friendly, and dont bite, unless I'm provoked or someone badmouth my favorite games !!!! :)
And I have whole 3 letters of my real name in my nick !!!!
O_O
What an intriguing theory, but I highly doubt that's why MVS (or really anyone here) uses the feature.
I generally use to "hide" so that I can surf the boards in peace :p
Yep Bahn whenever there's Drama going down I notice you make your username visibile. Otherwise I thought it was pretty much hidden
As for MVS I was thinking that it is ironic that he gets on peoples cases for not using real names but yet doesn't want it to be known when he is browsing.
I don't find it ironic, and that's not really the reason.
At times, I do just screw with the options of the board, turning avatars, sigs, pm's and visibility off. Sometimes I change it around and all that.
I only have the one account. I did once try to set up a 2nd, when I was banned, but that didn't fly and it's got 0 posts.
It's good if you want people to know when you are posting, but, for me, I have my ICQ and Aim numbers down there below, and if I was truly trying to hide, then I would not do that and allow someone to IM me at any time I am on.
I don't see a clear comparison, personally, between my online status not in the header of the pages (but shown in my threads that I am online, and someone could IM me) and a person choosing to use an alternate name for themeselves.
In the end, I'm sure bahn could tell you how many accounts I use.
:) :(
And...I\'m not getting on anyones case here, I simply said I feel bad for it, just as the 1st poster in this thread stated he felt bad about something.
I\'m not slandering 99.99 percent of this board, I simply find it odd and feel bad :P
Korian: I've been visible for a few weeks now. It's not based upon drama occuring on the boards. I am afraid you're reading a bit too much into this. To play devil's advocate, all the ppl that have registered here aren't necessarily all suspect to creating multiple accounts (short of those times accounts were made for "entertainment" purposes.
I discussed this awhile ago, because it seemed to become something of a trend. But now, I just don't care. As long as everyone can mutually have respect for each other, or at least try to co-exist on the board and enjoy their time here, that's all that matters to me.
This discussion is going to take an interesting spin (possibly for the worst).
