Well, Just read that Columbia bought the rights for this film in US and Europe, so lets keep our fingers crossed for a good R1 version, to come out some times in the future :)
This and Shirayuiki-Hime are on my most anticipated list. If Columbia is doing the U.S. release--I think it will be faithful to the original. As long as it stays out of Disney's hands, I'm happy.
Thanks for the link.
Well, I can get Shurayuki Hime Japanese R2 dvd now, but its doesnt have English subs, and kinda expensive :)
But I heard that ADV or some other publisher will be releasing US version this Fall.
i hope it's subtitled.
Good to see someone else, other than Ssbomberman, to be interested in my Asian movie topics :)
Isn't Takeshi Kaneshiro a HK actor?
No, He is Japanese, but he does appear in many HK films, since he popular in HK, as well as in Japan. He was in Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, Downtown Torpedoes, The Odd One Dies and other.
He also was a model for the character of Samonosuke in Onimusha.
I'll see it...
Also not to get too far off topic but has anyone seen The Contract Killer with Jet Li? I think that is what it is called seen it at the video store the other day.
Well, Its cut and rescored US release of Jet's The Hitman. Last HK film Jet made before leaving for US. Its not bad film, does have some cool action scenes, and Jet has a cool sword fight at the end against 3 bad guys. Dont get the US version though, and look for HK release.
WANT. All I need now is Returner and I'm swimming in a puddle of my own joy!
Well, I found one review, but the reviewer sound like an asshole, who doesnt like action movies,m and just bitch for sake of bitching :pissed:
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/...20020828a4.htm
But at least he tells us about plot line, which is not bad.
"Their film might be described as "Leon" meets "A Better Tomorrow" meets "The Matrix" meets "E.T." meets "Alien" meets "Gremlins" meets "Terminator"
That doesnt sound that bad to me. And action seems to be done very well, so I'm sold :)
The previews are very good. Impressive camera movement and character design.
I love how they hammer the name of the movie into your head at the end of the trailers.
Returner! returner. RETURNER!
The review is rather negative. He says that this film would have been good in 1982--well I doubt those effects and camera work would have been possible at that time. I'll wait and judge for myself, but I'm sure I will like it as long as the action is good...Quote:

The guy who reviewed it, doesnt sound like the person who enjoy action films, so he should stop writing about things that he CLEARLY biased about. Go watch some Drama or something :)
Transforming Plane(into Robo-Insect!!) is cool idea :)
Looks pretty bad ass to me.
He also needs to get his facts strights. Since when Snipes had a Blonde hair-do in Blade???
If he cant even distinguish Blade from Demolution Man !! :p
Looks pretty cool. Too bad I can't view the trailers though :(
BTW, AMO Tokyo has Shurayuki-hime for $36. Like you said, no subs though. If you're REALLY interested I'd email the helpful fellows at http://www.midnighteye.com and ask them if it's hard to watch the movie w/out subs. I did the same for another Japanese film- 19. I plan on buying that as soon as I get some cash. The only bad thing about AMO Tokyo is that they only take credit card orders. Because of this, all my R2 business thus far has gone to CD Japan. They're great, they take International Postal Money Orders and they commonly give away posters and other free stuff. They only have a Making of Surayuki-hime DVD though.

Well, Shurayuki-hime will be released by Tartan in UK, September 23 :) But it will be PAL version, but I think its Region Free. Benson World has it for about $25.
I know I will be getting it :) As for movie, dont expect it to be all action, since its not, and trailer kinda misleading in that area. But what it got, still should be pretty cool.
I can't play PAL in my regular player can I?Quote:

No, Unless you have a PC dvd player, you can set it up to play PAL and other Region coded dvds. But regualar US players wont play it.
Its also available on Ebay, on VHS for about $10. Its a bootleg, but if you really wanna see it, thats a way :p
Know anything about the quality of the bootleg?Quote:

Well, It might be a rip of Japanese R2 dvd, but that one doesnt have subtitles, so I'm not sure how that part was handled. Or it might be just a screener copy, and then it wont be very good.
I'll see if I can find more info on that. I wouldnt mind getting it, if it was released earlier, but since R2 dvd is about to come out, I will go with that.
When does this "R2 DVD" come out? I very much would like to see this movie. Japanese language and English subtitles of course. :)
Well, I dont know yet :) The movie been in theaters less than a month :)
But fear not, I will post all the info about dvd, when it becomes available. Hopefully Japanese dvd will have English subs, something that many dvds of late lack :(
Wow, interesting... and certainly cool. I'd definitely like to check this film out in some way, shape or form. I'll be checking back periodically for news on this one.

No problem :) I will keep updating this thread, as I find more info.
