Well, now that we have discussed "pop" Vs "soda", let's dive in to the correct use of plurals:
Enland: The crowd are going wild!
America: The crowd is going wild!
Ummmm.... maybe I'm just a crazy American, but there's only 1 crowd in that sentance. I don't care how many people are in the crowd, it's still just one crowd. And it is going wild. Geez, for people who invented the language you'd think English people would know how to use it better. :p
well - i don't know how you can argue against their english - it is after all the english that American english came from. Sure some things may sounds wierd but thats only because American english is slang and well...incorrect. But hey whatever works.

American English is neither more correct nor worse than British English. The English language in America, being so far removed from constant exposure to traditional British English, began to evolve on its own. American culture also began to take its own shape and this was directly manifested in the spoken language (language is one of the first and most common forms of cultural expression). Accents and dialects (cajun, southern drawl, etc) began to form, and distinct terms and expressions arose as well. This happens everywhere that a group of people are isolated geographically as well as socially and culturally. That's why Australian Enlgish, South African English, Jamaican, Canadian, Indian, and anywhere else the language was introduced are now unique and distinctive.
The development of language is socio-linguistic in nature. How each culture develops is directly related to the path the language of said culture will take. No dialect is more correct than any other. They are just different, that's all. :)
if a language is a standard, modifications that go against that standard are incorrect, with respect to the standard. granted, "British English" is a perfect representation of "British English",but it is a flawed form of "American English". In function, they can be seen as merely different. in both cases, you can let it be known that there is a "crowd" that is "going wild". however, in comparison to a standard, for my example, themselves, they are both incorrect. the American version is an incorrect representation of the British version, and vice versa. But, they are both "english" correct? So the idea would be to find a unifying English standard to compare them to.preferably an early one.

The problem is, British English is not a incorrect form of any other form of English, nor is any other type of English an incorrect form of British English. A language cannot be "incorrect" unless it is deliberately being spoken as such. The only case I know of this happening is in the case of the Rastafari in Jamaica, who mispoke the Queen's English as a deliberate form of protest against the British crown. All other variations of the language (any, not just English) are natural variations that evolve over time. There is no "correct" or "incorrect."
You won't be able to find an earlier standard for comparison because earlier versions of today's English (early & middle English) are practically German! You wouldn't even be able to read early English, although you could read some middle English (Chaucer's English).
Think of it.... Shakespeare's English is known as "early modern English, and he can be hard as hell to read sometimes!
Still, it is fun to poke at the British. :)
