I loved these in the arcades. They are two of my all-time favorite shmups and reason alone to go MVS (phantom converter coming soon!).
Starbase 299 has some neat articles on Pulstar and Blazing Star.
Any fans?

They are both great games. I haven't played either in a while but I remember liking Pulstar more.
Blazing Star is merely good, Pulstar is phenomenal. One of my all time favorite shooters. Pulstar instills this sense of suspense and tension that's kind of similiar to watching a good horror movie.
Pulstar is also the hardest game I've ever played that's hard in a well designed, intelligent way. Not a crappy controls, ridiculous level design or whatever way.
So yeah, I love this game :)
My memory is hazy; were these part a Geo cabinet?
Pulstar is the greatest shmup of them all. I will never forget Takui's review in GameFan.
I really love both of these shooters. In fact we actually have both MVS's for our store cabinet. :) I must say though, as wonderful as Pulstar is, it pisses me off to no end. I usually get to around stage 6 before I get absolutely frustrated and say fuck it.
Ah, but Pulstar is always fair. Later levels require some serious memorization, but it can be done.
There's nothing quite like being mere pixels away from reaching a checkpoint on the later levels, coming thiiis close to dying, and then sailing through. You mine as well be trying to defuse a bomb.
I can't help but slobber over this one, it's one of my all time favs.
Pulstar - i like the game but it is so close to R-Type that it`s embarrasing.
Blazing star for my money is by far the better game.
Blazing Star is like the R Type sequel i was always hoping for, only quicker and better. I dont care for Pulstar much however, boring shmup if yu ask me, BS on the oter hand is awesome, i got the MVS which desperatley is crying for a home...
hey, try R-Type Leo ! ;)
