Finally got Space Channel 5
For $8, I couldn't hold out any longer. :) So..... Before I get into the actual game, why the heck did they use pre-rendered backgrounds? The actual pre-renders themselves don't look like anything the DC couldn't handle in real time, and the compression artifacts make the video look awful. They could have significantly cut down on BG detail to render in real time and it still would have looked better without those artifacts. Very puzzling choice on the developer's part.
Anyway, it's a fun game so far. The timing is brutal though. The game doensn't give you any margin for error on your button presses. There are times when I swear I'm hitting the button exactly right and it still buzzes me anyway. I'm almost used to it, but after playing so much DDR (a much more forgiving game), it's quite an adjustment. The hardest part is just remembering whatever long string of moves your opponent just rattled off. Going from memory is much harder than following real time arrow cues. I was pleasantly surprised by the voices. Dubs usually make me cringe, but the English actually came out quite well here. But what is up with your station producer (or whoever he is) trying to say "shoot"? It's always "press the A button when they say 'que'" or "Watch out, they're going to chu!" or some crap like that. :)
