Extended Play Vr. Electric Playground

I don't know if many of you have access to these two TV gaming shows, but what the hell, I'll post it anyway. I'm really bored.

Which of these two shows do you like to watch, if either.

IMHO, Electric Playground is a horrid excuse for an informative gaming show. The advertisements act as if the show focusses on game strategy. "Get the strategy, Get the code, because knowledge is power, and power? You're going to need it!", horse sh*t! They may give you one tip per episode and one code. The hosts are annoying too, especially that crap with the dark hair.

Electric Playground is terrible, they repeat way too often and they aren't very in depth with their reviews. They're also slow on the curve, and review old stuff.

Extended play is OK, it could do better. Sometimes Adam manages to squeeze in some good reviews and some new stuff. Sometimes he doesn't get any good material on the show, but I like his style of reviewing. Sometimes they get import information and interviews from japan. I was hoping that Extended Play would cover the B6 Tournament.

They should just pay me and I could beat them both. :cool:

I've only seen Electric Playground, so I can only comment on that. I think the show is interesting when they are on location at like a game developer's office, or gaming convention or something, but otherwise it's not so great. I think at times I only watch the show just to see footage of games that I haven't played yet. The two hosts (Tommy and...Victor is it?) seem so clueless at times. More Tommy than the other guy, though.

i've never seen electric playground and when my dad switched from DishNetwork to DirectTV i lost TechTV. :(

I've never seen Electric Playground but I like Extended Play. Extended Play use to be ok but now its actually pretty good. Ever since that Kate left the show seems to focus all on games instead of going to stupid locations to do stupid stuff. I like the fact that whatever game their talking about their acutally showing it not just showing the host talking. Reruns arent too bad either. Their pretty update on new game reviews also. I watch it pretty much every Friday night at 8 pm Cent on Tech TV.

I'd like it more if Extended Play were longer than 1/2 an hour. It seems that when they finally get into some good stuff, there's about 5 minutes of showtime left and they just skim over the game, instead of giving it the attention it deserves.

Isn't Tommy the guy who used to make tons of game music? I remember seeing ads for his album in EGM forever ago, and he looked like Joey from Blossom. Pure comedy.

Yeah, he did the music in a lot of games.

I've been watching Electric Playground for years now, and I still enjoy it. You're not supposed to take the show seriously, and if you can ignore the cheesy computer effects and light fanboyism, you'll come to love it. I'd rather have manchild Tommy reviewing a game, than someone aspiring to work the CNN desk some day.

I had better hold my comments back. Waayy to much anger for Tommy Talrico have I. Extended Play is leaps and bounds above Electric Playground. If, however, instead of reviews at the end of Playground, they tourtured Tommy whilst making fun of him, the show would be much better.

That Steve and Daves videogame explosion or whatever its called it pretty atrocious aswell. I still want to make my videogame show on Public Access, but my friends that were gonna be on the show with me bailed pretty much, and I dont have the time to do everything on the show. Ah well, maybe someday.

To the best of my knowledge, Tommy "The shadows are circles!" Talrico is still doing music for games. Too bad he doesn't stick to writing music and stay away from reviewing games. Didn't he and the other guy move on to the G4 network?

I enjoy Extended Play for the most part. The show doesn't take itself too seriously, and makes me laugh at least once. Adam loves games of all sorts, and it shows. He has an enthusiasm for what he does, versus the virtrol coming from Tommy. A lot of people bitch about Extended Play, but I think the crew does an excellent job considering they have a tiny budget. From what I understand (from the ExP message boards), they're doing well to get 30 minutes a week. Almost sounds like they have a smaller budget than John C. Dvorak's show.

Btw, does anyone here get the G4 network, and is there anything good on it?

About his little comment on that. Crap christ crimminy that pissed me off. You don't like a game cause the shadows are circles? Is that the only thing you can find bad about a game to dog it? Heh. :) When he said that I couldn't help but think of Nick Rox and his blue shadows. :) My wife and I just looked at each other when those words popped out of his mouth and we both loudly proclaimed "What the f*ck?!"

What channel is each of these on? I have never seen either one but would like to do so.

Yoshi: Extended Play is on Tech TV, and Electric Playground is on the Science Channel. Both show in Thursday nights I beleive, with repeats at various times in the week.

The previous week's episode repeats during the week, with the last showing being @ 4:30PM on Friday. The website has a full schedule of when the episodes show and repeat.


Electric Play is one when Discover Sci feels like showing it. I think the website is http://www.elecplay.com

You are oh so right too. That Vic guy only has his head halfway up there though. The fact that they have an ex- Real World cast member talking to celebrities about video games further proves thier rectal vision.

Extended play is the superior show.I liked their E3 coverage,but they should have made the E3 episodes an hour.Electric playground sucks ass ,but at least they have that cute chick from the "REAL WORLD:new orleans"on it.

They used to have most of the Electric Playground episodes available online on their site, but now there only seems to be one episode available at a time. And it has been the same episode up there for quite a while now.

Another thing about Tommy, he always seemed to give Dreamcast games lower scores because of the controller. He would be like: "So, this game is pretty good, and normally I would give it a 7, but because I don't like this terrible Dreamcast controller, I give it a 5". And then his partner would just look at him in amazement.

I think the same. The reviews on the Tech TV website are very well-done, but the show doesn't show that.

I like Adam Sessler. Yeah, he's maybe a little dorky, but he's enthusiastic about practically everything, and in my mind is the perfect personality for what the show is trying to do. I think the show does a great job, considering the miniscule budget.

I don't like Electric Playground one tiny bit.

I caught Extended Play last night for the first time, thanks to you guys. I enjoyed it, but I agree that it needs to be an hour long. The footage of Orta and the two Lord of the Rings games was very nice.

I can't believe we've gone 1 1/2 pages without a bunch of Extended Play haters coming into the thread...amazing...

No way, that show is hilarious. They piss off so many gamers with sticks up their asses, I can't help but appreciate them. Remember the FFX review when they went on and on about how it totally sucks, and you're stupid if you like it? Genius.

I don't entirely know where I stand on this issue..

Tiny Tommy Tallarico acts like it's an outstanding offense against God in heaven if a game doesn't have the best graphics known to man, so good they kill your retinas, and makes a fool of himself in his clever "montages"...

That fat guy(who's name escapes me) is a little more competent in his reviews but whenever he interviews a game maker his jaw gets a little loose...if you know what I mean..

Then that have this one girl who comes in and throws a ninja star at the TV and gives some random code to some game and that's all she does.

Then if I recall they had a new girl that interviewed "celebrities" like Wierd Al and Gary Coleman and they would talk about their favorite game..


at the end you are treated to clever "Bloopers" because these guys are cooler than you will ever be. EVER. So don't try.

Then there is Extended play which is usually more game and less talk, but that host looks like some guy that hides out in women's shoe stores or bowling alleys so he can smell women's shoes or something. And he's a little TOO enthusiastic about games like if you DO NOT BUY a 4 out of 5 game it's almost like a crime against humanity. At least his heart is in the right place..and he allows us to know what Max Headroom would look like if it smoked crack religiously and didn't twitch and played video games.

..this post is run amok with pretention...I'll admit that. However neither show is one I personally would want to base a game purchase on by going by their reviews(however it is good to see the games actually in motion on my TV), but at least it's entertaining to see public displays of inanity.


Of course I shouldn't criticise..but..yet..I cannot help it..

Extended Play has always been pretty professional and I have to give them quite a bit of respect for showing Alien Soldier in one of their import specials and featuring clips of Alien Soldier (again! there's a well read fan working somewhere on that show) and Psycho Fox in their Sega tribute clip montage shortly after Sega announced they were going third party. Wonder if they'll have/had anything on Ikaruga? I've missed the show the past few months.

And I hope I NEVER see Electric Playground.

Shinobi, you lost TechTV when you switched to DirecTV? Weird. We've had it on our DirecTV service ever since the channel first went on DSS 3 years ago.

I have the G4 network and Tommy(sucks at gaming)Tallarico and Victor Lucas do have a show on it called Judgement Day. I really don't care for Tommy's opinions cuz they seem so biased it's ridiculous. He said that JSRF was "too original" and claimed that was a bad thing. I think he should seriously stick to making game music and stop trying to review games.

Maybe, but I think I missed all thier reviews inbetween the friggen lame "sketches" and Sobe product placement. I didnt even know it was about games till someone told me.

Yeah, even they acknowledged it. I didn't watch the show for the games. They handled the whole Sobe thing well too, by badmouthing the product at every turn.
