I'm always leary of using anything from another culture unless I really know what it means and understand its signficance. Not saying you don't, just commenting. Kind of like how people in Asian countries are sometimes seen wearing shirts like "I hate myself and want to die" and they have no clue what it means.

The closest I've come to a tattoo was getting my navel pierced. It didn't hurt at all, I didn't even realize he had done it till he said so. But it later got infected and in the end when I finally took it out it was painful, I buckled over from it.

Anyway, I'm kinda curious about these video game tattoos. Any pics up on the web somewhere?

None, because I honestly can't think of anything I want tatooed on my body for the rest of my life. And if I were to have it removed, I never should have got it in the first place.

Some of my tatts that I don't necessarily appreciate that much now that I'm older have got major significance. The very fact that they never go away adds much meaning. To me some of these that I now consider ugly symbolize very solid lessons learned. I suppose people remember the truly important lessons no matter how they're marked. For me seeing the external mark that manifested itself at a time when a lesson was also being learned(usually unwittingly at the time) means very much even if the actual picture's meaning has faded.

I have no tattoos, nor would I ever consider getting one.

Stone already summed up my thoughts on the matter pretty well. If I were to choose some ill-advised, quick-fix method of self-identification, I would choose a method less painful and less likely to give me hepatitis, HIV or any number of communicable diseases.

You have a far, far, FAR greater chance of getting any of your diseases mentioned above through more "natural" (sex for example), than you ever will by getting a tatoo/piercing.

Unless your just having your friends come over and "tat" you with a bottle of ink and a sharpened paper clip.

Find a tatoo studio, get to know the people, ask them about there sterilization methods, watch them for a while and you'll have no risk.

The chances of you getting a comunicable disease from a tatoo or piercing is very great indeed!

The only thing I can really see myself getting tattoos of is music-related things, since that is where I draw almost all my main creative influences and personal expressions, but getting a tattoo of one of the bands that influence me most or a tattoo of a guitar is not only downright cliche, but pretty damn tacky as well.

I have the Alkaline Trio heart in the middle of my upper-back. (Between the scars for anyone that's keeping score). It really has nothing to do with the band; I just truly appreciate the art. It doesn't hurt that I like the band a lot; but if I hate 'em in a few years it won't matter much...

I also agree with Pa about the lessons learned point of view...

No one who likes the alkaline trio will ever end up hating them.
