Owing to the fact that I have been stricken with a vile plague (read, a mild case of the common cold), I must humbly request that cigs or mode7 usher this thread off to the board of records, where it may continue to grow happily with the conquests of many gamers.
That combined with the fact that (in theory) I am to leave this coming monday for two weeks means that even if I was in good health, I would be unable to update ;)
So then, another week has passed, post your updates :)
I beat Tenchu 2 with Rikimaru a few days back, so I consider that satisfactory enough.
Add Mafia and Super Mario Sunshine to my list, and I finished No One Lives Forever :) And Vic, it may be some work, but do you think you could copy and paste all of our lists into your first topic? I had to search through a few pages to rememeber what I had listed >_<

I don't know why I don't just trade in games like FF8 and Grandia, I never want to play them ever again, I'm on the second disc of Grandia, long way in and it just bores the hell out of me.
After 6 months, I finally beat Xenogears! (I'll put up a thread about it tomorrow - it's late now). Now all I've got left is Turismo 3 (only 10% done still) and about 80 hours of Dragon Warrior VII. But I believe in me! I can do it!
In the last 9 months I've taken down Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy IX, Phantasy Star Online, Record of Lodoss War, E.G.G., Zelda III (second time), Suikoden (fourth time), Suikoden II, and now Xenogears (a bunch of other games too - those are just the rpgs). With that in mind, I know if I focus I can take down DW7 and finally rid myself of my pile of shame, after months of dedication and keeping new purchases to a minimum.
Of course, then all the holiday season games are going to come along and throw that all to heck...

Ok, when I said two weeks, I lied :P I wound up doing back to back projects one after another after another.
Now I'm finally free of work, and gaming with a vengeance.
If there's still interest in the warpact, I'll continue to update this, if there's not, I'll let this thread return to the grave. Let me know :D
Um... I beat Strider 1 for PSX, even though that's not on my original list... can I get a point? :)

Okay, this is my pile as it stands right now:
1. Suikoden II (must get all 108 stars!)
2. Dynasty Tactics (gotta get all 12 endings - yeesh)
3. Gran Turismo 3 (going for 100%, about halfway there)
4. Silent Hill 2 (all endings)
5. Dragon Warrior VII (still about 60 hours to go)
6. Virtua Fighter 4 (reach Emperor Dragon in kumite)
It may take forever, but I will kill that list!
Since beating Xenogears (my last post in this thread) I've also taken down Ridge Racer V, Devil May Cry, Onimusha and Rez.
Anyway, I can't tell you how glad I am that this thread is back up and running, since I need a bit of motivation to go through some of those "multiple ending" games again.

Okay, I'll bite. My list is absolutely freakin' huge. It's plain sad, really. There are some classic titles that I've either never bothered to play much or never got around to finishing. Here we go:

Jee-zus! I truly have more games than I have time to play. Currently, I'm re-playing FF5 on PS1, since I've never completed it 100% (all the side-quests, mastered all jobs, etc.). I'm also playing all the Mega Man games I have... in order. Just finished part 6 tonight.
Because it's always important to look on the bright side... the best thing about being a game hoarder... I haven't been bored in years. I mean that.
Man, just stop buying games now. Seriously. The above (with some games I didn't care for/play edited out) is basically a "best games ever" list. Much happiness is on your way. Not sure Cigs, I was thinking about that before. Might save some irritation from the regular forum goers who aren't interested in this thread, but on the other hand, less people browse the records hall, and I suspect more people have piles of shame than a driving competitive urge (which isn't exactly what this is about). I could be wrong though :) If anyone complains about it stridently enough, I don't have any objections to moving it though.
I was just thinking about that, since the list is getting rather large. I'm not entirely sure what the best way to handle this would be. If I put everyones lists in the original post, it would be unbelievably huge. Starting a second thread to track peoples stacks would work, but clogging up the forum with two threads to the same topic seems rude, and it would ONLY work with some administrational help (only one post per person to the thread, to track each stack individually).Quote:

Really, it almost needs a webpage, so you could login, view your stack, and mark off completed titles. Hmm.
Any suggestions? I'd like to make this easy to participate in. The idea is to give incentive for people to play their games, not to bog them down in the recordkeeping ;)
Incidently, I am willing to do the gruntwork, I'll maintain peoples lists (well, all but the 50+ people, they can do their own lists as pennance :P), but where to put it, and what form to store it in is the question.

I gave up on Grandia 2. It's now back at the store. I just couldn't deal with it.
I'm going to grit my teeth and finish up Tales of Destiny 2. I reached the "Final Dungeon (TM)" So I just have to plow through that and I'll be done. And I can finally clear that off the plate.
I think once I get that over with, I'm going to go through and actually finish Tactics. I have to beat into my skull that I really *don't* need to go level up my Jobs any more :) Otherwise I'll NEVER finish.

A bit of warning about the final boss of tales of Destiny: unless you do a particular something, you'll die after you beat her. The margin for error is very little, and it smacks of a cheap way to kill you after spending 20 minutes in one fight.

Also, the vast majority of the games I listed aren't ones that I've purchased and never bothered to play... they're games that I've played (ranging anywhere from a couple minutes to 120+ hours) that I just haven't "finished" for one reason or another. Take Final Fantasy Tactics for example... I've played it all the way through (including seeing the ending) and leveled my characters quite a bit, but I've yet to tackle Deep Dungeon. Only then would I consider the game truly finished.
Finished King's Field. Really excellent game. I know it is a very love/hate sort of thing, but if you've never tried it, pick it up and give it a shot. Give it a few hours though, it starts out slow...
Unfortunately, I added Shinobi to the pile :P Although that shouldn't take too long to finish... I'll probably polish off Mark of Kri next, then do Wizardry. In the mood for rpgs.
If you mean the PS2 Shinobi... shouldn't there be some sorta amount of time that the game should sit around before being considered on the pile of shame? I dunno, I don't consider games that I just bought on the "pile" until they've been there for over a month unplayed (and unopened).Quote:

I hadn't really thought of that. Good point.
Part of it though I suppose is self-imposed penalty for buying a new game when I have THIRTY others unfinished, ya know? Granted, I tend to leave games in varying states of 'unfinished' (eg, I have several rpgs at the end/near the end/etc), so I dunno if I should really count those either.
It's a personal thing. If you buy a game and you want it added, just mention it in the thread and I'll do so. If you aren't ashamed of it, don't worry about it :D Personally, I want every one of my 'beatable' console games finished, it'd be a nice accomplishment. Then I could contemplate my PC pile afresh, go back and play the cool ones guilt free, put some heavy time into shooters, and so on ;)

Keep hammering on Morrowind... once you get past a certain point on the main quest, you should knock out the rest of it pretty quickly. I know it took me awhile to get started, then I got rolling and ploughed the last half of it pretty fast.
Without spoiling anything, I'm wondering how Tribunal will be challenging after finishing the main game. Then again, I wasn't a level whore. I know a lot of people were complaining because they were bored at the end of the game at level 60 or whatever, my char was 20 when I finished the main story, so it may wind up being absurdly hard for me :P
Well, if we're considering new games, then I've beaten a few. Mega Man Zero, Castlevania:HoD, and Super Mario Sunshine. But I'm not, because aside from enjoying these new games, I don't want any excuse not to go through my pile. And still I haven't chipped away at it. :(
You've got some really good games in your pile. I say play Legend of Mana, but I'm biased, I loved that game ;)
You've also got an abnormally large number of portable games... I try not to buy too many, I can't stand the tiny screens/controllers (though I did pick up a tv adaptor for my GBA, which is pretty handy).
If it isn't good or cheap, then I don't buy it, that's what I always say. :) I'm currently trying to finish Rockman... I guess I should start updating my list. :(Quote:

Various problems like lack of a shooter genre option and I'm the only one who can see all the info on my games keep this site from being an inventory solution.

I was going to say Omega, you've got a lot of games on there that I wouldn't count. Specifically the shooters, but then a lot of other games also - you genuinely want to finish Adventures of Lolo and Wall Street Kid? Yeuch, your list reminds me of a Nintendo Power I read when I was 9 years old ;)
Faxanadu I can understand, but the others? I hear Software Etc buys used games :D
That's just personal preference though, if you really want all those shooters and truly old (and/or bad) games on your list, that's up to you ;)
I'm proud to say I'm finally in the process of finishing Code Veronica; I didn't even have to start over- just did some creative running instead. Great game, I can't wait for Biohazard 0. I'll be back when I'm done.

Top 5 most shameful:
1. Metal Gear Solid - Got it a few months after it came out, and never got past the third area (less than an hour in).
2. Shining Force III - Had it for a few years, and I haven't ever played past the first or second battle. Paid around $80 for it, too.
3. Dino Crisis - This one is more thanks to Capcom's mod protection, but in the past 3-4 years I've got maybe 30 minutes logged on it.
4. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - I was really psyched for this one, played it for about 5 hours, but never really got anywhere. Haven't played since.
5. Ranger X - Looks like a fine game, but I just can't seem to get into it. I've probably played the first two stages a few times.
Yes, I do! A lot of those games I listed was because I bought them but hardly play them (or in some cases, never played them). Once I feel like I've gotten enough out of them, I'll cross them off my list. If a game has an ending to see (like Lolo), I want to see it. If it's a shooter, I don't want to be a no-miss master at it, just good enough to make a good dent in its challenge. If it turns out I really hate <x> game, I'll just cross it off and put it in my "to sell" pile.Quote:

I diddled around a bit with Tales of Destiny and Wizardry. Realized I had a long, long way to go with ToD, so that ones going back on the shelf for a bit. I may have to replay it completely, since I remember so little about the plot. Wizardry refused to run on my PS2, sparking my annoyed thread, and the $200 purchase of a new PS2 :/
And currently of course, Metroid Prime consumes my being utterly. I suspect I won't be playing anything but Prime and Fusion for the next week or so, the rest of the stack will have to wait ;)
Gran Turismo 3 is kicking my ass. It's frustrating as hell - I've been playing it for almost four months, and after more than 200 races all I've accomplished is clearing out easy and normal in arcade mode, and (almost) clearing beginner in simulation mode. 33 freaking percent, and the races are starting to get really hard - as in, do them 4-5 times to win hard. It may well take me until 2006 to win this.
Other than that, I've just been playing Silent Hill 2 again for other endings - I'm about 9 hours in, almost done the hotel.

I can't believe you're actually trying to get 100% in GT3... I basically played that until I'd had my fill (which wasn't all that long really), then shelved it for good.
One of my friends is a total car gearhead maniac, and even he didn't tackle it completely (granted, he played GT2 for YEARS, so that's probably why).
Yeah, well, I decided I'd get through it before I really knew what I was getting myself into, heh. I like the game; I find it kind of addictive - I can play for 3 hours straight and not even notice. But it's gotten to the point where I have to do all these car-specific races, meaning I have to spend 45 minutes going 'round super speedway crashing into walls with the Viper to raise cash. And don't even try just buying the car - they all have to be suped to the tune of 50 000 credits to have a chance in hell.
What's really driving me nuts is struggling through these races with cars I hate - the Altezza/IS 300 races, for instance. But I know that if I ever do finish it, it'll probably take 2-300 hours, but it'll feel pretty awesome.

Still playing Final Fantasy V. I'm on the last world, rounding up the Lithtographs and completing a side-quest here and there. In Mega Man 7, I'm stuck on Dr. Wily. His final form (god, I hope it's the final form) is a major pain in the ass. So close to crossing this one off, I am.
I've also picked up Dragon Warrior III on GBC and I'm doing some monster medal hunting and level-building. Last night, I beat Divinegon for the first time and, thanks to a party of one Wyvern and 6 Metal Babbles whom I confused (along with my own party) with the Chance spell so the Wyvern destroyed all the Babbles with its fire breath and left only one of my characters alive *inhales*, managed to get the largest amount of EXP I've ever seen in a DQ/DW game... 242,980. :p

I was sitting there, playing GT3, and I finally snapped after realising how many times I'd have to do all those 10-race series to get them right, did some quick math and calculated that it would take me another 12-18 months to get throught the game at my current pace. Then I looked at VF4 on the "time out" shelf (thanks for the term, Lhadatt) and thought to myself, :why am I going to torture myself playing these games when I could just rade them in and get Metroid Prime?" So I did.
My list of games to beat is now:

My goal is to get through all of them except Dynasty Tactics by christmas. That should be achievable; or at the very least, I'll be close.
Only two, actually. As I mentioned, the reason I got so much EXP is because my only character alive was my Fighter, and she was at level 48. At that point, levelling up requires about 130k of EXP. I am curious of what level a Lv 1 character would end up being if he/she somehow managed to destroy a party of 6 Metabbles. My guess is 30.Quote:

I ploughed my way through Prime and (especially) Fusion, working on HoD now, but neither Metroid was on my pile of shame, just games I really wanted to play :) I pulled DW7 out the other day and played a bit, it's still alright. Trying to decide if I want to tackle that, or something a bit lighter...
I've never played either of the SuFami DQs, so they couldn't really spoil anything for me. I'm at 55 hours in DW7, so I think it's certainly achievable to get it done in the next few weeks. I'm kind of cheating, though - I picked up the strategy guide, but it's increased my enjoyment of the game fivefold. I finally realized that what I hated about it (other than the endless sprite and music recycling) was the wandering around that massive world with no freakin' clue what to do.Quote:

For instance, *minor spoilers* when you're told that "when the stone meets the sky, the hero will return". I mean, you're just supposed to know that the stone is the one your uncle - a totally insignificant character in a location you have no real reason to return to - mentioned in passing at the very beginning of the game, 52 hours ago!? Come on, that's just brutal.
Or how you're supposed to figure out that to cross the Nila, you have to go into the future and get the dinosaur skull you saw 20 hours ago in an unrelated location, bring it back in time and throw it into the river, where it comes back to life? How the hell does that make sense? I think it's a bit much to expect you to go around and talk to every single character in the game until something happens every time you're stuck. But now that I have something to prod me along at those times, I can get into the flow of the thing and dig the 8-bit vibe they're going for. Heck, even the levelling up isn't so bad any more.
But I don't really feel compelled to master every class for every character or anything, just master the advanced classes. The monster classes don't look like anything too exciting either. I'll probably just max out one advanced class for each character, do the major subquests, finish the game and call it a day.
I beat RE0 yesterday, I'm pretty happy, now I can move onto Metroid Prime/Fusion! :)

Just finished Castlevania HoD. It was ok I suppose, but I wasn't really blown away. I enjoyed SoTN more, so it didn't really trump that, and I enjoyed CoM more for its difficulty level - you actually had to use some skill to beat the enemies, here you just sort of ploughed your way through, particularly with the various item magic available (Wind/Cross was really abusive). I suppose there's Boss Rush and the other secret goodies though. Permit me to be grouchy for a moment that this game is bigger than Fusion by quite a large amount :P Then again, this has a lot of the SoTN rpg stuff, Fusion was much more straightforward.
Incidently, the Castlevania plotlines need a freaking kick in the ass. There's something to be said for saving the princess in the castle and so on, but come on, they need something new for Castlevania. Remember Bloodlines? How about a mix of Simon's Quest, SotN, and Bloodlines multiple castle/town/outdoor exploration? How cool would traveling the countryside in a SoTN alike Castlevania be?
I'm treading water with my pile of shame thanks to these games though. Prime/Fusion/HoD isn't getting me any closer to finishing off the old games on my list :/ Ah well, I'll get to em sooner or later I guess.

I just finished Ratchet & Clank 1 time through. I'm going to come back to it eventually to get all the gold bolts/weapons, but at some point 6 months from now when I can't remember how horrible the last boss is. :lol:

I'm still stagnating on my backlog, as I keep buying new games. At least I'm finishing them :P Rygar was my latest, though I felt a bit gipped. Muddling around a little bit with some older stuff. A little DW7, a little Valkyrie Profile, and a little Arc the Lad.
Thanksgiving produced a new victory for me: finally wrapped up Banjo-Kazooie. 98/100 puzzle pieces, 881/900 notes... satisfactory.
Only took 4 years!

Dragon Warrior VII - 76 hours and counting. Through sheer willpower alone, this is all I'm playing right now, because I know if I stop I'm toast. But the end is in sight...at least, the end of the first disc. But I've got to plow through this and Suikoden II before my shiny new copy of Contra: Shattered Soldier arrives :D and dooms me.
Haha, good luck to you. I'm contemplating diving into it, been fooling around a little bit with my save game which is, as yet, still early on. Much like the longer strategy rpgs, I know if I get into and stop, I'll stop for a long, long time.
I'll be impressed if you finish it. But if you do, you'll possibly be in reach of actually clearing out your pile completely :)

Been playing Arc the Lad 1, think I'm about 40-50% through it, but it is godawfully boring. Absolutely nothing interesting about it. Must... finish... *grind grind grind* Wonder if the second has anything appealing about it.
Being a hunter in Arc 2 is kind of fun, and I've enjoyed the game over all. It is a much bigger game. I also enjoyed the feel of Arc 1, so you may not care for it as much as I have.
By the way, do not buy the Arc guide. It seems to be well done in the "guide" department at least, yet the guy that wrote it is not funny at all and you have to deal with his humor throughout, on every damn page.
Well, I realized I'm quite a bit farther than I thought I was, so I'll probably just clear out the last bit of the game and move on to Arc 2. Hopefully that will prove to be more entertaining, or I'm dropping the whole lot off my pile and not bothering with them any more ;)

I didn't make any headway :( I actually managed to get stuck in Arc, supposedly one of the easiest strategy rpgs ever. I didn't level up enough, so I've gotta go do that for an hour or so before I can finish it.
I also managed to get sick again. I think this thread may actually be bad for my health ;)
I just axed Mega Man 8! I have no idea why I didn't list the game originally, since I had never beaten it. It would be cool if I got a point for it, but I'd understand if not since it wasn't in my original list. I also added two more games to the list that should also have been there:
- Radiant Silvergun. I'm forever trying to master this masterpiece. ;) My high score is like 4.6 Mil, Saturn Mode, Stage 2C, I think.
- Mega Man X4. Just like MM8, I've owned it for a long time, and have played it a bunch, but I've never beaten it.

Just wanted to say this is a cool thread.
I finally finished the first disc of Dragon Warrior VII at 88 hours and 17 minutes (!). At least 10 hours of that has been pure levelling up/maxing out classes, but it was totally necessary for the boss at the end. Other than that, I hardly played anything this week. With luck I should have the Demon Lord's head on a post by next weekend.
Nice. Any idea how long the second disc is? I STILL haven't reached the class change stuff, but I'm assuming I'm getting pretty close (unlocked a bunch of the surrounding islands).
The second disc is pretty short, especially compared to the first one. It's pretty much just lots of side-quests and stuff, like the Immigrant Town. You can do some reeeeeeeally neat things with that, but I won't give anything away here.
Oh, and Strider, I hope you've been collecting the ? Shards, for a very nice bonus awaits you... and a boss who will slap you around like a little bitch unless you do some insane levelling-up.
Victrix: The class change part is around 25 hours in. The second disc should only be around 10-15 hours (I hope), although you could basically play this game for 200 hours before you'd accomplished everything.
Omega: I've been collecting all the ?shards I can find, but I only seem to have about 2 or 3 left after the ressurrection plate and the Demon Lord's castle. I've also been collecting all the tiny medals I can grab, but I've only found about 80 or so. And then there's the monster park...I've got about 6-7 different environments, but only about 12-15 monsters. As for the immigrant town, I'm doing what I can, but I get the impression there's alot more people to find. Plenty of things still aren't built yet.
And no, there's little chance I'm going to get all the animations for the monster book, master every class for every character, find all the monster hearts/classes, or win all the casino prizes. Hopefully I'll be able to win all three world rankings, though. One question, though - when Dr. Azmov loses his Lore hat, I have no idea where to look for it. Any hints?
Yes, you have a TON of stuff to do before you can truly consider the game "finished", if you will. The immigrant town will take countless hours of your time, and I never won anything good at the Casino (I spent many hours there as well). You might want to consult a strategy guide or FAQ for the immigrant town, unless you want to endure lots of likely frustration.
As for dude's Lore Hat, check the Intelligence ranking board in Litroud. You should notice a familiar name in the top spot. If you're still stumped, let me know. :)
EDIT: I'd just like to mention that if DW7 was in nice, 32-bit 2D, it would be my favorite RPG ever, end of story.

As for the update...Well, I've been playing Tales of Destiny as much as I can stomach lately, but I've finished nothing.
I do, the specific place I'm talking about is the post-fire guardian battle with only Arc and Kukuru. The first time I got there, they both died before I even had a turn. Not particularly fun. The second time, they died after I had one turn :P Basically, I have to go level up, which I did for awhile (my second attempt) but it still wasn't enough. And since I'm sick and leveling in Arc is godawfully boring (particularly Kukuru), I still haven't beaten it ;)
I might as well tell ya since you're trying to put a big dent in this game by year's end. "Epong" should be at the top of the Intelligence rankings, dunno if you remember or not, but he's one of the Bandits from the lair south of Dharma. He's got the hat.Quote:

Score two more for me! I axed both Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Final Fantasy V today (er... yesterday).
In FFV, I leveled up, and managed to beat Omega. I was feeling confident, so I went and picked a fight with Shinryu. He slapped me around, called me a little bitch, and had his way with me. I don't have the patience with this game to level up some more and steal the Dragon Lances I need to beat him, so I'm calling this one done. I did beat X-Death and see the ending, though.
Same with Zelda... I beat Onyx and got my password for Ages, but I'm missing two heart pieces (the randomly-found ones) and my ring collection could be better, but I think that's enough for now.

Man, I just realized how close I am to the end, and my party consists of a Ranger (I can become a Hero once he's mastered that), a Godhand, a Mage (needs to do that, then Cleric, then Sage to become a Summoner) and a Sage, who will most likely never become an Advanced class (thanks, Maribel!). I have a ton of levelling up to do, or I have a feeling the last boss is going to cream me. The downside is that fighting Madbooks totally sucks, becuase they kick my ass with that annoying SleepAll spell.
Updated. I'm distracted from my stack at the moment by a Legend of Mana project. If it pans out, I'll make a more extensive post about it later. Need to con Masaka into doing some coding for me first :D

I had a nice gaming mini-marathon yesterday. Note: from now on, just like my gametracker list, I'm putting the games I actually finish in bold.
First, I knocked off Ys Book I-II. This took awhile since I hadn't played it in so long and some areas (like Solomon's Shrine and the Canals) are really tough to navigate.
Next, I blazed through Mega Man X. It's not on my pile because I've owned it for a long time, and I pretty much know it inside-out and have beaten it lots of times. X2 is next. I'm pretty excited, 'cause I've never played it before.
Then, I hooked up the NES and played Dragon Warrior IV until 3 in the morning. I just completed the Gardenbur quest, if that's any indication where I am in the game. I hadn't played this since last spring, when I bought Radiant Silvergun. God, I wish I could control my character manually!
