Weekend update, but no progress for me. I'm working on a project, so I'll be busy for the next couple of weeks.
Well, i got and finished Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, and I finished Gradius Galaxies. Beat GG so damn fast I wonder why I even bothered putting it off so long. What does that make now, ummmm:
Hall of Fame - 16
Pile of Shame - 99
Just grabbed myself a copy of Klonoa(PSX).
Pile: 53
ok I'm in... maybe this will get me through some of th games I practicly refuse to finish... htouh there are not many of them...
Game Cube:
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil
Mario Sunshine
The Legend of Zelda: Ocorina of Time
PS2:
Harvest Moon Save the Homeland
Skygunner
Mobile Light Force 2
Rez
DC:
Shenmue
Skies of Arcadia (gotta get it back though)
SNES:
Final Fatasy 3/6
so that makes 11 games right now that I need to get through, and more are just gonna come, but I have a good ability to play just as fast as I buy... we'll just have to see what happens.
Finished ZOE2 a couple days ago.
Now I'll either finish Xenosaga or start Kingdom Hearts. Pile=4
Finished Ys III for TGCD. Amazing, amazing soundtrack. Goes right up there with FFIV and FFTactics as my all-time favorites.
Fame - 22

I've lost track of what I have beaten

Dorameon
Valkrie no denetsu
Aoi Blink

I actually liked it better than either of those (although FFIV gets full marks). Definitely an all-time classic.Quote:

I'm down to about 6 games in my pile. I'm not buying anything else until they're done. But I'll be playing PSO for the next couple of weeks until the two free months are up.
Breath of Fire 3: 100+ hours.
That is the only one I want to really get back into.
Xenosaga is dead!
Now I'll get to Kingdom Hearts. Pile=3
I must add Ratchet and Clank but remove Rez, Skygunner and Mobile Light Force 2...
Fame = 3
Shame = 9
I'm back, I'll get this updated shortly. Work tends to consume my soul, so I don't have the energy needed to keep up during project, but that's done for now.
I've spent a bit of time mulling over some ideas for a revamp of the Warpact, I've got to think about it a bit more, but don't be surprised if this thread vanishes or gets locked at some point.
This has been a very enjoyable thread to maintain, but there's a few problems with it, so I'll try to address those in version 2 ;)
And in the meantime: No progress for me, though I did push a few new high scores in various shooters :D
Other than the shmups that I wil never beat (because I never do), the legitimate games (meaning not the ones that I have owned for years) on the pile are
Maximo (62% mastery)
Ninja Assault (all modes unfinished)
Contra SS (have only beaten level 1)
The Mark of Kri (2 levels 100%)
But more games go on before the older ones leave...;p
PLEASE don't delete this thread when it comes time to post version 2. This thread is the only source of documentation for archives of my pile progress, and I'd like it to be around at least until I search through here and pull the information myself.Quote:

For this week, I finished Final Fantasy IV.
Fame - 23
Shame - 127
I'll get someone to lock it. Ideally, I'd archive it somehow (I back up the list regularly), but I'm not sure how feasible that'd be (short of a lot of annoying gruntwork).
I've been reading this thread for a while now and I haven't seen a few details I've been looking for, either 'cause I'm too damn tired or I didn't reach them. Oh well.
To "complete" a shmup, is that one crediting the thing? Three crediting it or better? I'm assuming no one is credit feeding their way through shmups, Metal Slug, etc... well I guess R-Type could be multi-credited, due to the fact continues are limited. So is that the criteria then?
I don't know... can anyone help out here?
Added to the pile of shame, bt have yet to beat anything.

I think this one level made me more frustrated than any other level in any other game I have ever played. I remember my then-gf was dozing on the bed next to me when I was trying to complete it. I started frothing and screaming and cursing with such ferocity and venom that she later admitted she was scared (I don't normally swear in my day to day life, or at least I didn't back then). I was squeezing the controller until it makes that crackling sound.
And then you don't even get anything for completing the game 100%! (except that silly star on the title screen).
Personally, I don't have any shmups on my list, since I don't really ever consider them completed. If I did, I'd say one credit only, but as the first post mentioned, just use your own conscience as your guide. If you're done with it, either remove it from your pile, or mark it completed, depending on how much you played it.Quote:

Update! I added a new "clear category" for my pile: If a game is underlined, it means it's gone, but not because I played it to satisfaction, but because it sucks, I sold it, or whatever. I won't give myself clear credit for these, but at least they'll be axed from the pile.
Progress last week:
Guerrilla War
Dragon Warrior III GBC
Dragon Warrior VII
Fame - 25
Shame - 124
I took care of Maximo yesterday...dunno what took me so long to play it, but damn it if it isn't one bad-ass game. Credits sequence brought a smile to my face, had me humming along. Can't wait for the sequel now.
I finished Snatcher, but I don't even think it was in my pile, so it stays the same. I'm playing Rune right now, and at the rate I'm going, I might finish it by Wednesday or Thursday.
Guess I'll get in on this. Typing them out, I didn't realize I had this many games I want to finish. Some might fall off the list when I admit I just don't like them (Legend of Oasis, Shantae, Conker [this game is gay; Rare supposedly finally goes "adult" and ironically ends up being more childish than ever before], couple more). Many I haven't even started (Gitaroo, KFIV, Suikoden III), some are on their way in the mail as we speak (Shadow/Dual Hearts, Tiny Tank, Legaia), and one or two I'm deliberately not finishing to prolong the greatness (Wind Waker).
Okay, here's the list.

Dark Cloud
Pirates
Everblue 2

Baldur's Gate
Maximo
Herdy Gerdy

Yup, that's all the games in my Genesis pile. They won't be touched until I get the RGB station up-and-running, which is currently on hold pending my posession of a working monitor. Sucks.
Polished off a couple 'Legend of' games tonight: Legaia and Oasis. Got Tales of Destiny in the mail though. x_x

Yep, I'm liking ToD more and more every time I play it. The battle system is growing on me -- and I guess it better considering how much time I'll be spending in its clutches. But no matter how much I end up liking Linear Motion Battle, there's no excuse for there to be this many battles. Even if the random battles in this game were having sex with me, I wouldn't want it to happen this often. I suppose I'll soon be taking your (I think it was yours) advice in the other thread and start buying and using those bottles that keep monsters at bay.Quote:

Good luck. ToD just keeps going, and going, and going, and *going*. Supposedly they stripped out a lot of story and an extra character (?!), which might have helped cut up the tedium a bit in some parts. You'll fight as many random combats as some of the scary early pc 'rpg' games (Bards Tale et al).
On the other hand, if you can get a friend to play with you, and get the spoony bard in your party, it suddenly becomes much more entertaining.
I was going to wait until I finished Xenogears before posting my progress, but I don't like playing it, so that ain't happening anytime soon. I finished Rune and Blood Omen 2, but the latter wasn't in my pile of shame. Next, aside from replaying Suikoden 2, I'm working on Grandia. So my progress:
Hall of Fame - 17
Pile of Shame - 98
Tales of Destiny is done. Phew, I hate the Tower of Druaga.
Hall:12
Pile: 53
Compass: I can't remember if you said you picked up ToD II/Eternia as well... but if you did, prepare to be a bit disappointed. I honestly can't believe both Ferricide and Frog picked it over Destiny. It has a cliche story, one of the worst offenders I've ever seen actually, and the gameplay isn't as huge an improvement as you'd think, though it is harder.
Nope, haven't picked it up yet but I definitely intended to (and still do). Maybe you should've given yourself a break between Destiny and Eternia especially if Destiny was a bit of a chore to complete. I know I won't be playin' 'em back to back. Anyway, I just hope the dialog is a little more exciting and the world-map is prettier. I've even gotten used to the encounter rate (sorta). If it has those improvements I'm good to go. I've slogged through many a mediocre game so I'll be alright here, I think. Sorry to hear yer so disappointed so far but maybe you'll like it more by the end? Frog'll prolly be by shortly to give the game a good defending (and you a little pep-talk!). ;)Quote:

Fame = 3 + 2 = 5!
Up with EGG, Megaman Legends 1&2, Tron Bonne.
Shame = 45 - 2 + 4 = 47.
[edit]: okay, fuck conker, it sucks. i'm also taking off some PC games that I can't really finish till I get a new computer and who knows when that will be: Commandos, BG2, Icewind Dale, Nox. Torment I will finish this week so help me god.
Shame = 47 - 5 = 42.
- At the last boss in Return to Castle Wolfenstein (Xbox)
Going to try to finally finish Panzer Dragoon Orta tongiht.
Maybe you'll figure out that last boss faster than I did :(
I'm not smart apparently, took me a bunch of tries to get it.
He kicks my ass all over the room. :(
Any one beat him yet?
I'll give you a hint since I found it so damn annoying.
Spoiler Level 1
Hold a lock and release it
Spoiler Level up
Hold your lock on him before you get pelted by purple rays of doom, release to destroy them all, repeat until he stops. You can tell when to release by the shriek he makes prior to firing
Took me too long to figure that out :/
I beat Metroid Fusion two weeks ago. It was just sitting around begging to be played, and I finally did it, thanks to the GBA Player.
Currently I'm playing through Zelda: Wind Waker.
Finished Destiny II/Eternia. Great battle system, but man was the story a steaming pile.

Vic: You ever going to update the first page? I don't think it's been touched for centuries. : (Kirby goes here. Where the hell did he go?) :
PS2 and Gamecube games are done with. I don't think I even remember what my finished game total is. I wasn't going to buy anything else until I was done everything, but I cracked on Morrowind.
Current list:
Halo on heroic and legendary
Morrowind
Jet Set Radio Future
I'm in the home stretch!
I've sold/beaten alot of my old stuff so here's my current pile
Battle Garrega
Guwange
Baldurs Gate 2
KOTOR
Initial D \Special Stage
Virtual On Marz
ICO
Metal Slug 3
Seiken Denetsu 3
ICO won't take you very long, xS. You can beat it in 3 days, and that's pretty conservative.
Finished Torment FINALLY! started that sucker back in '99. no good excuse for not completing it sooner either as it's one of the GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME. but then, you already knew that.
My apologies for the lack of list updates, you can be sure I'm still checking the thread often. I haven't updated for a few reasons - one was that I want to start the second (cleaner) version of the Warpact, with slightly different 'rules', and the other is that I've had about zero interest in video gaming for the last few months, given the lack of worthwhile releases. Combined with the fact that I knocked off all the stuff from my pile of shame that I really wanted to take out, I haven't had a lot of motivation to continue with the regular updates.
I should probably do so anyway for now, until I get the second version up and running.
Incidently, compliments to those of you who have been participating. This thread has been running for about a year now, and I've found it to be an enjoyable staple (at times, its the only reason I visit, other than to check the high score board or to watch Strider or Mode bash on someone).
I just started playing Fallout 2. And I'll probably go through Valkyrie Profile again.
Since my last post, I've finished these games:
MoH:Frontline
Castlevania:HoD
Sonic Adventure 2
Star Wars:KOTOR
They weren't on my list though.
Current pile:
Dungeon Siege (haven't started)
Eternal Darkness (5th chapter)
Resident Evil Zero (about 20 minutes in)
Rayearth has fallen, in all its mighty eight-hour glory.
Fame: 5 + 2(rayearth, torment) = 7.

I wonder what you guys define as completing a game...do you go for 100% completion? Or do you say that it's over once you see the outro?
Or rankings...need S ranks, or don't care?
Depends completely on your judgement. I suppose you could beat one level and go 'whoo, I win!', and hey, if that gives you satisfaction, more power to you.
Everyone has a different opinion about what finished means...
Depends, if the game is story based, or has a main single player mode or whatever (like story mode, championship mode, campaign, etc), I say it's finished whenever I beat that mode and see the ending/credits. That's not to say I'll stop playing it, like I finished WarCraft 3 long ago, for example, and I still play it all the time online. If it's a game that has no technical 'finish', like a MMORPG or sports game, I just don't count those games and never add them to either list (but if it's a game like Phantasy Star Online or Diablo, that has an ending and a "story", so I count it).Quote:

I beat Steel Empire for Genesis last night. Pretty good considering it's a Flying Edge game (guess what my first thought was upon seeing that?). The graphics aren't that bad and it plays well although the weapons system is almost nonexisitant. Wasn't too hard either.
Mars matrix also fell before my power! I finally beat this sucker (I used free play. Sue me). I'll keep going back to it, to unlock the gallery and ship colors and stuff. All those unlockables are what make it my favorite DC shmup.
Bah, I hope the spirit of this beast is not dead. Anyways, for a while I have seen this in Victrix sig, so I thought that I might as well join up. I don't really buy more games than I will play, but mostly I seem to lately just be playing shmups (arcade pcb's) so I want to make sure I have not forgotten anything. Well here we go.
Xbox:
Halo (Heroic Mode)
Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
Panzer Dragoon Orta (100%)
JSRF
Rally Sport Challenge (open all tracks at least)
PS2:
Virtua Fighter 4: Evo (Quest mode)
Contra SS
Gradius 3&4 (I did not want to put shmups up here, but I have not really spent more than an hour on this game)
Amplitude (Brutal)
RE: Code Veronica *
Space Channel 5 Part 1 & 2 (Both loops)
GC:
Sonic Mega Collection (Beat all games at least once, this involves the stupid opening up all the Knuckles versions)
Viewtiful Joe (Adult Mode)
Metroid Prime
Super Mario Sunshine
DC:
Shadow Man *
Sonic Adventure 2
PS1:
Castlevania: SotN
Metal Gear Solid
MM X5 (I forgot that I bought this over a year ago)
FF:Tactics**
Chrono Cross**
Dragon Warrior 7**
Legent of Dragoon**
[Silent Hill]
GBA:
Wario Ware (100% open)
* = I might not want to actually play these through. For RE I hate all RE game's control schemes and forget that every time I pick it up. For Shadow Man I lost about 25 hours of play in a save state and never picked it back up.
** = I stopped playing/buying RPGs a while ago. DW7 has about 50 hrs in it, I was on the 3rd Disc somewhere for Lod, and I was at the level after the Windmill battle in FF:T (still early). I am not sure I want to finish these either, but I bought them...
[...] = I want it to be there, I bought it, but just waiting. I use to have it, don't know what happen it it.
About the Silent hill games; I have NEVER played one, but I have watched my wife beat every one of them. Being that I was just viewing (and honestly paid the least attention to the first) I would like to go and get a better grasp of the story line, as my wife is finishing up the 3rd one right now.
That totals me up there at 26. I am currently working on Sonic Heroes and Wario ware (SH is not on the list for being too new.)
Nope, not dead, though you should check my history for the 'other' Warpact thread ;)
Come to think of it, I should probably update my sig with that info...
To sum up, we're launching Warpact.com soon

Three games in one night! Knocked off Syberia, Rygar, and Grim Fandango. And Fatal Frame was a few days ago.
Fame: 22 + 4 = 26
Shame: i don't know, it's still huge.
Well, somehow I managed to forget that I had Ico (wife misplaced it in the DVD rack) so I need to add that to my list. That has to be like one of the first 5 PS2 games I had and never finished it (the wife did).
I finished Silent Hill 1 (Bad + and Good+ endings, the 2 I had not seen) ths weekend. I started SH2 last night, and it already almost made me drop the controller  .
I also finished Wario Ware with 100%. Pyoro 1 and 2 are quite excellent and worth the time. I can see this game still getting alot of play, but only time will tell.
I am definatly going to take DWVII off my list. I had some 45 hours on my save. I went back to it after over a year in the mean time and ... I was just lost. I don't feel like replaying all that knowing how long the total of the game is so... it is gone. That drops my list to:
Pile of Shame: 28
Hall of Fame: +2
I'm doing the Silent Hill endings, too! And I just bought 2 so it's all ready for me. Coolness.
I'm not going to start listing my PoS until the website's up... it's too big. It's just too big.
I have to finish KOTOR pretty soon, im on that unknown planet now, still a long way to go.
Wany to know a seceret on how to save the most time but get all the endings?Quote:

This will save you the most time. After you go through it once you should be able to shave significant time off of your complete time. It took me 8 hours to get through the game once. Then it took me only about 4 hours to get all the other endings. It is kind of neat to do it all in one sitting. I can also go back and still get the UFO ending.
For SH2 I got the Walk away end I guess the first time I played, now I am going back for the Rebirth and hopefully Dog endings... don't know what they are aside from their title :)
Also my wife beat SH3 last night, so when I get done with 2 I can move on to 3 right away |-)
Wait... does the memory card keep track of the game endings and such, or can I just load up old games and see them myself? I kind of want to go through again and get the chainsaw and all that... and I was under the impression that you have to play through a second time to get the UFO ending.
As far as keeping saves go, I have a DexDrive. Every PS game I play gets a memory card devoted to it. When it's full, I stick them in a folder and keep going with the fresh card, so I have saves at pretty much every save point ;)

I kind of want to go through again and get the chainsaw and all that... and I was under the impression that you have to play through a second time to get the UFO ending.[quote]
Yea they keep track, but if your asking about loading it up on like ePSXe or somethign, then no you cannot do that (some of the ending is given in cut scenes). What I was saying with the save points, is that by doing that then you can ust load it up at those points because that is were the endings branch from and it will save you the most time (don't have to go throught the whole game again). For the UFO ending...
(I only spoiler this so that if you want to experiment and find out on your own ...)
You need to perform the Good+ ending, so it may take you 4 times beating the game. You also need the good+ ending to get the Katana (you can tell if you earned the items if they are floating and spinning behind your report card screen).
Anyways, that is why I said that I still have to go though and get the UFO ending (it is the only ending that you cannot get on the first run through).
Dex Drives sound cool. Too bad that I missed getting one when I would have used it the most (PS1 games).
Well, if it keeps track in your save game files, and endings unlock special items, looks like I'm going through it 4-5 times, then :p No big, it's pretty short once you know where to go.
You can probably still get a DexDrive for $5.00 or less. We had one at EB until a few months ago. I'll keep an eye out, if you want.
Well, it keeps track, but no you don't need to get anything special to..Quote:

* = Technically you have to beat the game once (any ending) and then you can get the gas can for either the chainsaw or the rock drill, you have to choose. If you go for a 3rd run you can get the other.
But then again, if you have the time and the patience, go for all the endings. Not that much changes over the different runs. I just no longer have the patience/time for all that.
If you could keep an eye open for a cheap Dex Drive for me (I only have one or 2 working PS1 memory cards left...) that would be awesome.
Add one to my pile of fame with KOTOR tonight. I'll have my pile of fame and shame soon, theyres just too much.
a gba weekend as i polished off two dual-namesake games: mega man & bass and mario & luigi. and goddamn, mega man was hard. i know i've gotten soft in my old age but still. i absolutely hate that you have to basically exploit the auto-save feature or else trek through those last King levels and all fifteen (yes, fifteen!) bosses if you lose all your lives to Wily at the end. great game except for that.
mario & luigi was decent but nowhere near as good as the previous two mario rpgs. pretty weak ending too which is disappointing considering the first one had one of the best endings ever.
now to finish wario ware and boktai...
You bumped the wrong thread. :)
oh.
rofl, should probably get a mod to lock this one
