I finally broke down and got a PS2 today(I had to have Wipeout), but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to power it down, the manual isn't enough help. Do I leave it on standby always, or do I turn the main power off every time I stop playing? Help would be appreciated. By the way, Wipeout does indeed rock.

I always leave mine on stand by.
The way I see it is that Sony originally intended the PS2 to be the base of your home entertainment center (remember the hype?). And it stands to reason that they would have anticipated people putting their PS2s inside, on a shelf, in some sort of an entertainment/home theatre system.
If this were the case, and they originally intended for people to completely power off their consoles, they would've put the power switch on the front of the console, and not the back, because having to stick your hand inside the shelf of an entertainment center to reach around the back just isn't practical.
I just put in my scratched up 1995 copy of Toshinden. Smoke starts coming out and the power goes off - works every time, and I don't even have to push the switch.

Sometimes I like to think of myself as the One-Man Dreamcast Revenge Posse. It does have some nifty games, though.

I totally forgot about GTA3. I've been wanting that for a while. Yep, that suckers mine. The games that I bought the system for though are Maximo, Contra, Rygar, and Shinobi, as well as Wipeout. I just couldn't resist.
