Need some PSX import advice...

I'm getting a modded PSOne with Donpachi next week when payday comes (thanks PaCrappa!) and am curious about PSX imports. There are so many I've yet to play that I'm not sure where to even begin!

Here's what I definitely want:

- Gunner's Heaven
- Hermie Hopperhead
- Panzer Bandit
- Parodius

Here's what I'm looking at:

- Adventure of Puppet Princess
- Assault Suits Valken 2
- Blade Arts
- Brigandine
- Cowboy Bebop
- Ganbare Goemon Daikaiten!
- Gatchaman
- Vib Ribbon

These just looked interesting but I have no idea what they're like. I'm mostly interested in platformers, RPGs, action games, and shmups (definitely shmups!).

Suggestions?

What about Vib Ribbon? Is it good?

I haven't played my PS1 imports as much as I would like because my PS1 skips way too much but I recommend these games:

Kyuiin - Horizontal cutesy shooter with kids riding on flying vacuum cleaners.

The Game Tengoku/Paradise 2 - Vertical shooter filled with Japanese weirdness.

Crime Crackers - First generation PS game. It's an old-school FPS with a Japanese flavour.

Pepsiman - On-rails run 'n jump. Blatant advertising but surprisingly fun.

Radikal Bikers - I only briefly played it but it seemed like a worthy translation of the arcade game. It's a Euro-import.

Gunners Heaven was okay from what I remember. Just don't expect Contra or Gunstar.

GRADIUS GAIDEN!!!!

I'm assuming you dig Gradius since you are looking for Parodius. This is the best Gradius game bar none! It simply destroys III & IV.

Your first 4 choices are good ones. Here's my .02 and suggestions for you to consider:

- Adventure of Puppet Princess (never played)
- Assault Suits Valken 2 (this is NOT a sequel to Cybernator. It's a strategy game and disappointing at that)
- Blade Arts (never played)
- Brigandine (never played)
- Cowboy Bebop (Utter crap. It's butt ugly and horrible in EVERY respect. A true shame from Japan, considering the great anime)
- Ganbare Goemon Daikaiten! (Great platformer)
- Gatchaman (Simple shooter that is super easy but if your a fan of Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets then I'd suggest it. It's cheap enough at $20)
- Vib Ribbon (Truly kooky and awesome with yet the most simplistic of graphics you're likely to see on the PS)

Additions to consider:

- Harmful Park (anyone that thinks the PS can't do 2D has NOT seen or played this game. It's awesome in every sense of the word. This gets my highest recommendation)
- Slap Happy Rhythm Busters (Great 3D fighter that uses cell shading on the PS. Truly unique and fabulous graphics)
- Geppy-X (4 disc horizontal shooter that set up like a TV series, including commercials. Very cool idea.)
- Captain Commando (the only arcade perfect port of this game)
- Time Bokan Series (great cartoony, vertical shooters involving different vehicles/characters to control)
- Gekisha Boy (great port of the PCE game, and probably cheaper)

I can suggest some others but my minds drawing a blank right now. I can share some more once I get home and look through my stuff.

thanks for starting this melf. im also expecting a modded psone anyday now. the lunar remakes have been BEGGING for me to play thru them for the 100000000th time and i still need to get the Arc Collection and DW7.

I'd say 1) Growlanser and 2) Beatmania games
