Should 989 sports just hang it up?

I was at Best Buy yesterday, and saw NFL Gameday 2003, and NCAA Gamebreaker for $40 each. I looked at the screen shots on the back of the Gameday box, and the player models looked decent enough, but there were some square endges on some of the player models.


What happened to the once best game of football, made by 989 sports. They did a great job with the early versions of gameday on the PSX, but now they are nothing but a floormat to the other sports developers. Someone needs to tell them to either get out of the game, or get with the program. Are these latest offerings by 989 sports, any improvement upon last year's pile of shit?

Should they just hang it up? In a word... Yes. I've never bought a single one of their games because for the most part they're all ass.

I think that at the begining they were actually pretty good, and that they had a pretty good spot in the world of sports gaming. Nowadays, though, pretty much every other developer has passed them by in terms of, well, everything.

yeah, I was not even a fan of theirs back in their heyday a few years ago. Add to that I think they ruined the Coolboarders series.

989 as a whole should just hang it up.

I loved Cool Boarders 2. Did they do that one? If they did it's the only game I liked from them. Who even thinks, "Woo! New 989 game hits next week! I better preorder!"

They had good commercials if I remember correctly (which can be attributed to Sony's best marketing people, one of their strongest suits).

Nope, they took over that franchise with part 3. I think 2 was still done by Uep Systems or whatever their name was.

Cool Boarders 2 was developed by Idol Minds. Only the first was by Uep.

I believe 989 is still getting tons of cash from the Everquest servers, so they probably won't be closing their doors any time soon. I do have to agree that all of their sports games have gone down the drain. They seriously need to stop making sports games. Its sort of sad for me cause 989 studios is actually located five minutes away from my house and I used to know two people who work there...

989 needs to stop living in the shadow of EA. Even their slogan is a cheap knockoff to
"EA Sports: it's in the game".
