In honor of Tekki. What are your favorite games involving mechs? I haven't played that many, so I don't have much say on the matter.

In honor of Tekki. What are your favorite games involving mechs? I haven't played that many, so I don't have much say on the matter.
VOOT, VOOM, VO:OT, VO:OM, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram, Virtual On: Operation Moongate, Frame Gride, Ranger X
Virtual On: OT, Zone of the Enders, Gundam Battle Assault 2, Gundam Side Story, Cybernator, Metal Warriors, Bangai-o, Blast Corps and Armored Core to an extent.
That's all I remember for now, I ususally LOVE mech games and wish more of them in quality came out.
VOOT, Cybernator, Bangai-O, Tech Romancer, Cyberbots...
Bangai-O
VOOT
:)
w00t! VOOT love!
Bangai-O
Assault Suit Leynos
Assault Suit Valken
Assault Suit Leynos 2
Ranger X
Omega Boost
Armored Core
Armored Core: Project Phantasma
I noticed that most traditional shooters involving mechs tend to suck but everything else in just about every genre is fair game.
Armored Core until now has been the only mech game that ever held my interest. I have a feeling no less than 3 of the upcoming XB mech games will be decent though.
Cybernator, Ranger-X, and Terra Nova are my favorites.
I'll use the generic Super Robot Wars series, + deviants~
Sidearms.
What he said.Quote:

Sidearms, Frame Gride, and Target Earth/Assault Suit Leynos.
EDIT: Oops, almost forgot Front Mission 3.
Xenogears , front mission , target earth , cybernator.
I'm a big fan of Tech Romancer and ZoE (I have high hopes for the sequel), but I really want to find the time to put into VO:OT or the AC series. Sometime.
Xenogears, Mech Warrior, and Gun Metal is Oh, so sexy!
I was able to stick with the Mechwarrior series until the Ghost Bear expansion shown up... after that, I never had the proper PC to run any of it. Here is hoping that Tekki can finally make a console game of this type worth playing.
Since people are mentioning Kikaio can I mention Cyberbots?
Oh, and those SD G-Gundam games are pretty nifty too.
SD G-Gundam games?
Expound.
Tech Romancer, all of the VO games, Zone of the Enders, and soon... Robot Alchemic Drive :D
Front Mission III is probably my overall favorite.
Love me up some Mech Commander, Tech Romancer, and Armored Core though.
Armored Core = sucky controls. I've tried to like it, but just can't do it. That's why I haven't purchased Frame Gride just yet. I'm hung up on the controls.
AC's controls are clunky, but with practice I have no problems.
Maybe I just need more patience and practice.
But outside the world of AC, Gun Metal is freaking awesome! I can't praise the game enough! There isn't much in the way of customization, but there's action aplenty, the gameplay and graphics are top notch, you can transform for crying out loud (!!!!!), and it's only 40 clams! Go buy it! You won't regret it! (To those interested: Full review soon!)

Turn based Gundam strategy battles on square grids, sometimes multiple levels. 100s of units and machinery and upgrades and cutscenes and voices and etc. I ended up playing this vicariously since my two Gundam-freak friends needed me to help translate some of the J while playing the games.
There are two games that came out after this in this series: F and iF. I think iF has a handful of new things over F, so if you can find one of the titles in this series I really recommend F or iF, both seem to be much better than 0.
Cool! Thanks for the info! I think I'll be playing Super Robot Wars Alpha for a long time to come...but as soon as I'm finished, I'll be looking for these. :D
Oh! There's another one! Super Robot Wars Alpha!
Dude, I know what it offers but I personally feel this series SHITS on those Super Robot games. I've seen both, and I guess this might be from seeing the SD Gundam series first, but man... it just looked so stale.
If you find a cheap copy, nab it and grab it immediately. Chances are you'll like it and not look back.
Will do! Thanks again!
To date the only game you've recomended to me was Beatmania IIDX 6th style...so you have a flawless record! :D
I might as well seek this one out. Don't let me down! ;)
Mech games?
All versions of VOOT, everything but the Saturn version of VOOM, and probably all versions of Force.
Also, the Assault Suit Leynos games, and, uh... Federation vs. Zeon, I guess. That's all I can think of, right now.
mechwarrior 2 for pc.
i don't really like any of the other games in the series, but this one clicked for me. the entire presentation of the game is incredibly stylish, from the excellent music, to the cockpit voice and hud.
Forgot about these games:
Front Mission 3
Sidearms
Shogo
Ok, Lets see:
VOOT, Ranger-X, Cyberbots, Bangaioh, Zone of Enders, Front Mission 3, Vanguard Bandits, Tech Romancer, Xenogears, Omega Boost.
I don't think Bangai-O (or "oh") should count. It isn't a mech game. It has a mech in it...but it isn't a mech game.
Tech Romancer is permisable. Virtual On is permisable. Bangai-O isn't. It isn't a mech game.
Oh, come on. It has a mech in it. The rest of the mech games here are spread over tons of different genres, from fighting to turn-based strategy.Quote:

...So why not include a game like Bangai-O?
Because...it's primary focus isn't it's inclusion of a mech. Cyberbots, though a fighting game, focuses on the mech aspect. Same with Tech Romancer and Virtual On.
Gun Metal focuses on the mech, Mech Warrior, Front Mission 3, Xenogears' mechs are an integral part of the primary plotline in the story, but Bangai-O is just a shooter with a mech. It shouldn't count. It doesn't focus on the inclusion of a mech, therefore it isn't a "mech game."
Xenogears
Armored Core
Frame Gride
VOOT
Mechwarrior 2
Cyberbots
... yeah, that's it
I thought Gun Metal was pretty damn cool when I played the demo. It's a nice tease before Robotech and your closest thing to a Transformers game. Although as much as I hate to say it I would wait for it to hit 20-30 bucks.
I understand what you're saying Will. I wouldn't have a problem picking it up at 20-30 bones either, but I'm glad I got it at 40. It's a really cool mech game and I highly recomend it to anyone who would be even a little interested.
And while we're talking about mech games, can anyone offer any opinions about these ganmes?
Tenshi Doumei (The box art for this one is killer! I might buy it for the art alone. Excellently done! The box art that is. So...uh...is it a good game?)
J-Phoenix Burst Tactics or Kikou Heiden J-Phoenix
Run=Dim First
Any opinions or links or whatever would be greatly apreciated. :D
I believe the title of this thread is "Favorite mech games", not "Games which involve made-up physics designed to approximate the experience of piloting a mech," or "Games that focus on the inclusion of a mech." Consequently, Bangai-O, Sidearms, Cybernator, and all other mech shooters are fair game.
I haven't really played the Armored Core series at all, but Frame Gride controls pretty well. It supports analog control for one thing, something the AC series hasn't done until part 3.
I agree with the "I don't think Bangai-O (or "oh") should count." They could've easily of used a little space ship, or a flying monkey instead of a mech.
Anyway, I used to play Armored Core religiously when it was first released. Never did get into any of the sequels, though.
Well then, your definition of what a mech game is is much more liberal then my own.Quote:

Just because a game has a mech in it, doesn't make it a "mech game."
Go bother someone else.
You could just as easily do that with any of the games listed here to.Quote:

Imagine Armored Core with giant customizable chickens instead of mechs...
mmm, chicken...
I can't say much about those exept for J-Phoenix Captain, I haven't actually PLAYED it but the now defunct first issue of GameGO! magazine said it sucked ass and was a shoddy imitation of VOOT/Armored Core.Quote:

Ah! I must have skipped over that write-up. :p
Thanks.
GameGo! actually said VOOT and Armored Core are similar?Quote:
VOOT/Armored Core.
You're the one who chose to "bother" the participants in this thread by imposing a stricter definition of mech games, not me.Quote:

Chill.
I would like to make mention of Tech Romancer and the awesome Story Mode mimicking a mini anime show... or something like that.
The hand-drawn art and mech designs are likewise great.
Wise Duck and Bollon are two personal favorites.
I "imposed" nothing, sweet heart. All I said was that I didn't think Bangai-O should count. Then I was asked why and I explained myself.Quote:

Chill.
Though I could see how that could have been mistaken as my extending an iron hand to rope in these foolish cretians and bind their faulty definitions of what a "mech game" truely is.
You wanted to get offended, so you did. And the fact that you didn't actually read what was said helped in your misconceptions.
You chill.
Nope, just saying they thought J-Phoenix sucked compared to them although this is just taken from memory.Quote:

Man, I think you're taking this waaay to seriously.Quote:

Yes, I am.
When someone puts words in my mouth I didn't speak, and motives in my head that I don't subscribe to, I take it seriously.
Sleeveboy's the only one who had a problem with what I said. Everyone else took it for what is was.
If anyone's going overboard it's him.
But.....Bangai-o has a big ROBOT ON THE COVER! AHH!
D'OH! I forgot about that! Bangai-O is 100% mech game. My apologies. Carry on. ;)
My Fave Mech Games to date....
Bangai-O
all the Armored Core's
VOOT
Front Mission 3
Xenogears
Thats about it.
And i don't think that Bangai-O would have looked right with a little ship hovering spinning in circles firing laster beams and homing missles...i just don't.
words from the Big Black Guy,
JBNagis
hye wait a minute here.. arent Mech games american.. a Mech games are the US name for robot games..
while games like voot, gundam. etc... are mecha games...
so i guess i havent played a good mech game... but i have played aswome mecha games..
I already had.Quote:

I forgot to add Xenogears and Omega Boost.
I've only played the demo to Front Mission 3, but it was hella fun so I'll add it. Ring of Red was decent, but I didn't get into it so I'm not sure how the whole thing holds up.
Those bastards from Crete are definitely an unruly bunch, always trying to stretch the definition of "mech". Bastards, I say!!Quote:

Just to be disagreeable, Bangai-O.
It's a game. It has a mech in it. Good enough.
*look at Click_Stick sig*
 great sig man
you went overboard first. it would have been enough to simply say that his definition was more liberal, but you included: "go bother someone else", which is extra, and not related to the topic of your disagreement.Quote:

the controls in bangaio are effected to work as though the character is a mech, that can also fly . There's no rule saying the games have to be quasi-realistic portrayals.
You're right, Rezo! How could I have been so stupid?! It's my fault he (and now you) read into my statement and saw something there that wasn't! And it's my fault he got all sarcastic and quipy.
I'm sorry. I apologize.
And just to clear things up, because you nor he can read properly, all I said was that I didn't think it should have been included. I didn't protest. I didn't look down on people for it. And I never said they shouldn't include it.
My God! You say one thing and everyone blows it out of proportion and takes it as a personal attack or character assassination. Grow up, jack ass.
You make me laugh. :DQuote:

Fucking a, everyone quit your whining and get back to the topic.
Bangai-O: quite possibly the greatest mech game ever! Oh boy!
Click Stick, nice sig! :)
Zeonic Front, Tech Romancer, BattleTech on the Gennie, and Ghost in the Shell for PS1 (what, Fuchikoma is a mech, sorta).
Anxiously awaiting Ring of Red (still hasn't arrived), and Federation vs Zeon...and Mechassault...
Ok, Mechwarrior 2 is the best Mech game ever made. Story over. Looking forward to Mech Assault or whatever its called for X-Box.
And I can't believe somebody made a distinction between Mech and Mecha. GIANT ROBOT = GIANT ROBOT. Mmm'k?
The thing about Bangai-O is the Macross style missles that fly out when using Riki. Its obviously more mech inspired than just having a "normal" robot flying around destroying things. I"m thinking the mechs in Bangai-O were based on the walker mode mechs in Macross.
The Armored Core and Virtual On games are probably the only mech games I've truly enjoyed. The slow pace and sluggish controls of most Western mech games just aren't capable of generating a gaming rush for me.
