can anyone help me out in finding which genesis and SCD shooters (shootemups) were the best on each system?
i can think of a few on genesis but i'm sure there are more, and i'm not even sure about segaCD at all..
the reason i ask is because i'm going on a road trip very soon and bringing along my CDX, and i can't be away from shooters for very long or i start to get weak and foam at the mouth, etc..
any help is appreciated :)
Here's some Genny shmups for ya: MUSHA (made by Compile same shootem'up wizards who brought us Blazing Lazers and many others), Gaiares, and Truxton and Twin Cobra. Android Assault aka Bari Arm is a horizontal Sega CD shmup which is supposed to be very good. The only one of these that I've played for the Genny is MUSHA (AWESOME shooter) but those are the essential Sega shooters according to everyone who's played 'em. Both MUSHA and Android Assault are currently on ebay at very good bids currently. Hope that helps. :)
I hate most shooters preceding 1998 but the Genesis has a decent amount that doesn't bore me to tears: Phelios, Lightening Force, Trouble Shooter, Air Buster, MUSHA, and Bio Hazard Battle.

Ummm whoops you want Sega CD. Robo Aleste is pretty good as is Keio Flying Squadron. At it\'s going price Andriod Assault (Bari Arms) is a decent game if inconsistently paced. *-neo

That should do it. I'd also recommend Forgotten Worlds and Sagaia for cheap.
SCD would be Sega CD in this case, although that was a pretty poor usage of acronym there.
I understand Lords of Thunder on Sega CD isn't as good as the PC Engine version, but it's still gotta be at least pretty good (...right?...) It's an awesome shooter.
I always forget about Lords of Thunder. I played through it a while back and sold it (I just have the TCD version now), and despite popular opinion, it is NOT a "far inferior version." It's very good and you'd be hardpressed to notice any real flaws. People complain about color and the character pauses when hit (as opposed to just flashing and sliding through everything, which I find a bit annoying). On the plus side, the game has added voices, or at least where the Turbo CD version was supposed to have voices. Basically a very solid version all-around (though, obviously, I prefer to have the original).
Truxton is one hell of a Shooter for the Genesis! Wings of Wor is another great one in my opinion.
sorry guys.. poor use of the SCD acro.. it's Sega CD shooters i'm interested in, not super cd..
i need shooters for my CDX (gen + sega cd)..
