Well, really a converter will open up the PC Engine market to you while letting you pick up the number of quality domestic releases.
My favorite part of this system is the embodiment of classic gameplay. Your controller is nothing more than a modified NES pad and the games typically have the challenge of Nintendo's original with far better graphics. The Turbo is host to some great arcade ports and the little system's processor impressed me more than a few times. Seeing the speed of everything in later levels of Super Star Soldier crushed many SNES shooters I've played.
Just don't expect great graphics and understand that patience is the only way to get some great games on this console ie Magical Chase. *-neo
mmmm....they are the same thing if you got a card convertor for the Turbo.
me, i have a special place in my heart for the PCE because i chose the TG16 over the Genesis back in 91' and it was the first console which i started buying imports for....
in retrospect i think alot of the love for it is due to the undergroundness of it and not so much the fun factor. =(
buy the MagicEngine and save your money for some more worthwhile gaming stuff IMO, Saturn & SNES imports, new PS2 stuff, a arcade cab, you catch my drift.
Without a PC Engine Super CD, you can't play the greatest game ever coded. If that doesn't sell you, you're hopeless.
A library of thousands of games featuring tons of Japanese rpgs (you know, the good 16 bit cd kind), tons of AMAZING shooters, games that everyone wants/loves like Dracula X, Sapphire & Y's IV, more anime-cinema action rpgs than you can shake a stick at, some awesome soundtracks (something about that sound chip - some poignant sounds comin' outta that sucker), tons o' nekkid chick games, classic 8/16-bit style platformers, billions of classic arcade ports, the most uniquely Japanesey games that ever were Japanese, and a western library with some real gems in it (Splatterhouse, Y's I&II, III, Lords of Thunder, and Working Designs' earliest stuff - all rpgs, if you're into that sort of thing, Blazing Lazers, Side Arms, etc.).
You absolutely can't go wrong with a Duo if you're into 16 bit gaming. If you haven't played any of its library, I envy you. If its games suit your tastes, the thing was around forever (and saw quite a few upgrade cards/peripherals) and as such has more good stuff on it than the SNES or Genny as long as you can live without Sega/Nintendo/Square.
So, yeah, you should totally get one.
It will get you one step closer to being "hardcore".Quote:
Someone sell me on the PC Engine.
Neutopia.
The PC Engine has some great games, but it's nowhere near the Holy Grail of gaming many people make it out to be.
I enjoy my Duo and the games I have for it but I don't think it's for everyone.
And BTW, the PCE's sound chip sucks.
Where's the agreeance smiley.Quote:

The shooters are many, but there aren't many great ones. Hell, I would even be reluctant to calling more than a few of them "great." Lots of decent material to be had, if you're into decent. I'd personally stick with a U.S. Duo if I had that option, as I really don't feel the PC-Engine chips are worth the effort (try some Magic Engine and see for yourself) and you'd be able to play the PC-E CDs, where presumably the gold is.
On what grounds? It's not as flexible or clear as the SNES', but there's some awesome lo-fi chords coming out of it, and programmers really learned how to get the most from its limited channels later on. Either way, it kicks the Genny's aural ass...Quote:
