The Ring

Just curious if anyone else is looking forward to this movie. I've only seen the trailers, but bits of it looked a little Silent Hill-esque. :)

i'm so looking forward to this movie (see sig). i saw the japanese version and i loved it. looking at the trailer for the remake, things look to be about the same. and naomi watts in the lead, i think she's sexy.

:eek:I didn't know Watts was in it! I gotta see it now.:) She was robbed from an oscar last year. She was incredible in Mulholland Dr. I wasn't really looking forward to this Ring remake but if she's in it it has a chance. I am getting tired of these remakes though. Open Your Eyes is only 5 years old and it got remade. I still think it's better than Vanilla Sky. Now Ring. It's only about 5 years old also. Just release the fucking original here. But the remake of this looks pretty good and it does have Watts. I hope it turns out alright.

Does anyone know if the japanese version (Ringu) is out on DVD?

The only subtitled version of Ring is on a PAL dvd.

there are copies of the ring that are all-region. it's very bare-bones. bare as in only 2 options on the menu, play and chapter selection. it's also not that great a copy. but it's useable if you want to check it out before someone releases an actual copy here (viz should still think about it).

Ashen, so where can I get it? It has subtitles right?

ebay is where i got my copy (21 and change with shipping included IIRC). it's definitely NOT an official product, in fact, the cover of mine is a photocopy. and there are hard subtitles on it, so you can't take them off using the subtitle button (not that i think you would). i bought ring 2, but i haven't picked it up from bandit yet. he tells me the packaging looks good so it might be legit. i'll check it out tomorrow if i can.

there's a guy on ebay selling a double disc set with both ring and ring 2. that, i believe, is going for about $26-30. search for "ring dvd"

Better than the Tokyo Shock disc of Fudoh. There isn't a menu to speak of on it.
