New Gaming TV -- Lend Your Comments

Earlier this year, I bought a 20" PureFlat Toshiba TV, but my sister needs a new TV for her house and I opted to sell mine to her. So now, I'm in the market for a new gaming TV -- in the 27", under $500 CDN range.

Here are a few candidates for my purchase:

JVC 27" - component inputs, s-video, and composite ($449.99 CDN)

Panasonic 27" - component inputs, s-video, and composite. ($499.99 CDN)

Sony 27" - S-video, and composite.

If anyone knows of a better TV, or currently own one of the above models, or might have higher knowledge about best TV buys, lend a few comments below. Thanks! :)

I would say go with the Panasonic. However, I can not base this reccomendation on anything other than my own personal beliefs.

Buy a WEGA, 27" or larger. I spent awhile shopping around for various TVs two years ago, and I've got several audio/videophile friends to guide me who pointed me at it. Crisp, clear, flat picture. It's good to the point that I go to other peoples houses and get grumpy when we play games on their tv, and I always hated tv snobs ;)

I'd go with JVC, only the D-Series model. That Panasonic set doesn't look all too shabby either, and I've never really heard anything terrible concerning that brand.

Victrix, all the 27" VEGAs exceed his $500 limit. He'd be better off with a Toshiba anyways. :)

I got mine for under $500, just have to shop around.

Only thing I'd consider over it would be some type of (good) HD tv. And that's after two extra years of looking at other televisions...

i paid 550 for my flat screen 27 inch sony wega and it has componet s video and composite imputs and its FUCKING GORGEOUS

and i think this model is cheaper now as they just released a newer model

Don't rule out the panasonic tau's, cheaper than the wega, hard to say which has better picture quality...i think the tau has a more vibrant picture, which is better for gaming...

The cheapest WEGA at Future Shop is $800. And the Tau is even more than that. I think you guys are getting currencies confused.

Hey Celeryface, if I had those 3 choices, I'd go with Panasonic. JVC is okay, but I've had some experiences with their TV's and JVC just doesn't ring Quality to me. Sony... well, Sony just sucks except when it comes to their Trinitron monitors. I haven't gone wrong with Panasonic. That's my two cents.

I own a Panasonic Tau 27'' and people who've stopped by my place are jealous of the incredible picture quality. Playing systems on it rocks (especially w/S-Video connection). I wish Monster would reconsider and release Component cables for the Gamecube (so far, only my DVD is taking advantage of it).

According to your post Celeryface, the Wega model you're looking at doesn't have component cables. In that case, go for the Tau. Even if the Wega did have component inputs, I'd still go for the Tau, but you can't go wrong with either model.
