Actually, while 1024x768 and up is definitely the choice for the computer-literate, 800x600 is still definitely the most used. Now not saying anybody should be designing a site FOR 800x600. I mean sure, you can accomodate both, but 1024 and up is thinking to the future, which everyone will all eventually migrate to.
Can we not have the quotes (see above) so hard to read on the default colors?Quote:

i run it at 1240 x 960 because it mantains a 4:3 aspect ratio which is the same as NTSC television so when i render an image i know that its going to look like that and not be squished or stretched looking when it goes to the tv
helps keep me 1 step closer to seeing on my screen what the final output will be like
I always design a site for 800x600. If for no other reason than at any larger the column width has a tendancy to become too long. Wide columns of 12-14pt text becomes difficult to read. If you look at newspapers, books, magazines, anything professionally designed, you'll see there's always a nice proportion between point size and column width.
The other issue is many non Windows OSes don't promote maximizing windows the way MS Windows does. MacOS users and users of many different window managers in Unix often don't maximize Windows.
Not to mention I'd be at a loss of what to put in a site with all that floor space. 800x600 provides more than enough to do what I need.
I run at 1024x768, even though my monitor can comfortably go bigger.
1280x1024 for me.
Anything less looks kinda crappy. Not sure if it my video card or the fact that I am using a digital flatscreen monitor, but 1280x1024 works just fine for me.

Anything larger and my eyes start to act funny.
800 X 600 also. I really, really hate any higher.
