Official Onimusha 2 Thread

Didn't see one, so I figured I'd start one. Picked it up last night--the only games people were buying was this and Sunshine, it seemed like.

First off--the opening movie is amazing--downright amazing...possibly the finest I have ever seen...

The graphics are improved somewhat--background effects, like water and shadows, etc. are nicely done.

Anyway, I played for an hour or so and really liked it so far. Jubei (main character) seems a little faster than Samonuske (sp?). Controls are basically the same so far. Counter is really easy to pull off and can net you some massive souls if done on a huge group. He has a cool stab that launches the enemy into the air.

I like the trading feature-- it seems like a trial and error thing--find out what the sub character likes and give it to him and get better items in return.

So yeah I'm only a little into the game, spent most of my time mastering the controls and what not.

What are your thoughts?

I don't have the game yet but I want to add that I'm surprised EB had an M-rated game on display. Not that I care if kids see it, but I'm sure somebody does since I remember a few people complaining about the first game being on display.

I agree about the intro, but maybe I give the slight edge to the character presentation part of it.

Its just amazing when you see the waves splashing up and they consists of tiny paper pieces, just wow.
But there was a song on a trailer that I don't think was included in the game or maybe there was another version only.

Well, I also pickes this game yesterday. But was little busy to post any impressions yet, so here I go :)

The game is beautiful. Starting with AWESOME inro movie, both CGI scenes of village raid, and later Character portraits. Everything is of highest quality I ever seen. Is it was mentioned the style of how characters introduced, its like combination of grafic novel, with animation, and CGI is breathtaking.

In game environments and character models are also seemless, from the Jubei to the enemy soldiers and Lizarmen you fight. Beautiful prerendered backgrounds, full of life, color and motion. Cool touches like bamboo that can be slashed down, frogs jumping near the waters, wind in leaves and wrinkles on the water. ALso great rain effect in the beggining of the game, combined with fog.

Control scheme stayed the same, with RE style controls, but the game and characters control and move more faster and precise this time around. You can perform various secret techinques and combos with your weapons, once you uncover them. There are more weapons then it was in original game, and so far we found only 2, Thunder Sword and Ice Spear, but both kick ass, and fun to use. You also can find Bow(with various arrows) and Rifle.

Combat is cool and easy. If you time them right, you can excute powerfull counter-attacks, and one-slash kills. Jubei does move faster compared to Samonosuke, and it helps alot during the battles.

There are alot of cool interaction with people of the town, and few supporting characters. By giving them gifts and trading you can make them your friends, and they will come to your help in various points of the game. The trading feature is very fun, and we spend most of our play time last night, giving gifts, and guessing which person would love to receive that particular item most. You collect gold as you kill enemies, and then can buy various items in the store in town. Use those items wisely, and you can get some really great gifts back from people, like Power or Magic Jewles, or new techniques books for your weapons.

The game features only English voices, and sadly there is no option to have original Japanese dub, like it was in first game. But so far I found voices not that bad(much better than ones in RE Remake for example).

We also did some exploration, and had a first Boss encounter. That fight was pretty cool, and challenging, as he could take alot of damage before going down, and you got to watch out for his jump attacks, or you will end up flat as a pancake.

So the game is fun, and with all the new feature its a blast to play. Definately an improvment over the original game, and good buy :)

Yet another piece of media starring Jubei Yaguu. Why not more stuff starring Miyamoto Musashi? *sigh*

Anyways, is there any word on an XBox version? I was pissed when I got Onimusha 1 only to find a superior XBox version not long after :(

Well, Knowing Capcom, Xbox version is possible, but there are NO official word on it. Sure you can wait for it, but PS2 version is great also, so I would go with that for now :)

The Xbox ver of Onimusha sold horribly, so it's unlikely, but the creator said in an interview that if people were unsatisfied with it like many were with the first one, then a revised Xbox version is possible.

On the whole, I'd say its unlikely though.

Well, We played some more and it gets better as you explore more of the world. You can visit Castle from original Onimusha, and thats pretty cool. As you move further into the game, more monsters show up, and the number of them on screen is bigger than in original.

Was the Intro Censored? I remember talks of that maybe happening after people played the import. Also the first was Censored a bit too right?

Well, I dont know what was shown in the import version of Onimusha 2, but US version still have a girl in the waterfall scene. Very beautiful too. Hve no idea if it was edited though.
