You sound like a game show host. :p
But I'm not finished yet...

So, without further ado..
Valgar / 94,002,046 / 2925 HITS
Theoretically, my current max is ~97+ Million. I got hit 6 times during that run.
--------------------------
Over the summer I aquired a S&P Strategy Guide from Japan (Thank you Seven Force!). The guide states that the "Target Score" for Normal mode is 91 million / 2900 HITS :\
Originally I decided which bosses needed to be taken advantage of. Later, after getting the Strategy Guide, I found that I was correct on all of my choices. Let's go over these bosses and compare ideas/strats.
"Milk! In a dirty glass, please!"
Bee Seemer
He gets chomped at ~70 seconds. Just get him down to low life while shotting down some flying ruffians.
Centipede Seemer
Before I would just wait till around 35 seconds to kill him. Thanks to StrangenessDSS now I know it's one minute (THANKS!) ;)
Though, I'm not getting 510,000, instead I'm getting a lower number, BUT..my hits are ~340 with the highest being 350 (that I've achieved).
Crab Seemer
Real simple
- Shoot down to half life
- Kill bipedal ruffians
- Shoot to ~1 HP
- Kill bipedal ruffians
- Destroy boss
Colderon
Colderon is weird. I can't figure out exactly how his departure works. However, I THINK that getting him down below 10 life will make him stay longer. At the moment I kill him with 27 seconds left. While waiting, I destroy the huge ships that fly from the background.
Lizard Seemer
I'm still not sure about this boss. The guide says to shoot down the bats, but you only kill about 10. Do you think killing him faster would yeild more points? He can be killed in a couple seconds..
Moth Seemer
|-) Simple
Crawfish Seemer
This time were not going for hits, but rather Yellow Diamonds :_) . Take him down to low life while collecting them. The last item will be a Purple Time circle, kill him quickly after that.
Mother Crow
The guide says to wait on this and just shoot down planes. I do this, until the larger ships start to shoot out missles. From here I finish it off, then destroy the 3 mechs which carrier bonuses.
Any ideas on this boss?
Mole Seemer 3
We all know those mole ruffians are worth a lot of points! The mole seemer will leave after 3 sets of mole ruffians come from the sides.
Any thoughts how to avoid the flames the Mole Seemer shoots out sparringly? I can't even identify when he is doing it.
Birth Model
IMHO, the biggest milking spot in the game. Each rock is worth one hit. I stand around and shoot in a big circle to rack up points. Kill the eye once it appears the first two times. After that, I let the rocks rebuild and then repeat. Always kill that annoying arm right away though. At about 20 seconds it's time to get serious so you don't go below 0 seconds.
Spider Seemer 2
After the mass assault of spider ruffians, I stand still and let more come out from behind the counter. Don't shoot the seemer or else he will retreat and start a new attack. These ruffians tend to carry a lot of Yellow Daimonds as well. You will also notice they stop coming at 55 seconds. From here start working on finishing the spider seemer. You can still get a lot of hits from more spider ruffians later on. Make sure you just don't go over time.
HITS
Each level the S&P Guide gives a "Target HIT"
*How is 440 possible? 390 is my max.Code:
Stage HITS TOTAL
0-0 330 330
1-1 300 630
1-2 320 950
1-3 0 950
2-1 150 1100
2-2 450 1550
2-3 350 1900
3-1 200 2100
3-2 440 2540 *
3-3 360 2900
Slice or dice?
Does the sword yield more points? Time must effect normal shots. Toy around with the first ruffians in 0-0 to see what I mean.
Damn... that's a lot of points. Looks like I've got a bit of catching up to do.
Re: Slice or Dice - did you see the scoring mechanics topic I posted on Gamefaqs? I figured out exactly how the game calculates score from shooting/slicing/otherwise damaging things.
http://cgi.gamefaqs.com/boards/genme...topic=11325785
In short: you get points for damaging things, and the only difference between the sword and the gun is that you might lose fractions of a point due to truncating. The amount of points you get runs on the same old (HITS + TIME + LIFE) * X formula.
I was thinking of tidying up that post and submitting it as a faq, since I wasn't able to find that info explained anywhere and I don't want it to disappear.

Nice work though, thanks for figuring that out.
I just got my commodore cable and am ready to capture...once I get a card.
You could post it in here too. I don't think this thread will go anywhere unless TNL explodes :oQuote:

It didn't seem like it'd be too hard, but I started ending up with some weird numbers and wasn't able to figure out why. Not having much else to do last night, I recorded a couple videos to analyze. After covering a couple papers with calculations and going up a few blind alleys, I've finally managed to figure it out.
The amount of score for a Central Commander Bonus is well-known:
(HIT + TIME + LIFE) * 1000
Likewise, a Commander Bonus is simple:
(HIT + TIME + LIFE) * 100
The formula for the amount of points you get for shooting/slicing/otherwise damaging something isn't any more complicated:
(HIT + TIME + LIFE) * Amount of damage given
That was actually my first guess, but a lot of the numbers didn't match up. It wasn't until I figured out the tricksy way the game calculates damage that it made sense.
The game runs on eighths. Here's the damage that your shots do:
Regular Shots
-Easy: 1.25
-Normal: 1.125
-Hard: 1.0
Lock-on Shots
-Easy: 0.75
-Normal: 0.5
-Hard: 0.25
The HP display for a boss is truncated. If an enemy gets knocked down below 1 HP, it dies, and the remaining fraction is added to the damage of the last hit. You cannot do more damage than an enemy has HP.
If the amount of score you get from any given hit is not an integer, it will be truncated and the fraction is lost.
Some examples:
The first enemy in the game is a flying bug-like ruffian, with 1 HP. Hitting it with anything will kill it and do 1 point of damage.
There are also flying bug-like ruffians with 3 HP. Shooting these once on Normal with a regular shot will do 1.125 points of damage. Shooting them a second time kills them, and does 1.875 points of damage. Slicing an unhurt one kills it and does 3 points of damage.
The plain soldiers in 1-1 have 2 HP. Shooting one with a regular shot on Normal kills it and does 2 points of damage.
Transformed Kachua's first form has 170 HP. Shoot it once with a regular shot on normal, and the display will say it has 168 HP (it's actually 168.875). Every eight shots, the fractions will add up, and the display will skip another number.
100 points of damage is the same as a Commander Bonus. 1000 points of damage is the same as a Central Commander Bonus.
(Note: You don't get any points for damaging the final boss, due to obvious reasons.)

That info really helps, Valgar... I was playing horribly that time, and still managed to beat my old score.
Next time I'll hopefully get the Perfect Bonus... I've done it in practice, but since I was messing up so much this time, I didn't get close. That should give my score a nice boost.
Amazing eh? I jumped from 70 to 80 to 90 in roughly two weeks or so. Right now I'm at a point where I either A. Need to find more HITS or B. Concentrate on not getting hit/yellow diamonds (which I've been working on).Quote:

What are you guys getting on 3-2? I don't see how 440 is possible! :\
I can only get about 370, and that's killing almost everything I see. Maybe there's a few of those segmented ruffians that are worth a dozen or so hits hidden somewhere?
One second saved will net you 100 points. One extra hit will get you 100 points, plus 100 points from all the other Commander Bonuses, plus 1000 points for every Central Commander Bonus, plus however many points of damage you do during the rest of the game.Quote:

A single kill is probably worth a good deal more than 99 seconds there.
