THE HORROR!!! the horror....

My child, i mean dreamcast just died on me i think!!!!! I was playing and then i turned it off and went downstairs for some juice. When I came back up I popped in a new game and then i hear some harsh clicking noises.

*note my dreamcast had been running perfect previously.

I thought it was just some noise elsewhere and then I turned the channel (I usually watch tv while it loads) and it was on the main screen thingy. A cold chill went through my spine.

I opened her up and nothing seemed to be wrong. I checked the disc, not a single scratch. Determined that it must be the "fucking game" I tried 3 more games. Every single time it did the same awful clicking noises (and then it sais no cd inserted when you go to play).

I have a little over 40 games for dreamcast (about half of which i havent beat yet) and this is my jewel. is there anything i can do?!

Man oh man that sucks. Try to find someone to repair it, or buy another DC.

Have you tried any other games on it, or just the one? How about a music CD?

I'm no electronics whiz, but I'll bet the clicking is your GD-ROM drive. NCS sells replacement drives, I think. No telling how hard it is to install a new one.

My PS2 does that, too. Did you accidentally hit the DVD tray? That's what I did once...and it makes the grinding noise whenever I put in vertical positioning.

I feel for you. The same thing happened to me about a year and half ago. I inserted Mars Matrix when my jp* dc started choking up. It sounded like and really loud sling shot right the moment my cd drive died. I knew it was that because it didn't even spin. I bought and replaced the cd thrive and it's worked like new ever since.

There was a thread about this on the Neo forums awhile back, same thing happened to a guy. I'm not saying its common, but I guess after thousands of hours of use, some Dreamcasts just die. Meaning mine is about due...D'OH!! :mad:

Its either the laser or the thing that spins the disc. Either way, just get another one. Same thing happened to me.

The odd thing is one second it worked and the next it didnt, there was never any indication!

Anyhow the new GD ROM Drives, are they like the ones made before or after october 2001 or whatever because one of the 2 was better but i forgot which one :-/
