Just wondering? I picked this up last year when Best Buy was trying to get rid of em. Only put in about 15-20 minutes at the time it didn't grab my atention so it was added to my pile of shame. Anyone have good/bad expeirences with SEGA GT?

It's pretty good, but doesn't handle as well or have as many cars as Gran Turismo, of which it is a complete rip off. Sega GT 2002 is coming out on Xbox in a couple of weeks; I'll definitely check it out to see if it can compete with GT3.

I used to think that too, but upon further play, you begin to realise the game is more of an arcade style racer with a Gran Tourismo upgrade systme. I you're expecting Gran Tourismo, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a Sega style arcade racer, the game is pretty fun.
The first couple of hours playing the game I was expecting Sega's version of Gran Tourismo. After playing GT3 for about a dozen hours, I popped Sega GT into the DC. The gameplay was'nt about being a simulation like Gran T 3. It's an arcade racing game in which you unlock other tracks, upgrade your car, and just race balls to the walls. Even the music has that old arcade feel to it. The game reminds me of Top Gear 2000 on the SNES, but with more cars, upgrades, and Sega arcade roots.
Sega GT was a good game. Sega GT 2002, however, looks like it will be extremely good.
Well said, Gamevet - a long time ago, on the GG! board, I started a thread on how playing Sega GT gave me Outrun flashbacks...the NSX, I think, in particular. It's a great game, and not much like Gran Turismo (a plus for me).
I'm a fan of killing this series and getting my Daytona 2 port!
eh it was ok, Daytona was much better though.
Thing I've noticed about SegaGT is that most people diss it as being a turd, but there are a few individuals who say the physics are far more realistic than the Gran Turismo games.
Having not played SegaGT, nor have much knowledge on real car physics, I can't say. But that's the impressions I've gotten.
95% of people: It blows!
5% of people: It so rocks, and is realistic!
There's one aspect that I love, that neither GT 1, 2, or 3 doesn't have: The Carrozeria. It's basically a mode where you can create your own cars, and although they are limited to the items available in the game, I loved it. There are about 15-20 bodies total, engines from i4 to V8 (or it may have been V10 or 12), all of which can be turbo, supercharged, or naturally aspirated.
You can create extremely unrealistic combos, such as a 60's style boat with a turbo V8, 800 hp, and a 3 speed transmission, in hot pink. How is that not fun?

By the way, I believe I still have my copy of the import Sega GT, which has way better packaging (2 50 or so page color manuals and some stickers :)), if anyone's interested.
Picture taken ages ago: Viola!
Not being a fan of GT racers, this bin buy has recieved the least play time of all my DC racers.....
When you put it like that though I think I'll be sitting down with it again one of these days. *-neoQuote:

I had completely forgotten about the Carozzeria- an amazing addition to the game. You can do all sorts of neat things with it, and the range of choices is amazing. The engines run from a straight 4s to V12s, with 2 and 3 rotor rotary engines, straight-8 engines (hah), V10s, boxer 6s, and a few other choices in between. Turbo, Supercharged, or NA breathing, and you can also put the engines in the front, rear, or middle of the car, with FWD, AWD, and RWD drive trains.Quote:

There's a body in there that (intentionally, I think) looks just like the old Alfa 2000 GTV body, one of my favorite car designs, and I was able to make an almost exact replica of that car's weight and hp/torque specs.
You can also make some pretty interesting observations about the way engine placement and drive types change the way a car handles. Make the same car with rear-engine/RWD and then front-engine RWD, do some test laps, and you'll be amazed with how the engine movement changes things. High-torque RR cars are crazy, so easy to powersteer, almost impossible to drive, but fun.
It's neat to try to also make good cars out of fundamentally stupid ideas, like a rear-engined Front Wheel Drive car with a three-rotor rotary.
Really, I'd forgotten how much I liked the game. It's great.
