Update: Valgar reclaims first.

Rules: Full default settings (Normal difficulty, extend= type 2, player stock=3). You may play in any of the screen settings, but of course "vertical 1" is really the only appropriate way to play this game. Scores from Naomi, Dreamcast and Gamecube formats will be accepted. Gamecube players must play at full speed, not in the added "slow" mode. List your name, score, last stage reached and your max chain. When posting please put commas in your score. Have at it...

Click_Stick: If you could, check through any recent Arcadia issues you have and see if you can find a Japanese score for this game (they're in the back), I'd like a target to aim for despite my sure-to-be-incompetant self. My March issue has RS, but no Ikaruga.

My one issue is at home, unfortunately... Mode's link should provide some good scores, however.

And yes, hands down to the most sexual chart yet.

I wonder about the disparity in scores between Normal and Hard. Kind of odd...

In NORMAL difficulty, if you destroy an enemy with the
same-colored weapon, it will eject suicide bullets--
bullets that aim toward your warship. The same applies to
HARD difficulty; however, if you destroy an enemy with a

I guess it's difficult to dodge both colors of suicide
bullets in certain situations. It could be better to let
a few enemies escape, thus sacrificing score in order to

I've yet to play Ikaruga, so I'm unable to confirm if this
is correct. But I think my reasoning is plausible. Unless

*shrugs* Your guess is as good (though easily better) then mine at this point. Thanks for the info!

Would this mean that one would naturally earn less points in Hard (provided you get points for absorbing bullets and earning Supers), or am I off on that? Would the extra enemies (I'm guessing Hard has) give off points to offset that?

First off, you earn 100 points for each bullet you absorb.
You gain nothing extra for earning a super.

Despite this, you're right, you would earn fewer points on
HARD. Just look at Treasure's Chapter 1 video. Sometimes,
both black and white enemies move quickly along a certain
path, so you must stay as one color in order to catch them
all. On HARD, I doubt you can approach all these situations
such that (1) you would make chains as you would on NORMAL
and (2) dodge suicide bullets of both colors. You would
have to sacrifice chains in order to survive. Does this
make sense?

Yepyep. Thanks again, my copy shall hopefully be here in a few days so I can experiement myself.

Now, the regular enemies give off less bullets from dying in Hard, but do the bosses toss out more weaponary? Could you actually make up points on the bosses (ala ESP RaDe), or does absorbing them not matter and you only get points for killing bosses?

Bosses are on a timer and, what's more, will dispense higher bonuses the quicker you dispense with them. So, no.

does anybody know how many levels they are in Ikaruga ?. Does it have extra bosses if you set the difficulty to hard ?. can't wait to get my copy too !.

Everyone please take note and submit your max chain as well (thanks Mode). And everyone seems to have gotten it before me...grrr. Hopefully I'll have mine in a day or two. I'll add any extra modes/details then if necessary.

IF anyone else hasn't noticed or maybe it was just me, for hard mode:

normally you only get one color of suicide bullets, yet in hard, no matter your color othe enemys they shoot their own color of suicide bullets, upping the difficulty quite a bit for me.

A word re: Score Board etiquette:

Every time you achieve a new high score, post a new post instead of editing your original post. This makes it easier for the thread keeper to tell when the thread needs to be updated. If you think it won't be long before you top your high score, wait until you start to plateau, and then submit your score.

I'm no authority, of course, I'm just speaking from personal experience and preference.
