Why yes. I played it a little bit, on the first try i got to be 43rd in the net ranking for Prototype mode. Since i didn't play in a while, I'm like 66th or something. I'm better in arcade mode.Quote:

My memory card is halfway across the country so I can't retrive the max chain. Great game.
Not a big update, but still worth noting. ;)
Jx2 / 24,135,000 / Chapter A / Max Chain: 172. 36th in the net-ranking.
I actually managed to chain chapter 4 without breaking it once! Got around 6 mil... a new PB. :)
Jx2 / 25,253,490 / Chapter All / Max Chain 174 - 30th in the net-ranking.
A breakdown for anyone whose interested. :)
Chapter 1 - 3,956,640 - 126 Chain.
Chapter 2 - 5,397,240 - 174 Chain.
Chapter 3 - 3,726,830 - 57 Chain.*
Chapter 4 - 6,033,110 - 163 Chain.
Chapter 5 - 4,562,670 - 86 Chain.
3 remaining lives - 1,500,000.
* - I still can't seem to chain chapter 3 right. I can do the individual sections in conquest but I can never seem to pull it all together in a full run... and the multiplying enemies at the end of 3-2.... I can't do them either. ;)
EDIT: Dammit, im getting too good at this. =P
Jx2 / 25,556,530 / Chapter All / Max Chain 174 - Now 28th in the net-ranking.
the proper engrish term is I'm not regret. It's great to be world ranked isn't it ? :D
Ah yes, but I was nice enough to "translate" it for our humble Japanese friends.
Jx2 / 25,646,650 / Chapter All / Max Chain 175 btw ^__^
Hey Cigs, I think you missed this post. Could you put my score up please?Quote:

Got a new PB of around 6.3mil on Chapter 4 this time, thanks to the new 188 Max chain. :D
On a negative note, I died in some stupid places losing me about 1.5 mil in the end-game bonus.. but theres always next time.
Haven't been playing Ikaruga for a couple of weeks, due to large quantities of Uni coursework. With more work due in next week, I decided I could spare 20-25 minutes for a quick Ikaruga playthrough. Here's the result:
Chapter 1: 3,929,830 (126 Chain)
Chapter 2: 5,442,260 (178 Chain)
Chapter 3: 5,537,020 (181 Chain)
Chapter 4: 6,625,040 (120 Chain) <-- Broke chain with just before 4-3. Chained rest perfectly.
Chapter 5: 5,166,120 (114 Chain)
Subtotal: 26,700,270
How many lives of the possible 7 did I have left?
ONE!
AAAAAAARGH!
I lost 1 life on Chapter 1 boss, 2 on Chapter 3 boss, 1 on Chapter 4-2 swirly laser thing and 2 on the crystal.
Final Score: 27,274,870 (19th on my high-score table)
Potential Score: 30,274,870
Makes me sooooo mad. But I'll nail this game soon... when it least expects it!
;)
Exactly... one day i'm just gonna turn it on at 3am and take it by surprise and crack 30mil. =D
For now though, 26.6 seems to be a rather large barrier for me to break.... I had a go earlier and pulled off S++ in the first 3 stages (a new PB in chapter 3) and had lost no lives whatsoever... then chapter 4 came. :|
If only you could cellotape all your best scores together.
And btw, I STILL can't fully chain 2-1. :( Admitedly, I havent been practising it very much but it'd help mucho if I could incorporate a 44 chain into the mix instead of 38.... every chain counts...
Oh, and Cigs... update the table! :P I want to see myself in the top 10 finally. ;)
Ok, I think i've sorta got the hang of 2-1 now... I can only manage a 42 chain though, those last two chains seem too hard to get at the moment...
Anyway, I said i'd post a video when I managed to crack it Chris, so here ya go. ;)
http://www.angelfire.com/anime5/jx2/2-1_Godammit.zip
Ive found a nice new compression tool, so the sound quality, video quality and length are much better than the first vid I posted, but its only half the size. (1.8Mb) ;)
You working on the 44 Jx2? That's a beautiful thing when you finally master it.
Indeed I am. I can't seem to break 26.6 million so ive been going back through some of my strategy to improve my chain score wherever I can... I can manage a 181 chain on Chapter 2 now, but that still means im missing out on 10+ more chains on top of that.
I can't improve my Chapter 1 past 127 chain... my Chapter 3 stands at 170, Chapter 4 is around 182, and Chapter 5 is usually around 106... I can completely bullet eat Tageri around 50% of the time, but at the moment I don't usually risk the 500,000 extra life bonus I would lose if I messed it up.
So that's my current situation. ;) I think my next step will be to chain all the scrolling gun turrets in 4-3, and trying to incorporate the enemies on the perimeter in 4-2.... not as easy as it sounds.
EDIT: Erm... I kind of breached my terms of contract for angelfire so the link to my video won't work anymore. If anybody really wants to see it, just add me to your MSN or whatever. :)
181c WITHOUT THE 44!!! I have 179 WITH the 44, you must have the bonus rows down.
Not quite that good. ;) I do manage to get a 42 chain at the start so that helps towards a 181... its just the full 44 I havent gotten yet. Heres a quick run-down.
I can manage a 42 at the start. I pick up the 5 sets of the closing circle shell-enemies (maximum methinks), I destroy every box thing when possible... sometimes there isnt enough time to pick off the last ones. I destroy the first white laser firing thing to get the extra 4 chains, as well as the second and third ones for the bonus 8 chains after that, then every enemy and box in the next section. Then theres the 6 enemy producing things, I usually get 4 chains of each colour (I think) before destroying the black enemy producing things and then finishing off as many whites as possible.
After that its just a matter of killing the beam ships quick enough to get as many of the 8 rows of bonus enemies as possible, then have fun
I could make another video, but finding somewhere to host it is very awkward....
Jx2, 10 rows are possible at the end of Chapter 2. I've seen 9 rows (on a video, not on my plays) and chaining that looks freaking impressive.
As for the generators, I take it you're getting around 14-15 chains. If you use your homing missiles at the right time, you should get 18c and more.
Just in passing: am I the only one that sucks at chapter 2? My best lies around 177 chains or something. (intro 40c)
Jx2 / 27,461,650 / Chapter A / Max Chain 178 - 22nd in the net-ranking. :)
I managed to crack the 44 chain in 2-1! But then messed up the bonus chains at the end of 2-2... still, no matter, im glad to have finally broken 26.6 million, I was starting to worry I'd met my limit.
Saffran: 177 chain isn't a sucky score mate, its well beyond S++, you should be proud. ;) I didn't realise there was that many bonus rows at the end though! I guess I never bothered to count them on the Appreciate DVD... speaking of which, WIZ gets a 201 chain on Chapter 2 which sorta puts us all to shame.
I think the main upgrade to my score this time was the fact that I had 4 lives left at the end instead of 1 or 2... I also managed to pull off a nifty 4-3... only to die at the start of 4-4. Ikaruga can be so very evil at times....
Chris: I think its time you dropped your social/proffesional life and spent some time with the old 'Ruga... I'm coming for your score. :p
Heh, it's funny you should say that, buddy. It's happened. I have a new top score! ;)
ChrisM-UK / 29,753,590 / A / 199
The obligatory breakdown follows:
Chapter 1: 3,893,860 (124 Chain)
Chapter 2: 5,338,140 (141 Chain) <--- Chain Break
Chapter 3: 5,497,610 (155 Chain) <--- Chain Break
Chapter 4: 6,727,160 (199 Chain)
Chapter 5: 5,197,520 (114 Chain) <--- No bullet-eat (would you?!)
I lost 1 life with 4 seconds left on the crystal. 30 million was soooo close! I was literally shaking when the crystal section started. I saw 26.7 million. 7 lives. Potential 30.2 million. Very shaky situation indeed...
The next score I post is likely to be 30 million. I'm brimming over with confidence and determined as ever to nail it now!
:)
Nicely done! You are now officially the best player player in Britain. ;)
So close to 30 mil though! Such a shame... but as you say, theres always next time. It seems to get that little bit easier every time you play. =P
Looks like DaveSS is my theoretical rival for now then... although im not entirely sure hes even playing anymore.
I've been talking to Dave recently. He's kicked the Ikaruga habit for now, I'm afraid. The same can be said for ic too, I think (he had that score when I just started on the game, so I assume he's long since finished with it).
So, you're second in Great Britain if you only count those that are still playing!
;)
EDIT: In response to one of your earlier posts, I have to say that from this point forward, you will find it increasingly more difficult to get your score up. You'll probably find that you'll need to relearn a bunch of strategies and pick up a whole lot of extra chains to go for the big points. What worked for me was milking an extra 10 chains out of 4-2, learning how to do all of 4-3 and 4-4 like WIZ (very hard, used to drop loads of chains here), and getting my 3-2 to a reasonably consistent level.
Keep at it, buddy! It may get tougher, but that's all part of the appeal.
:)
So this is the Jx2 that passed me in the rankings! I've started playing again in the last couple days in the hopes of finally breaking the 30 million mark. I've had a few short unsuccessful comeback attempts, but I've almost shaken off all the rust now. I should be giving you guys some more competition as well hopefully in a few days when I regain my old form.
Hi guys, I'm from Singapore and while watching the Appreciate dvd, I noticed all the players used the single stream vulcan bullet, may I enquire how is that done? What's the technique to it?
basically, you have to tap the shoot button.
Of course, those players are pro and can seemingly endlessly tap the button at a very high pace. Not that it's hard to do or anything, but how they got the idea of using that single stream is a mistery...
No, what they're doing with the single stream is not rapid tapping. It is simply the pushbutton is modified to rapid fire. This is a common practice in Japan arcade. Mainly because of the many games that require rapid tapping of the fire button just for normal shot. It is convenience feature, and allowable under Arcadia hi-score rules.Quote:

Indeed. This can prove awkward for us mere mortal players as we dont have full access to the single stream attack... an example of this is in the section of 3-2 where you are being chased by Miss Shigi. There are sets of enemies that come in two lines that are much easier to chain with the single stream... of course, you can still chain them with the double stream but its much harder.
In fact, there are a lot of sections that the modern GC players get the bad end of... we can't energy release Eboshidori, the game doesn't slow down on the circle shell formations at the start of 2-1, or the boss of stage 3, and of course we don't have proper access to the single stream either...
In the long run though, I like to think that this just makes us better players than the original gamers.
(So close to 28mil btw, new score soon.)
Pulling off the single stream shots where necessary (like in 3-2) isn't very tough to do, so it's not too much of a disadvantage. I think I'm close to 28 million as well, just need to bring up my consistency back to the point it used to be at.
I don't tend to use it at all in 3-2, I just use the double stream on the appropriate sides of each set of enemies.... kind of hard to explain. I'll make a video and post it in an hour or so. :)
EDIT - In fact, I wont post a video... my camera is pretty shitty and only catches blurs due to the speed of 3-2. I need to get a better cam. :(
I don't think I've ever tried using double streams there. Ever since DaveSS suggested using the single stream shots on the last two groups (of the four) in 3-2, I've found that to be very reliable.Quote:

Single shots are a must, much more consistant.
I use plenty of single shots for consistency and accuracy, yes... a lot of chapters 2 and 4 require that. But it some of the sections where the Appreciate DVD players use the single stream I don't see it as necessary... chaining the criss-crossing enemies in 1-4 for example, and the double lines of enemies in 3-2.
Im not the authority of course, we all have our own ways of playing the game, and as long as it works no strategy is necessarily "better" than the other. :)
