problems with ps2 broadband adapter?

Hey, since none of my friends have the broadband adapter yet i though id turn to you guys for help. I went through a lot of trouble setting it up after much trial and error but now that the ps2 has finaly detected my internet connetion the games say they cant login (the only ones ive tried are the 2 demos). Now im curious if my problem is on my end or if to many people are using the 2 demos online and thus me not being able to login. They games startup fine and supposedly connect to the network but when it comes time to register on madden2003 or to enter the chatroom on frequency they say i cant login.

well ive rambled on long enough, if anyone can offer some support in the form of their own knowledge or a website it would be much appreciated. thanks

Consider your self lucky mine never worked. I returned it to the Best Buy and now I'm without a Network Adaptor. Thanks for the help Sony!

morcheebix, if the software said its properly configured, then it should be fine, probably just too many people were logged into the Madden and Frequency servers for you to get on. I was having problems with the demos last night too, but I log on to SOCOM and everything's smooth as butter :)

No, there is an error in configuration. It detects an internet connection, but that doesn't mean it can use the internet connection. I had this problem for about a day, then I tried powercycling my modem (pulling the plug for longer than a minute) and using auto/auto. I have 2 settings I can currently use, one is both auto after powercycling, and another is manual in which I had to use LAN IPs and Gateways, which gets pretty confusing. If you can further tell me if your using a router or directly connecting, brands, dsl/cable, whether you need to log in to the internet, and anything else that could be used to help, I can help you better.. (I'm assuming your using broadband, but if you using 56k I will still help you to the best of my abilities)
And for those of you with D-Link DI-604 routers with firewalls, I heard that port forwarding doesn't work to allow incoming voice messages in SOCOM, but they are working in a patch to be released in the current week.

thanks rich, i appreciate the offer. well how i have my network hooked up is as follows: i run a adsl modem which goes into a the uplink on my hub and from the hub port 1 is used for my pc and port 2 is for my ps2 (i know everything is hooked up right because i used to run another pc off port 2 and it worked perfectly online). As far as how i get online with my isp they let me have 2 diffrent dynamic ip address's at a time and i can admin them online. this is what my isp told me to do with my ps2 :

"You need to register the MAC address of the Playstation2 first on the Online Customer Access (OCA) site to get your hostname. Once your MAC address is registered, the hostname will appear to the right of your MAC address."

Now as far as how i got i got the network adapter to identify my internet connectoin (but not work with the games) i just copied all my ip, netmask, default router, primary and secondary dns info and entered it in the manual setting on the ps2 network setup (when using auto i cant get anything to work. (never entered my dhcp server though, dont know what it is)

Well, if you want auto to work, you can powercycle* your modem, and it should work on auto after that.
I'm not to familar with hubs, for your manual settings, you make up an IP for the ps2. Use the gateway supplied in ipconfig -all and also the DNS and and netmask. All should work fine, unless you actually need to register your MAC address. When creating an IP try using the same as your comp's IP but for the 4th number use one more or one less.

well i just about give up, i tried both of your suggestions i think with my isp i need to register my mac address. well thanks for the help rich, i think i may need to put my dhcp server name in on the auto setting but i have no clue what it is. anyway to find out?

Wow. I thought the BBA configured itself. Maybe I will pass simply because i don't want to deal with the hassle...

In most cases, the PS2 Network Adapter will configure itself, as did mine when it detected the DHCP server running on my Cable/DSL Router.

The setup process is fairly straight forward, but a select few, as we've seen in previous threads, have had problems getting their ISP and network adapter talking to each other.

Here are a few things you may need before setting up your PS2 Network Adapter:

Dial-up users will need to have their login/password ready to slap into the required fields, and also the ISP #.

With certain DSL connections, the ISP requires you to login -- just make sure that you have your login/password written down so you can enter it in the setup.

If your broadband connection requires you to have your DNS and IP addresses manually entered, and you don't happen to know them, then you'll need to contact your ISP to get those numbers.

Hearing a lot of the complaints and troubles a few people have had with the PS2 Network Adapter may turn off gamers that are new to the whole networking thing, but, so far, it's been working great for me.
