The NES version of Strider is one of many games I owned and sold a long time ago but now I want to play again. As long as you don't compare it to the much different arcade game, NES Strider is quite fun. It takes the basic Strider platforming and slashing an puts it in a non-linear, more adventure-oriented environment.

Anyone else a fan? Or was everyone just pissed off it wasn't a port of the arcade game?
I liked it better than the arcade version.
At the time I didn't even know the arcade version existed. I liked it back then, but the engrish in it is laughable. I don't remember the wall jump being explained in the manual, and that was needed to pass Egypt, hence my being stuck for weeks back in the day.
A great game! I think this game blows away the arcade/Genesis version. I know they are quite different but I like the adventure setup much better then the senseless run/attack of the arcade.
It's not the arcade version, but the end result is probably alot better than if Capcom had tried to do a port of a CPS game to an NES (look to the Master System version for the reason why). The arcade one was naturally better left to the Genesis. I still think it's one of Capcom's best NES games and a worthy addition to the series. The only problem was the jumping could have been a bit more accurate.
Fantastic music, though. Espically the map screen.

i respect capcom (strider, bionic commando), tecmo (ninja gaiden), and tradewest (double dragon) for taking quality arcade games, and keeping the original concept, but releasing a different version that the NES could handle, rather than making a crap arcade port that the system couldn't handle...
I played the Genesis/Arcade version first, so when I first played the NES version I scoffed.
I still do, actually.
SMS Strider...that was pain.

Which meant that the NES versions became a whole unique installment instead of a stripped-down port.
And in cases like Ninja Gaiden, far superior to the arcade original.
Don't forget Rygar fo Tecmo also.
