I just don't "get" Game Informer...
Sadly, Game Informer is now the #1 game mag in the country- probably due in large part to that used game discount as a tie-in sale.
GI utterly confuses me. They contradict themselves all the time in terms of ideology. Sometimes, they come off as being true gamers, who have been into games since the old days. Sometimes, they show an appreciation for older games, classic gameplay, and unique titles. Then, they turn around and become a "mainstream casual" crapfest.
Case in point:
Their August 2002 issue featured an article about 2-D gameplay still being vieable. They even mention Ikaruga and Bangaioh.
Every month, they feature classic strategies, and 4 classic reviews. These reviews are often of more obscure games like old TG-16 titles.
BUT
They poo-poo just about EVERY game of the ilk they would seem to like.
Metal Slug X on PSX got trashed on for being "old", yet Contra was on their top 100 list AND they retro-reviewed Gunstar Heroes with high praise.
They shit all over Guilty Gear X for being "old" AND NEVER MENTIONED the fact it was in high-res.
They blasted Rez for being too weird and too Japanese
They shit on Skygunner
They shit on JSRF (though they had some valid points)
They totally shit on Gunvalkyrie- did they even PLAY it?
What is up with those guys?
