Anyone who cries about Canada's healthcare system hasn't traveled much. It's one of the most advanced, efficient systems in the world. If a hospital doesn't have the equipment to treat all it's patients, then they'll be sent down South and the government foots the bill.

The US system has it's benefits for certain groups. The private companies that sell you their insurance and whatnot. Those who don't like sharing their wealth with the poor. And doctors who can't live without buying a new car every month.

-_- hmm, go become a doctor before you say some crap like that again. The stereotypes are not always true. Don't buy into the hype that being a doctor is some fun stress free job of candy and lolly pops where you stand around BSing people and basically having a licence to print your own money. You might also want to ask yourself, who do you want to work on you and your family, the guy who gets paid just as much as any other civil servant or the guy who has a lot to loose if you or your family get fucked over? Honestly they get paid the most because they deal daily with taking care of mankind's greatest asset, life and its preservation.

I have a few friends that are serious pot heads, and I've seen negative changes in them over time as a result. One of the was lucky enough to realise what it was doing to him and stopped.

I didn't say it was a stress free job. I know ER doctors and the like work really hard, but they're paid very well up here too. They won't fuck up because Canadian standards are high, and our Universities turn out qualified people, many of wich are US doctors. The reason doctors are paid more in the US is because US citizens pay more for their healthcare.

It wouldn't totally remove gang violence, but it sure as hell would lower it. Drugs are the number one source of income for organized crime/gangs. There is no disputing this. Put drugs in the hands of huge corporations, and suddenly the gangs aren't making nearly as much money. So there will be less people in gangs, because there is less money to support them. Just look what happened organized crime after Prohibition ended. It crashed and burned.

Also, to everyone saying "Yeah, I knew this guy, and he smoked pot, and he's dumb now, so pot should be all illegal and stuff": How many of you know any alcoholics? I know a few (and knew another, but he's dead now) and they are all in much worse shape than the potheads I know. But somehow, alcohol is still legal.

I would rather hang out with a bunch of stoners then alcoholics any day of the week. I really don't understand why alcohol is legal at all. I mean, if you drink too much you get alcohol poisoning and possibly die. You can't do that with pot (or at least I've never heard of it). and I don't even smoke the stuff... pot doesn't make you throw up or possibly kill you. You just laugh and eat junk food. Both of my parents used to be alcoholics and I'd much rather that they had been pot heads. err..

This all made sense in my mind before I typed it.

It's pretty much impossible to overdose on marijuana. I've read that a lethal dose would be something like a ton smoked in an hour.

If you trully enjoy smoking marijuana, then you should be in favor of decriminalization and NOT legalization.

If the mass-marketing and production has taught us anything, it's that it severely degrades quality and puts a premium on a standard that existed before mass-production. Add to that, the governemt will surely tax the hell out of it and it will become yet another special interest lobby that controls the gov't.

Decriminalization would protect the homegrowers without driving the market price up.

And if you want an example of how corporatization of marijuana would bring quality far down, ask anybody who grows there own carrots or tomotoes or whatnot what they think of grocery store produce.
