As I recall, Chibi was able to buy a real VGA box for the GameCube from one of the online stores out of Hong Kong. Does anyone recall which one?
Chibi, are you happy with your purchase?

$46 + shipping. They seem reliable. I bought a VMU replacement case from them once. Check out their DC stuff too, the Treamcast stuff is pretty funny, if only for the name. ^_^
Both of the boxes above seem to be line doublers that modify an interlaced signal. The N64 compatibility is a dead giveaway which also implies modification of an s-video signal at best. AFAIK the only ways to get a true progressive VGA signal out of the GCN is a hacked D-Terminal cable or transcoding the progressive component signal.
Ok then. Got a nice, quick and easy way to do this? That's what the "VGA" boxes are for ya know... ^_^
It occurs to me that the Japanese D-terminal cable ends in a VGA connection, right? So we need a thingy that converts the digital D-Term signal the GC is outputting to standard VGA...
Otherwise, screw it. I'll stick with component.
1. You could buy a D-Terminal cable that has already been hacked. One example for $50 would be http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/gc/vgacable.htm
2. You could get a component (YPbPr) to RGB transcoder. A big benefit would be that you could use it for the Xbox and any future console that outputs progressive component and not VGA, both of which are very likely. A $189 example is the Model9A62 at http://www.audioauthority.com/aaccon.../9a62detc.html
Is there any difference in quality between those two solutions?
Crap. I forgot about the fact that only games that support progressive scan will work with it. That's kind of kills my plan to move the Cube onto the computer desk.
Lhadatt,
Can't say for sure, as I haven't purchased either yet. The D-Terminal solution provides a true RGB signal while the AA solution involves signal processing, so theoretically the former would be superior.
Yoshi,
The first two VGA boxes should work with any GCN game since they're upscanning an interlaced signal. Just don't expect DC VGA quality. Of course it wouldn't be an issue if devs were a little more forward thinking.
Sorry for the long time to respond. Mario had me this weekend. :) Anyway, that's the cable I use. I love it to death. You are correct that it will only work with progressive scan games on a standard VGA monitor. That also means you cannot see the bootup screen or the system setting screen. It is perfect for me because my multisync monitor will go down to 15 hz when it gets an interlaced signal so everything will display. If your monitor can sync 15 hz and 33 hz then you are in luck and everything will show. Unless you specifically went out of your way to get a monitor that can do that, chances are that yours can't. That being said, most major releases on the Cube are progressive scan, and I can't see any new games not supporting it. The biggest ommisions are problably Monkey Ball and Resident Evil. I still think it is worth it for the picture you get. Truly flawless.Quote:

Any word on Resident Evil 0 supporting progressive scan?
The remake didn't, the BH0 demo doesn't...chances are slim the release version will :(Quote:

I don't get it. Why not support progressive scan? Do the graphics take a hit?
Just wondering if there is a nintendo gamecube VGA box to hook it up to a computer monitor. I could not find it on EB site.
Can we go for 4 threads on the same topic? :p
There's a couple on eBay. I don't know how to paste links, so I'll just give you the Item numbers, so you can type them in the eBay search box..

Those VGA boxes on Ebay do not give true VGA. An S-video signal would look better than them.
What you say?Quote:

Read an interview with the BH0/RE0 producer. Said that adding progressive support isn't very difficult. He just didn't realize it was so important to some until he heard the complaints. I know I won't buy it unless I can play it on my monitor.
Wow man, that seems kind of extreme. But to each his own.
Well, I don't see any reason to reward devs that ignore things that are important to me. Of course that doesn't mean I won't play it. A couple of reasonably paced rentals should do it if it's anything like the others in the series.
