Farscape is getting cancelled!

The announcement was made last night/early this morning that Sci-Fi is canning Farscape. This is my favorite sci-fi series and I hate to see it go. There's a bunch of us who are ready to do a lot to keep the show alive. At this point, there are already 3.5k sigs on a petition and media groups like TV guide and ET have been contacted. We are also ready to contact other networks to pick it up and contact their sponsers to let them know we are boycotting Sci-Fi. This may seem extreme to you, but I'd do the same if a game I was looking forward was getting canned. Panzer Dragoon Orta here I come!

dammit! I still don't have cable and now another series is getting booted off before I can have any chance to see anything?? Bastards, we should go further then just the petition and tell the suits we can "refuse" to watch anything on their station period. spread the word, they do this and they shouldn't deserve to have anyone for their support!

You sure about that? I hear they had the "summer finalle" and will restart the season in January for the "final four" before the new season starts up in June.

The announcement was made by 3 people from Farscape on the Sci-Fi Farscape chatroom last nighe. Ben, DK and some other person announced it themselves that they finished filming season 4 and there will be no season 5. Sci-Fi said they are getting rid of the props for the show in 5 days or so. The Sci-Fi Farscape chatroom seems like a war room with people planning different ways of boycotting and/or screwing with Sci-Fi. Unfortunately if Farscape does end at season 4, there will be no real ending since Farscape wasn't planned to be finished yet. This is just like Batman Beyond, another series canned with no real ending.

Good grief, the only conclusion I can come to is that all the current network suits are spending 90% of their budgets on drugs and just can't keep their shows going anymore. I'm no Farscape fan but I thought it was their number one show??? It was the last show on earth that I thought would be cancelled. Heck, Witchblade was cancelled by TNT yesterday (not a fan of that either...) and it was getting a 2.0 rating which is great for cable. Several months ago Sci Fi's idiot in charge Bonnie Hammer said the network was going to start "skewing away from 'alien/ship material'" and more towards reality/mainstream crap like John Edwards "...because Sci Fi want to be in a position to be number one." What a bunch of idiots. Remember the good old days when you didn't have to worry about your show being cancelled as long as it was getting good ratings? Now shows get canceled just because the suits feel spontaneous. @#$$%^& suits, even when they're making money they aren't happy.

First they cancel MST3K (which cost infinitely far below to produce than what it ever cost them to air it), then they pass on reviving Crusade after they spent all that time trying to get the Babylon 5 rights away from TNT, then they pass on making a series out of the B5 Rangers movie and now this. I say take all the TV suits, pile 'em out in the street and burn 'em. Sci Fi is the dumbest network. I mean, they basically just buy cancelled series from other networks and show the same unresolved episodes over and over. What's the point????? :confused:

Farscape was their #1 show, it's now #2 because of SG-1, but still, it's #2! Farscape has a large fanbase in Australia, Europe and North America. I've already seen what North American fans are doing about this, I can only wonder what Europe and Australia are doing since I think they have a larger fanbase there. I have to agree that the Sci-Fi suits are idiots. They'll probably sell their right arm for a second left arm.

First they cancelled (after they fucked it up) my First Wave (good show with great possiblities, but sadly never realized) then they cancelled Invisible Man (dumbasses!!!) and now Farscape.

I never understood the StarTrek clones. Farscape, Babylon5, Andromeda, etc.

I guess it's cool that there are other choices but Star Trek is Jesus and the rest are just disciples.

The fans are another thing all together. They're the true definition of hardcore.

God damn sci-fi channel. This is one of their biggest mistakes besides killing MST3K and cancelling all anime. Now with this news I'll only watch Sci-fi for the Twilight Zone marathons unless they bring back some classics or they make themselves a new classic. BRING BACK VR5!:D

Yes, Babylon 5 is a "clone" of Star Trek. Never mind the fact there's no technobabble or lame shields in the space battles (the best choreographed and most action packed space battles next to Star Wars), a main character can die at any given time, the aliens actually look cool (apparently on Star Trek all you have to do to be an alien is have a wrinkle on your nose or eyebrow), stuff actually happens in B5 and actually has something called a PROGRESSIVE PLOT which was carefully written ahead of time. As a former long time viewer of Star Trek, TNG, Voyager and DS9 I can safely say they had their moments but are absolute jokes in writing and character development compared to Babylon 5 and there is NO COMPARISON.

Star Trek: "Oh, no shields down 30%.' Captain: 'Use the thingy to fix that one thingy.' 'Oh sorry sir, the thingy is not available right now but we do have that one thingy that I can re-route to the other thingy and maybe make it work!"

"'Sir, 70% of our crew members were kidnapped by aliens on the planet down below. Captain: Sorry we can't rescue them and save their lives efficiently , we have to find a way around the Prime Directive first." AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. GIVE ME A BREAK.

I started watching B5 when it was at the end of the third season and found myself watching Trek less and less and then gave up on it totally thereafter. I used to LOVE Trek and now I can't believe how boring it is. They could have shook things up and made a really cool, gritty series with Enterprise and they give us a ship which doesn't seem much less advanced than Voyager, the same old lame techno tricks and dimensional travel crap and lame T&A stunts. And of course T'Pol who is basically just a Vulcan version of Seven of Nine.

I still like the original series though of course which my dad introduced me to many years ago before I tried much of any sci fi.

Now, with the axing of Farscape, I have no reason to watch.

Farscape was one of the most visually-stylish shows out there.

Once again, I request any fans of the show to contact everyone you can involved with the Sci-Fi channel.

Never seen a single episode of Farscape, but from what I understand, it (and Stargate) was one of their highest-rated shows. Certainly, one of the longest-lasting. Hell, it's plastered all over the subways in NY (maybe a last ditch effort to attract viewers?).

You guys are right about one thing: Sci Fi Channel cancels all their best shows. The only thing I watch Sci Fi Channel for is the occasional Godzilla marathon (which I'm sure they'll do away with before long) and the holiday Star Trek and Twilight Zone marathons. Man, that station is quickly sliding down the crapper.

And, Sci Fi refuses to show ANIME??! Y'know, now that you mention it.. And how the HELL do you run a SCIENCE FICTION network, without "aliens/ship" material??!! This is the very FOUNDATION of Science Fiction!!

I don't consider TV psychics entertaining science fiction.

The bitch in charge of Sci-Fi would be happy if the network played 24 hours of "Crossing Over" and nothing else. She killed Invisible Man out of spite, and I'm sure she's happy to see another SCIFI (non-paranormal) show jettisoned from the network. Why couldn't Stargate have stayed on Showtime so I could boycott the network outright???

Hmmmm. Sci Fi and Fox are both currently run by female execs who have been canceling series left and right, even ones that got great ratings (Farscape, Titus). Your average TV exec is bad enough, imagine one that's PMS'ing.

If a network owns the show they air, they can reap long-term profits from
syndication of the program. More and more, USA Network (and other cable
outlets) is under pressure to own what they produce, otherwise they\'re paying
huge sums of money to produce shows that they air a few times, then the money
goes to the studio that did the actual production. The higher the cost, the
iffier the proposition.

So that may have been an issue here. They needed Farscape to help build their
audience, but now that this seems to be coming together for them, the logical
(for a network) thing would be to start paring away what they don\'t own, and
which is costly, to replace it with their own stuff.

One of the things you can never allow yourself to forget is that TV is a
business designed around making a profit, and determining who owns what
long-term revenue streams.

Doesn\'t affect Polaris one way or another, since if that goes, it would be
under the aegis of the network.

That will be the difficult part about switching to a new station. It would be great if the could just make a season five and be done with it, but I would assume the new channel would want the 88 remaining episodes as well.

Which would mean a serious cash investment. Still, about five different stations are interested at the moment and the show already has a built in fanbase. Easy money. Easy money.

Man, I hope another network does rescue it and makes sci fi look even more stupid.

I haven't watched the show at all, but it has been on for long time. It's really sad that they decided to cancelled a great Sci-Fi show.

I wonder if the woman in charge relizes that if she axes all the alien/space shows and replaces them with stuff like crossing over it will go from being the sci-fi channle to being the new age channle, aka a channle I won't be able to get because I live in the bible belt. One aspect out of all of this is the coverage the fans are just creating themselves. While CNN/BBC are covering the news as well, the fans created ads in the Sydney Daily Telegraph and yesterday's Variety. Not to mention the fund that has pledged over $87,000 so far.
