Ikagura DC has got me back into VGA goodness.
Can I get a true (or at least close) VGA box for X-Box, PS2, or Gamecube?
(I REALLY hope X-Box has one, cuz Shenmue in VGA is just TOO sweet.)

PS2 has a VGA adapter, but it would be a waste of money. DC was designed to have a VGA adapter. Since regular TV's run in 320x240 and monitors run in at least 640x480, the DC doubles it's resoultion. The PS2 was not designed with VGA in mind so what happens when you use VGA on a PS2 is 320x240 strecthed to 640x480. So 1 pixel will be stretched to 4 pixels.
The Cube has a hacked D-cable available that gives true VGA. The link to buy it is in the other thread that should be very nearby. The Xbox has a hacked component video box available that also gives true VGA. I do not know exactly where to get that, but if you check the larger Xbox hacker boards it should be easy to find. Both the Cube and Xbox VGA devices will only show progressive scan games. This is not a problem on the Xbox since all xbox games have that mode. It is a small problem on the Cube, but the majority of games worth playing have progressive scan. Monkey Ball and Resident Evil do not. For both the Cube and the Xbox the system menu screens are not progressive scan and will not show. There is no PS2 true VGA solution since only 1 game even does progressive scan.
I ordered the "Digital-X" Xbox VGA box from Germany awhile ago - the quality of the output is similar to what you'd expect from your DC VGA box - plus it has an analog AND optical out for headphones or a Dolby reciever. These people are swamped with orders though, and though the product is good - they are a small operation and sometimes take awhile to even respond to emails. There's another person in the US that sells converted Xbox High-def packs that output VGA - his reputation is very good and people are happy with his product. Here's the links to the two "true" XB VGA devices that I know of.Quote:

the US guy......
Ah, thanks sphere. Those were the two I was thinking of. I should mail them. I don't have one yet...
I was under the impression that both of the Xbox VGA boxes were actually transcoders. Of course if the picture quality is up there with the DC VGA box I guess it doesn't really matter.
BTW Chibi, you've got me going in the other direction...questioning my XRGB-2's use as an upscan converter. I even found myself eyeing a sweet looking XBR-25 the other day. But first I need to RGB my KX-2501. Any tips?
I reccomend MXPLING the RT12-348 with the VNSPR mod. Gives you the output quality of a KS-3640W!Quote:

Amazing!
LOL/ROTFL!
Anyway - from what I've seen, the Xbox and Gamecube VGA adapters are keen, though it's true the console menus don't show through them.
To elaborate on what Chibi said, Monkey Ball doesn't have progressive scan, but Monkey Ball 2 does... since the two largely overlap each other Monkey Ball 2 would be the best buy and you can sorta forget about the original.
Also, SSX Tricky on PS2 has progressive scan mode (I belive) but for now it is the only one untill Robotech: Battlecry shows up for it which I am told will feature progressive scan.

Actually, the only progressive PS2 game so far is Tekken 4. It even works in VGA if you have a monitor that will sync on green (not too common). There is a fairly comprehensive list of 480p and 16:9 enabled games at http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/index.php.
