I'll cross over to the dark side...

I have a long standing ban on 3rd party products (outside of 1 cheapo PSone memory card) but I've had it up to here with the GC pad. *raises hand high up to indicate his displeasure* I need to know if there are any more... XB/PS2-esque 3rd party pads, or, if anyone thinks the Dual Shock converter thingy is worth the money. Only recommend based on experience, not 'I heard...'. I really want to give SMS another try with a better pad to find out if my hatred of the controls was entirely due to the pad or not.

Well, stay away from the Interact pad, it's crap. The Mad Catz one is alright, it's slightly bigger and feels good (though lightweight), but I don't like the analog stick and A button as much. Overall, I say stick with the official pads over those two.

No positive recommendations so far...

I'd recommend looking out for the new Nyko Air Flo Game Cube pad. Not only does it feature a nice button layout, but it also has rubberised grips and a built in fan, which would no doubt do a good job of improving the one's comfort and grip whilst using the pad, and also reduce the amount of sweat some folks' hands generate whilst gaming. (I've picked up a few game pads after some of my friends have been using them, and it wasn't pretty...can someone hand me a towel?)

Looks like a promising 3rd party game pad...can't wait to try it out myself.

A new pad isn't going to make Mario Sunshine more fun. It's the design of the game that sucks, not the control.

I don\'t like the placement of the control stick. Just because Sony puts their stick down low doesn\'t mean it\'s the best place for it.

I must agree here. I got 120 Shines in about 3-4 days, and never had any control problems...

I did fall through the floor twice, but that's a story for another day.

I'd personally stick to Nintendo's game pad for most games, but some games (esp. fighting games) need a different layout to be played well...which is where some 3rd party game pads come in. ^_~

That thing looks like it was made for THPS. Personally, I hate using the analog to play THPS, and I find the Dpad placement to be rather uncomfortable.

Fair point - I suppose I wasn't reading closely enough. The Naki pad looks pretty well put together for a 3rd party pad if you like the PS2 stick layout. IMO, the Cube pad's only possible weakness is the D-pad, and I don't think that's what Thugg is complaining about.

No, I wasn't complaining about the D-pad (here anyways). The beyond queer face button placment, and worst analog sticks ever are my problems. And the shoulder buttons. And the D-Pad. And the fact it's designed for a 4yo's hand. Errrr... anyways...

I think I'll try that Air doohicky out...

More on point, I have a Dual Shock convertor (from Best Buy) for my Cube. It does a decent enough job with most of the functions, but I did notice a tiny bit of an analog roll that I couldn't correct. Super Monkey Ball was still playable, though, and that means anything else would be too. The Dual Shock 2 triggers also do a poor job replicating the Cube analog triggers, but Sunshine really doesn't use the analog in the triggers, though it does use the digital click extensively. Maybe I'll try it with Sunshine later this week, and let you know how it goes.
