I am very seriously considering opening my own videogame store. I posted something similar to this way back on the GameGo boards. I'm back on track and would love to hear input from everyone about it. From a store name to everything I should carry to do's and don'ts. Come on guys, give me what you've got. Thanks.

What I would like: imports, rare games, game merchandise... all that good stuff. I could care less about domestic games, personally.

This seems like a no brainer, but I suggest that you really analyze your potential staff members. Make sure that they're not only knowledgeable, but also kind and able to deal with idiots. Furthermore, alot of people have this interesting way of hiding their evil, bitchy sides when you're in their presence. Sales may go down the crapper and you'll have no idea that (one of) the cause(s) might be your jaundiced staff members.
That said, make the working enviroment fun. You sell videogames, for goodness sakes. If your staff is happy they'll do almost anything for you. Fact!
Anyway, I truly hope you succeed. If you do, you're living the dream.
I would say the exact opposite of the above, actually. Don't hire anyone. Stay small. That way you don't have to worry about anyone but yourself.
Online selling is the way to go.
I'm sure PaCrappa will tell you the same thing.
Cool thanks guys. I am definately going to do it in New Jersey. My intitial plan is to stay small but you never really know what could happen down the road. I think it is a must to have online sales. I'm not sure what I need to know as far as that goes but I'm sure I'll find out. Keep the info flowing. Thanks again.
I hear the real money is in used games, so focus on those I guess. And if you hire some help, make sure they're not spending all their time playing games.

When dealing with domestic games, your money is not made selling new titles, but selling used titles. The profit margin on the new domestic games is miniscule.
I've heard that about new games. That's very interesting.
