the process of digestion requires much energy - thats why you feel tired as all hell after a big meal.
Actually to my understanding of it, you get tired after eating due to your fluctuating blood sugar levels in your body. After eating a meal your blood sugar (basicaly your energy level) goes up. If you had a big meal, your blood sugar goes up really high and it triggers the hormone called insulin that works to bring it back down. However in most people insulin does too good of a job, bringing you blood sugar down too low and making you feel tired (since this means that your energy level is low). After a while another hormone called glucagon kicks in and brings you blood sugar back to normal. Then your energy level should be just about right again.
All you have to do is get through the short time period where you feel tired and then you shouldn't feel sleepy anymore. (Unless you're actually low on sleep, which is another matter...) :)
I was a vegetarian for a couple of years, and when I get more organized, I will cut back meat some more.
It is so easy to just grab a burger or broil a steak. Veggies demand to be chopped and arranged and combined. Usually, I'd rather put effort into something else.
When it gets down to it, I am not really into the taste of meat all that much. I usually get more enjoyment from the pasta or rice or veggies that "complement" the meat. In my preferred way of eating, it is the meat that is there to add texture to everything else.
I love meat! And I love it in all of it's forms, for all meals.
Breakfast? Steak and eggs. There's nothing like chared cow flesh coupled with unborn chicken embrios.
Lunch + Dinner? You name it. Beef, Buffalo, Fish, Chicken, Turkey, Pork, Veal, whatever. And I always like my meat hot, but I'll have a few cold-cuts every now and again.
There are several meats I have yet to taste, some include vennison, eel, and turtle, but I plan to remedy this situation in the near future. :D
Meat is great, I especially love chicken but I try to balance my meals with maybe 60% meat and 40% bread/pasta/veggies. I know someone from college who ONLY eats meat and can't stand vegetables. At the dining hall he created the: Chicken-Cow-Pig Burger. It consisted of two patties of beef, a crispy chicken patty, three strips of bacon, and cheddar cheese. I think if I ate something like that my heart would explode!
I went to one of the chains of Michael Jordan's Steakhouse and their steaks were delicious... the sirloin melted in your mouth like butter! Mmmmm mmm! And when I went to Japan, they had some good sirloin steaks too, they added some kinda ginger-steak sauce on it and it was another moment that I never forgot! Man, I'm getting hungry now...
Man is the King animal. Thus top of the food chain, it is our duty to eat the weaker animals! We are the ones who have evolved into a creative creature. If we do not eat meat, then we are not human! MEAT! BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE FLESH!
I'm wondering how ice cream comes from a vegetable.
Kelp, Burgundy.
There is kelp in Ice Cream...though only God knows why.
My diet mainly conisists of squid and Skittles.
