tactics ogre for gameboy advance

well, i really wanted this game when it first came out. of 'course allot of you and myself as well had the problem with actually finding as store that had more than 2 copies that weren't sold out. about a month or 2 later, i finally saw a copy but i couldn't afford to buy it. well, i still don't have it and i really haven't been hearing anyone talk about the actual game at all. is it still worth purchasing? who's beaten the game? was it fun? i'm looking forward to the new final fantasy tactics game but that's a ways off so i might get tactics ogre in the mean time. well, what are your thought's, guys?

From the ten or so battles in to it I am, it's great.

If you liked any of the other tactics games (Final Fantasy Tactics included), or like rpg-strat games, I'm pretty sure you'll love it.

As soon as I get the TV adapter I'm going to finally sit down and beat it.

I have only just started it and done a few battles... but so far I love it! This game absolutely oozes quality. It's really deep and complicated, wonderfully so...

Now that I finally finished Golden Sun I am planning on spending more time with it! :)

I bought the GBA just for this game... well and other old rpg ports, but mainly this.

I thought I'd report back in since I have been playing this game a LOT lately...

OMG! It is soooooo good! It is one of those games where the hours just melt away. I had forgotten the polt so I started over 5-6 days ago... since then I have logged about 12 hours and I have played straight thru til morning a few times because I simply cannot put the game down. This game is so addictive and fun. It's like Shining Force on steroids or something... and I love Shining Force. ;)

Everything about this game is great. Nice gfx, amazingly deep and addictive gameplay, good sound... I cannot say enough good things about it. It's worth every penny. :)

God yes, not to mention I believe it had 7 different ending (Ok wait are we talking about the SNES American tactics ogre, or the PS Tactics Ogre. Which sucks because Tactics Ogre was released in Japan for the Snes, but of course we got it on cd.)

Let\'s just say, I was about 1/3 in it as I had rented it, and it kicks SO MUCH ASS!

Well, after hearing so many good things about it, and a supposed limited production scare, I picked this one up. I think it's pretty good, but having only played FFT before (as far as console strat games), it seems like a step down in just about every category. It's pretty complicated, and I haven't spent the hours necessary to learn all the in and outs of it yet, but it doesn't seem as sophisticated or deep as FFT (basing this mostly on the job system, and equipping style). Although, there are some things I like better, too, so for a GBA game, I'd say this is very good.

It just seems like one of those games that I'm going to have to spend alot of time on FAQs to fully enjoy, which seems a little bit counter to the GBA philosophy. But maybe that's just me.

I've heard from some hardcore fans of the genre that it's disappointiingly easy to the point of losing some fun factor. So if you're a Fire Emblem junkie or something you might want to steer clear.

Frogacuda, I think I may know what you're referring to. The enemy AI makes some dubious decisions. It seems to avoid finishing off your low-HP characters, and just targets others with full HP. Maybe the AI is just easier in the beginning, but I haven't lost anyone yet, it's been about 6-7 battles.

I have noticed the same thing about the enemy not finishing off the characters which have low HP... I have had quite a few characters go down to single digit HP but survive.... but I am also not that far into the game and I have had a lot of random encounters to build myself up.

I really like sRPG games though, and I can't wait for Fire Emblem.. which I think looks even better than this game.. but still, I think this is a great game so far. If you're finding the battles too easy you can always use some of your weaker characters. Just an idea...

As far as it being kinda complicated.. yeh it is.. I was a bit lost at first, but once you play for a short while you pick up things as you go. Also, the instruction booklet is pretty think and detailed, so spending some time with it in the beginning is pretty useful. :)

What I meant about having to check FAQs to get maximum enjoyment, is the sheer amount of *specific* knowledge that must be attained to do certain things. Some of the emblems you acquire have very bizarre or unlikely conditions for getting them, and some of the character classes are near impossible to achieve without doing research first.

Anyway, the game *is* good, and I'll spend many an hour playing once school starts (my class schedule always has an or so between classes...damn annoying)...maybe if things were layed out or explained in-game better I wouldn't have any complaints.

Ahh I see what you mean. Well, I agree that the game itself is not that intuitive (especially compared to something like Advance Wars), especially at first.... I am sure I'll be looking at some FAQs for info on emblems and classes as well, but I think it'll be fun trying to get them all. :)

Anyway, I pretty much agree.. but I still think once you get past that it's a great game and so far I am enjoying it a lot. Ï am only 12 or so hours in though...

The Job system was overall interesting, seeing as how your kills in battle determined what you could or couldn't do. If you had more than 4 kills (I think) You couldn't become a priest. But you needed more than 3 to become a knight.
