Reading about the television calibration I came to the conclusion that it's a waste of time for me as I play the majority of games on a twenty year-old Goldtron 24" TV - now this TV is so old it has a beautiful wooden veneer all the way around.
I also have some 80 Watt JVC speakers with three driver units per speaker with some very similar wood style effect.
If only modern consoles were made with wooden veneer.

I agree completely. It just doesn't feel like console makers are putting forth the effort to make thier consoles very attractive anymore. On the surface, I mean. Its a very unimportant selling point, though I used to have a theory about off white and grey colored consoles selling better since the NES, but Dreamcast and PS2 kinda killed that theory. I have my Dreamcast with a green case now, and I wish it was as easy to change out the other systems cases. I always thought there should have been a special edition Xbox with wood trim. Would be hot I say.

Unless operating a screwdriver is considered difficult.
I dunno, I tried to open a GameCube and that was a pain in the ass. PS2 isnt a barrel of fun either. I haven't givin the Xbox a go. Dreamcast was suprisingly easy. plus I haven't seen to many cases to change out for the other systems anyway... and certainly none with a nice mahogany finish.

I hate this "design", even when I was a wee lad and that's what all electronics came in. I thought (and still think) it's just silly looking.

Nasty? Hell no. I'd rather have something like that sitting on my entertainment center than a purple Gamecube or a shapeless, art-house PlayStation 2.
