Microsoft has officially announced their MMORPG for Xbox Live in Japan, called True Fantasy Live Online, scheduled to release in 2003. The game is developed by Level 5, the producer of Sony's Dark Cloud.

The story takes place in a sword and magic fantasy world, the game is action oriented similar to Sega's Phantasy Star Online, you can fight alongside with the companion. You can create your own character based on one of the several character classes, include knights from the royal palace, and sorcerers who can ride on a broom and fly over the sky. The game corresponds to the voice chat function, you can talk with your companion in real time.

There are also a few mini games in the quest, include mining, fishing and wood crafting. The purposes of these mini games are improving your skills and earning money for your living, just like in the real world.

If you follow the link, on page 2 there's a bunch of characters in some art. I'm guessing the ogre, troll/dwarf and Snake guy are races to choose, but I could be wrong.

Exciting. Dark Cloud sucks. MMORPGs suck.

I like how the logo is in no way inspired/taken/bitten/in homage to Final Fantasy.

Matt- Yea, I guess they figured if they can't get Square, they'll shamlessly rip them off. As long as the games fun, that's fine by me. :)

I think the screenshots look nice. But if it's like PSO then it's not an MMORPG. Not that that's bad (I love PSO) but 4-player simultaneous is not massive-multiplayer.

Saint, I agree, DarkCloud sucked beyond belief. But hey, I don't mind a wasted 50 bucks, I'm going to buy some TTWO stock, that should get my 50 bucks back once GTA:VC comes out.
