I recently raised the question about suggestions for a new store. I got alot of really good input and because of that I'm seriously considering an online store first. So what is it that you all like to see at import stores?

Hey:
Well, I think it goes without saying that Saturn and Dreamcast imports are what a lot of "hardcores" will like you for having.

you need to find a nitch that isn't taken...and things that i'm always looking for and can never find are peripherals and accessories...be it a drummania controller, rez transvibrator, a total control 3 for my dc...stuff like that...if i could find a place that carried shit like that, i'd become quite loyal...
I was thinking the same thing. I'm curious about what is a main reason for the importers. Is it that they don't like waiting? It ovbiously is for games like Ikaruga that won't ever come here in it's current state. How about things like Wallscrolls and action figures?
Since most of your customers will probably be infatuated with all things Japanese...how bout selling Japanese porn on vcd.
sounds good to me.
I agree with the accessory suggestion. You can find import games for current consoles lots of places, but the accessories are often in very limited supply.
J VCD porn would be a boon, probably.
Just try to carry everything, at least in terms of software.
The main reason I deal with NCS is because 99% of the stuff I want to get, they have on the day of release. Getting timely releases wouldn't be nearly as helpful to you (I'd think) than having a highly diverse selection.
There aren't nearly enough places online to find PC Engine games, so that be something I'd love to see more of.
Definitely, definitely more merchandise. Yea... some sites have a FEW wallscrolls and a FEW figures...
But you gotta get all the good stuff, if possible. The t-shirts, the figures, the EVERYTHING.
The porn idea is brilliant. Seriously, that would sell. Porn and gamers goes together like...err...porn and gamers.
pc-engine is easier to find than the other old systems~ as far as importing the "classics go", or what have you.Quote:

A good selection of old and new import software/hardware is a must! Keep your eyes peeled for obscure little titles that are mostly mentioned on message boards and carry those, along with the popular stuff and you'll do quite well.
One thing you should stay AWAY from, however: Neo Geo stuff. Too pricey. Not worth it.
Games.
The great thing about the VCD format is that you can copy the cd, and sell copies.
Pirate it up!
The problem with selling accessories, and the reason you don't see so many both with us and NCS, is the fact that #1 they're usually heavy and end up costing a chunk to ship which then makes them quite expensive to sell and #2 they're usually made in such limited production that they dry up in no time. Take the Hori Tekken Stick and the PS2 VF4 Arcade Stick. Both of those got such limited runs that they almost immediately became impossible to get. Hell we only got half the VF4 sticks that we were supposed to and we couldn't get anymore, no matter who we contacted and how hard we begged and pleaded. Also just to let you know... online store competition is pretty fierce. To really stand a chance out there you need to do something like Matt over at wolfgames. Which means you need to come up with some very good contacts over in Japan who can get you rare stuff at a great price, which is unfortunately a very hard thing to do.
Seriously, if you have no moral qualms, sell the Japanese porn, that will keep your profits up during the slow times.
And like 88 said, high quality copies are acceptable in the JapVCD department, go for it.
What every import store carries to help them out during the slow times: DRAGON BALL Z.
The kids will eat that shit up while their parents buy the Japanese porn featuring kids eating shit.
And you'll get tons of orders made by kids that want to pay with Money Order and then never, EVER send their money. Seriously, of all the DBZ orders we get, I'd say we ship about 1/3 of them. And from what Matt over at wolfgames tells me, it's even worse for him.Quote:

If you want to sell to kids, you gotta keep an eye on what's popular like the anime they have on Cartoon Network. Gundam figures, Yu-gi-oh cards, DBZ games, whatever. Especially if you're in a neighborhood where there's plenty of kids.
