Excuse me for the late review, the fine folks at Pathmark took a while to put these on sale. In an attempt to take over breakfast in the morning, FOX in conjunction with Kellog's has decided to create 2 different cereals based on it's popular Simpson's brand. One of these features Homer Simpson and his beloved cinnamon donuts and the other featuring Bart Simpson and his odd choice of peanut butter and chocolate puffs.
Bart Simpson's Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch
The Bart Simpson cereal was the first one I tore into since I was in the mood for peanut butter. From looking at the box graphics it looked like I was in store for something akin to CornPops with a peanut butter and chocolate flavoring. I was definitely right and definitely impressed. It's a perfect marriage like Goobers. Those turned off by Peanut butter and cereal with a styrofoam texture might want to go elsewhere though. Bart Simpson cereal is definitely reccomended to Peanutbutter Captain Crunch and Reeses cereal fans.
The only flaws I could find were the back of the box graphics which was composed of a paltry crossword puzzle and little else. The lack of a pack in toy was also a major dissapointment. Someone definitely dropped the ball on this one.
Homer Simpson's Cinnamon Donuts Cereal
The Homer Simpson cereal is plagued by the same box art and lack of toy problems as the Bart Cereal. I can almost envision Homer strangling Bart for this grevious error. Of course most of that pain was washed away as the cover box art depicts Homer Simpson letting a tear of joy drop from his eye at the creation of a donut cereal. The sight of makes one think of how the simple things in life make it all the more worth living. This joy can now greet me every morning of my life.
The cereal itself looks like a brand new creation where cinnamon and puffed wheat were fused together into a Cheerio shape. The result is something that looks like a miniature Cinnamon donut, henceforth the concept behind the cereal. Sadly they went overboard with it. There's just so much cinnamon on it that your milk will have a full layer of it floating to await you consumption. Apparently there must have been a problem getting the stuff to stick on the donuts. What's left will sadly have to deal with our stomachs as I had to deal with a minor heartburn that was attributed to by of all things, breakfast cereal. Not at all how I want to set out the door in the morning.
Closing Thoughts:
If I were to choose one of these to bring along on a road trip I'd most likely go with the Bart Simpson cereal. It's probably the Peanut Butter fan inside of me but the Peanut/Choco mix is just heavenly. The Homer cereal is actually a good idea but needs a little more product testing. Perhaps the inclusion of marshmallows might help offset the cinnamon overload. I just really hope future editions will improve on the pack-in toy thing. Children's cereal should never go without an extra incentive, especially when it's from a major brand like the Simpsons.
