I don't think Samurai Showdown's main problems came from the graphics, as I thought they were actually pretty good. I think the biggest problem that game had was the control (and it wasn't entirely the controller's fault) and the muffled sounds.
But yeah, Street Fighter on 3DO had some pretty noticable problems with the background graphics. But strangly enough, it played pretty well even with the Panasonic pad.
I can see how someone could be turned off by both games, though.
I remember when this game was set up on the demo unit at my local EB, and people would come in and exclaim "WOW! It looks amazing!"
Casual gamers scare me.
WOTW was made with $70000 out of the developers pockets. Looking at the game, I think one of the team members was running around with $69000 of that money in his pocket, because it sure as hell didn't go into the game. I remember the September 96 gamefan interview with Naughty Dog, where they made it seem as though WOTW was a triple AAA game that redefined the fighting genre.
As much as I hate Naughty Dog, they are some of the most talented technical developers in the business; too bad they're wasting it as Sony's personal fart catchers.
a problem with screen scrolling?
All i remeber is Gamefan giving it a glowing review, proly dave I think. lol!
I guess "screen scrolling" isn't a very good term to describe it. With every 2d 3DO game I played, the screen moved very choppy when moving left or right. I don't know if it was a frame rate issue or what but it was a definite problem I had not seen in 2d games before.
