Which Genesis game developed by Treasure do you like most?
I predict Gunstar Heroes to win in a landslide...
I've only played Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes, and Alien Soldier. Alien Soldier is definitely not my thing and I have only rented Dynamite Headdy, so I haven't spent much time with either one of those games. Gunstar Heroes it is then. :D
I also expect Gunstar to win by a lot but I'm interested to know what the second highest choice will be.
I picked Gunstar myself, and Alien Soldier second.
I voted for Gunstar. It much more universal. Alien Soldier is in many ways a better game, but I am just not that good... I did beat it on easy, but god damn that's a tough game on the default setting.
Gunstar.
Dynamite Headdy wasn't that great. It was solid, and some incredible style and some great bosses, but the regular levels just weren't very much fun for me. I've only played a little Light Crusader, and wasn't very impressed with that either. However, I've only played a very small portion so it could get better later on. McDonald's I still haven't played at all, and I was spoiled by Guardian Heroes by the time I played YuYu.
To that, it really comes down to Alien Soldier and Gunstar Heroes. I haven't put the play time into AS that I should, though I don't like the regular enemies as much as I do the ones in GH (I like tossing those guys). The dashing in AS is great stuff, and it being a boss-fest (with lots of really good bosses) makes it insanely cool.
Gunstar has some nice bosses, though none except Seven Force and a couple of the final ones really hold up to AS, but the regular levels are better, more varied, and hella fun. That plus the shooter level (which I didn't see coming at all, surprised the hell out of me when I first played it) really help push Gunstar up there. For me, for now, Gunstar is the better overall game, but I might change my mind whenever I get really good at Alien Soldier.
Gunstar Heroes, no question.
One of the greatest gaming experiences of my life.
If Treasure never made another game after Gunstar, it would have been enough. Hell, for 5 years or so I thought it was the only game they ever made.
The fact that they are still around making great games today always makes me smile.
alien soldier for me. gunstar heroes being a distant second.
Look at the avatar ;P
Alien Soldier easily. Does everything the SNES can't.
Gunstar Heroes.
I can't understand the praise for Alien Soldier. I tried it out, and didn't have any fun with it at all.
Perhaps I just don't get it.
88: AS ain't the most accessible gaime in the world. When you learn how to play it better and exploit the different moves (some of which were really innovative) it becomes alot more fun. It's a pretty amazing game, but its hard to get into.
Dynamite Headdy is my fave.
Gunstar Heroes is a close second.
Light Crusader is a bit of an oddity. The game looks great, plays great, has lots of personality, and great sound, but the story sucks hard.
I hope someone earnestly votes for Light Crusader. The more I think about it, the more it becomes apparent that it's my second favorite Genesis Treasure game.
I've tried to like Light Crusader, but 5 minutes into the game I always forget what I'm doing and start pushing the queen down the stairs and stacking characters on each other's heads. I don't think I've ever gotten more than 15 minutes into the game.
anyone know a good alien soldier FAQ? someone told me I can absorb bullets but I havent been able to figure out how to do that.
double tap the fire button. Use the burst to hit enemy fire and you cancel it and turn it into heath. It lists all the moves before you start the game.Quote:

Hey:
Gunstar Heroes is a big part of why I once said that Treasure might be a bit overrated, so I am certainly not voting for that. Dynamite Headdy kind of sucks, McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure is cool but not something I stuck with, and I've never even come close to playing Alien Soldier or Yu Yu Hakusho.
That said, Sqoon gets his wish. I really, really enjoyed Light Crusader, to the point of where I've been thinking about playing through again because I fucked up on my last file (free advice: water is useless and just takes up inventory space). Light Crusader is one of the better action/RPGs I have ever played, it actually makes dungeon crawling fun. I don't understand why so many people hate it.

 That's exactly my problem with the game as well. I enjoyed stacking people an shoving them around more then I did the brief killing segments I tried.Quote:

I should go back and try it again...
Gunstar Heroes was my first Treasure game and I'll never forget it. :)
Gunstar heroes for me. While I liked Alien Soldier, I wish the regular enemy sections were longer. Gunstar Heroes just made such an impact on me, that I doubt another treasure game will shock me as much.
For those of you that have played Light Crusader, do any of you remember the right order to pass the tuning fork puzzle? I swear that I played the tuning forks exactly the way the music box did, but it never works. I went so far as to turn to the dark side and looked for a faq, but it didn't tell me shit.
Gunstar Heroes.
Alien Soldier was ungodly difficult, last time I tried. I'll give it another chance, though.
i too voted Gunstar
Alien Soldier was way to hard for me
and
I really enjoy Dynamite Heady, but i i enjoy Gunstar Heroes better
havent really played the other ones
Gunstar all the way.
I've only played it via emulation, and I did not enjoy it, maybe I need to try it out with the real deal.Quote:
Alien Soldier
Meh. I can appreciate the game's puppet motif, but there is something about this game that just pisses me off. I really did enjoy the music during the Back Stage Battle level.Quote:
Dynamite Headdy
I voted for this one (was there ever any doubt?). What else can I say about this one?Quote:
Gunstar Heroes
Never played it.Quote:
Light Crusader
Crap. This game plays like a broken version of Cool Spot, which is pretty messed up to big with.Quote:
McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure
Never played it.Quote:
Yu Yu Hakusho
Thou shalt not diss Cool Spot. That was top-tier early 90s licensed stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I like Cool Spot...to certain extent. The game has given birth to two really cool images which I may figure in my sig sometime in the future.Quote:

Gunstar Heroes was the only Treasure Genny game I liked, and even then it's not one of my favourites.
I don't really like Treasure games much. Silvergun, Ika, and Bangaioh are all brilliant, but their other ones aren't all that fun to play, IMO. Maybe I'm just not much of a "platform game where you pick people up and throw them" kind of person...
Easily the most overrated company on the face of the planet!

Nothing but their shooters, huh? Sounds more like someone doesn't like platformers. ;)
I love Alien Soldier and Headdy, but Gunstar Heroes is what made me love Treasure in the first place, and, to me, is still their greatest achievement and defining moment :)
Yes, that's kind of true! I do like some platformers, but Treasure's seem to be a bit heavy on the gimmick/strategy side of things. I'm sure they're great if you like that kind of stuff...Quote:

Gunstar Heroes is easily Treasure's SECOND best game, IMO.
Alien Soldier, however, does everything better;
Better visual presentation - the control setup screen is the best I've EVER seen, in ANY generation!
Better aural presentation - I simply couldn't believe these tunes were coming out of my Mega Drive. However, some sound effects are lifted from GH.
Better graphics - Bigger and Badder! Huge sprites, an awesome color palette, superior animation on Bosses and other cool effects.
Not trying to take anything away from Gunstar; it's platforming is awesome, the Gunstars' moves and weapons have yet to be bested in any action-platform since, and the diversity of the gameplay is still unmatched.
But for me, Gunstar was the game that showed us what the Mega Drive/Genesis was capable of. Alien Soldier was the game that realized that potential, and forever put to rest the MD's limitations.
Yes, it was hard (I finished it once), but the adrenaline high produced during some of those Boss Battles will leave you shaking.
I can't think of a pure action game that matches Alien Soldier. Contra Hardcorps is the only other game in it's class, but Alien Soldier is just so much slicker.
Adventures of Batman and Robin could have been a contender, if it was actually possible to get past the second level..
I agree that objectively Alien Soldier was a more refined game than Gunstar. It just didn't have the same instant appeal and spirit of fun. But yeah, AS was an incredible game once you got into it. And 25 levels! That's alot of game.
Seeing as I just bought Alien Solder for 18,800 yen, I'm hoping it displaces Gunstar as my favorite. I'll know when I get back home on Tuesday, I guess.
Gunstar for me, with Alien being a very very close second. In the end, I just like some of the innovations in Gunstar best (the board game stage never fails to put a smile on my face). That said I also love Alien also. McDonalds comes in third for me (I don't know what Regus's problem is... it's a great game). Dynamite in third, Yu Yu is fourth (it's fun four player, but single player it sucks), and finally in the end is Light Crusader... I just don't find it to be a very great game... decent at best.
I think Headdy deserves more credit than it gets. It's alot better than McDonalds (and admittedly fun game). It's pretty creative and varried and gets damned challenging in later levels. I think most people just haven't seen it through to the end. Sure it's not as good as AS and Gunstar, but those are two of the best games ever made. I don't see why people shit on Headdy so much.
Since I've yet to play Alien Soldier I would have to go with Gunstar Heroes, awesome game and characters :)
Haven't played any of them, pathetically enough.
One for Treasure Land Adventure. platforming done to near perfection. what a fucking trip that game is.
I just didn't like the levels that much. The first one was great, but I didn't like the plodding pace of the second (and third? I don't remember how far I got) level, nor did I really enjoy how the heads were done. It was a great idea, at the very least.Quote:

Gunstar Heroes. Was the first Treasure game I played, made me a Treasure fan(ok, it was actually Guardian Heroes that did that because I never noticed the company name until I noticed the same logo in Guardian Heroes)...
I guess second would be Dynamite Headdy. I haven't played it all that much but I just kinda like the design of the game. Third would probably be Light Crusader. It's the only other Treasure Genesis game I've played a lot of and I like it a good bit. I've only played Alien Soldier on emulator and that game just doesn't seem to work on a keyboard so I guess I'm calling it fourth. McDonald's and Yu Yu get fifth and sixth respectively due to lack of play time.
But what about the shooter level, and the tower level, and the boss that rotated the level, and the exploding heads, and the later bosses, and.... so much goodness in the last 1/2 of that game. I think its one of the best platformers on the Genesis, but like most Treasure games, they save the best for the end.Quote:

I have played them all, but Gunstar Heroes will always be my fav...
What is this, some sort of trick question?
I guess I should have made a "What's your favorite Genesis Treasure game not including Gunstar Heroes" poll instead. :)
Sounds like I missed out on a lot of the good stuff. One day I'll go through the rest, but I've got to get the gumption to get through the beginning.Quote:

Nah, but seriously, McDonald's TreasureLand is a really good game. Great game mechanics, music and Bosses (of course) make it a pretty well-rounded game.
