System Busters
So I'm taking a look at all the new stuff coming out. Well, specifically Turok: Evo, PSO, and Robotek. All three are on all three systems (well, PSO excluded) and so it hits me - which version of what is worth getting? Not to mention, that if a game comes to all three systems, is it better off just waiting for the last 'version' of any given game, seeing as how it'll probably be the one with the most extras and stuff? I really don't feel like buying a game and then finding out a month later that I could've bought a better version, and I really can't afford to buy more than one version of any one game.
I mean, what do you guys do to determine which will be better?
-
I determine which one is better by using this simple rule:
If it's on XB, it's the best version unless previews or reviews specificly say otherwise.
I'm betting if you switch XB for GC, it'll work perfect 99% of the time for you. :)
-
Thugg is pretty correct, visually the XBox is usually the best version unless reviews and such say it isnt. If you are not rushed then you can always wait for the other version to come out, which wouldnt be a problem considering all the games that are coming out now.
-
If it was originally designed for a specific system it probably has a controller configuration that favors that system. Otherwise take your pick.
-
Well, Robotech isn't coming to GC for another month, so if you want that version you'll have to wait. I don't think it's going to have any extras, though, and the XBox version will most likely look the best.
For PSO, it's looking like the XBox version will be the better version for actually playing online (added character class, guaranteed everyone on broadband), but there's no announcement for it having the four-player split-screen which the GC has as well as a couple GBA downoadables. Combined with the XBox version not having a release date yet (but it'll be a longer wait as the GC rev is almost here), and that's more your desicion. Unless BonusKun drops by, in which case it's his desicion that you will buy the GC version.
There was a thread earlier about comparisions between the different versions of Turok, might want to check that out.
It pretty much seems to be that if a game is multi-system, the PS2 version is the one to avoid as the GC and XBox version will at least look better, and usually the XBox looks better then the GC and has a better pad (if you own the S-controller). In order, usually:
XBox
GC
PS2
There are exceptions, like Burnout which has the GC as the best version, followed by XBox then PS2. If undecided on which version, I wait for reviews.
-
I don't even really like the Xbox but for those 3 games, it's Xbox all the way(Assuming the Xbox version of PSO is identical or better than the GC version).
-
Well, If the game is coming to all 3 systems, I usually go with Xbox version as well. Most of the time Xbox version will have improved graphics, and ability to us Hardrive to save games never hurt. Cube will be a second option, and PS2 a last choice.
When the game is a port(usually from PS2), there are chances that original version might still be the best(Spy Hunter) and it all depends on the quality of work done be porting team.
-
Since those are newer games then my system doesn't apply to it but..
...whichever one is cheap, cheap, CHEAP! (IE: Spy Hunter on PS2 for $20) :D
Controller also plays an issue too...
-
Well, Also when the game comes out to one system with before others, and time frame between releases is too long to wait(Silent Hill 2 comes to mind), I will go with version that is available first, and later might get other one, if its better.
-
Xbox versions will usually be better - unless you're dealing with PC games... that's a mixed bag.
