Star Fox Adventures should be hitting shelves today and tomorrow. Who has it, wants it, etc.?
I want it. Just not right now.
I still haven't decided. But seeing as I have several DVD's that come out today I want, plus Yoshi's Island Advance is tomorrow, I'll probably wait.
EDIT: oh and Sly Cooper and Super Bust A Move 2 are this week as well. :)
Well, I will rent it, once my store gets it :)
Then, If we like it, we might buy that.
Well, Megaman Zero is sitting in my GBA 20% done, Gungrave is on my self still in its shrink wrap, and Mini Moni Tambourine just showed up at my door this weekend, so I'm affraid Starfox gets the "pass".
I have been heavily anticipating this title since the demo that came on that PC mini-disc. Playing it at E3 made me want it even more.
Unfortunately, I just wrote about $625 in checks, so I think I will hold off a week or two. It's not like I would play it this week anyway.
No interest in this what so ever.
I dunno...
I normally don't like these style games.
I was dissapointed when Nintendo slapped the Star Fox name on a nameless dinosaur game.
The screens/movies all looked under-whelming.
Very little actual "Star Fox" gameplay ie. Arwings n' such.
But...for some reason I want to play this game now. I can't really put my finger on why though. I'll probably wait for it to drop a bit in price first...
Nintendo doesn't drop its prices for anyone. Anyone. Super Mario 64 still sells for $40.
I'm going to mooch off Tron's copy for a while. I'm still hooked on AC and I'd rather jump into Kingdom Hearts than this.
GC is $150, and the Player's Choice series are re-releases of games with smaller price tags. Go figure.Quote:

Wasn't it going for $60+ when it was initially released?Quote:

OK, I'm exaggerrating, but I've also yet to see GCN Player's Choice titles. Waiting for a first-party Nintendo game to fall in price is waiting for a long time.
laughably true.Quote:

There's a 100% chance I will be checking out Star Fox Adventures but I'm expecting another tedious Rare game. I hope I'm proven wrong.
Well, in the used game markets, most first generation GC games are droppin' in price heavily. I got Waverace for $20 (complete), Luigi's Mansion goes for $25-30, and Pikmin goes for $35. That's pretty good IMO. If you don't like used games that's a whole different matter. Nonetheless, supply is getting higher and demand is getting lower for these games.Quote:

SFA - I'll pass for now, I can get it full-priced anytime. Yoshi's Island is $25 at Best Buy this week.
I'm still thinking about it, some good impressions here would go a long way toward me getting it. Since I'm still playing AC and barely have time for anything else, I'm not jumping at it, but if the impressions are good...
Five fucking years I've waited! Rest assured, it's in my hands as I speak.
About damn time too!
I'll probably get it. In my younger days, I had always wanted to be a paleontologist, plus Zelda:TOoT's gameplay can't be beat. And unlike Mario or Kingdom Hearts, reviewers haven't been complaining about camera angles. :p The only drawback I see is a lack of innovative ideas.
SFA will probably wait until next week, though, because I'm currently immersed in Thousand Arms for the first time. Gosh, if it weren't for Tsubaki telling people to avoid it, I wouldn't have known enough about it to buy it.
Nope, not me.
Yoshi's Island GBA, GunGrave, and Kingdom Hearts come first.
Oh wait, Star Fox Adventures was never on my list.
- Kabuki
I may pick this up tomorrow. I am hooked on Animal Crossing but I think with the 2 of them I will have a nice diversion from game to game.
i've wanted this game for far too long. how long can it take to clone ocarina of time? now that its out, i think i have to buy it.
Mmmmmmm, I like you, what's your name again?Quote:

We all know there's only one Ocarina of Time. Even Majora's Mask couldn't pull it off.Quote:

I'm pretty interested in this game but I've still got Sunshine to beat and FFT has been sitting there waiting to be played, so that'll probably take up most of my gaming time in the near future. Eventually though.
And you could do better than most of those prices. But you have to buy used.Quote:

Thanks for the tip on Yoshi's Island - I'll be picking that up this week.
Tron picked up SFA. The opening flight sequence is so much like Panzer Dragoon it's scary (hint: it's not on an Arwing) so those of you who aren't otherwise interested should give it a rent, if just for that. The early ground sequences are about as interesting as anesthesia, but I've grown to accept that from Rare games. Here's hoping it livens up.
Yeah, I don't see it as a big deal if the games are not heavily scratched, plus saving 50% off is more than worth it.Quote:

Who's Tron? Your GF? If so, her name kicks ass. ;)Quote:

And I played the demo so yeah, the opening scene was cool. I was very surprised that that was the first part of the game...
If I have $50 in my hands before Shenmue 2 comes out, SFA is mine. If I don't, it'll get bought after Shenmue 2, whenever I got money.
Does'nt Shenmue 2 not come out till like November? Can't scrape up $50 by then Ethugg?
Anywho, I have played the demo, and it feels boring. It could have benifited with a Jump button. Sure the 64 Zeldas did not have a jump feature, but they did not need it. From what I have played of SFA, it would have felt better with a jump button. I will not buy this game till I have played a friends version to some extent. Besides I should save my money for Blinx: The Time Sweeper. SFA just does not seem worth it.
No, money is really bad right now. :(
By the way, the flying sequences own. I've read people post that they feel very stripped down - ie no barrel rolls and upgrades, and that's just not true. The only thing I found missing is the lock-on.
I'm somewhat interested......I might rent it this weekend. I think I am going either get this or Super mario Sunshine sometime soon.
As sad as this from the thread creator, I am going to pass on SFA and get Yoshi's Island and the rest of the e-reader games instead.
Looks pretty interesting, but I still need to finish Super Mario Sunshine. And that may take awhile.
I may way to pick this one up on the cheap. Looks fun, but I don't want want it that bad. I've been thinking about getting Hyper Rails for PC.
I'm probably gonna pick it up from Target so I can score one of those nifty Fox McCloud bobbleheads.
I've never been interested in the game. I wanted arwings damnit!! not dinosaurs! Hopefully Namco makes a damn good game. Anyway, I',m busy fine tuning my Ikaruga skills, I then have my copy of Radiant Silvergun, that I just got, to play.
Hmmm...I think I'll trust my better judgement and pick it up. GameStop, here I come!
Well I picked it up and am very impressed with it thus far. It does play a lot like a Zelda game which in my book is not bad. It does have some minor differences, for example the little dinosaur that follows you around which you get to command (dig, stay, heel) brings some new puzzle features to the board. And let's not forget to mention the incredible graphics, I believe I was getting an upgrade for Fox's staff. Standing on top of a light source revealed some incredible effects on the character model... wow.
D
Cool! Guess I'll be getting my copy from Target too :)Quote:

i signed it out from work and i have to say visually the game is very impressive and i hope other studios do as good a job with the visuals as this
as far as the game itself i dont knwo i have to find some gift for some big stone guy but now im in som ebig purple area and i need a key but i cant find a damn key anywhere
So far it seems pretty boring although its probably the most amazing looking game I've ever seen. Nice bump-mapping on all the vehicles(@ 60fps) , fur-shading, grass effects, heat wave effects, bluring, the most amazing lightsourcing effects I've ever seen, and the water, its reflective, translucent, it distorts everything seen through it and the surface looks bump-mapped. The textures stay very detailed as well, with beautiful colors. I just hope the game gets less boring though, I need more than just pretty graphics to play through a game.
I actually don't like the look of the fur at all. I can see how it might look good on an HDTV, but to me it looks like a blur.
played almost 2 hours last night. the graphics and audio are great. i'm very impressed with the music. the gameplay is what i expected. i like it so far, and i think it has the potential to get better.
Apparently the last battle is worth the price of admission alone.
D
after playing this ice moutain speeder thing about 20 times now cause they dont tell me what the fuck to do i just start going down some moutain on a speeder i can say with much assurance this game fucking sucks ass
so glad i signed it out and didnt waste 50 bucks on it
nothing but eyecandy here for me
There may be only one Ocarina of Time, but IMO Majora's Mask was better.Quote:

Majora's Mask is very underrated because it gets compared directly to OOT constantly, and it's a completely different type of game. It's structure and gameplay is entirely different, it's just not the same experience. Appreciate it for what it is, a unique take on the Zelda franchise and you'll see it's a fantastic game
I think all you have to do is beat the two dinosaurs down the mountain (A accelerates & B slows down). Dunno if Slippy tells you that or not, but he usually has good hints if you get stuck.Quote:

Saw it today, looks pretty amazing. Dunno if I will buy it, but I'll certainly rent it for a weekend.
I want to play it, but not bad enough to go get it right away.
I got it from Target for $47 (there was a sign that said "Lower than advertised!") and got the Fox bobblehead. Pretty good deal. So far the game seems OK, and will be good for breaks in between Animal Crossing sessions :)
-Kevin
After much waffling, I finally decided to pick it up.
I like it. I'm not all that far (just beat the speeder sequence to rescue Prince Tricky), but the visuals are amazing and the audio is perfect.
"Dino Talk" is a bit annoying, but you don't have to endure it for long, and I give credit to Rare for developing a new language for this game (even if it's just an English variant).
About the fur...I love it. I've, twice already, run Fox back and forth for no better reason than watching his tail, simply because it had fur on it. I must admit I thought it looked sloppy at first, but I was kind of wanting an excuse to not like the game. After finding no such excuse, it became no short of fantastic! It's Fox! And he has fur!
I'm looking forward to spending more time with this when I get home tonight. :D
I beat the first boss yesterday and if it's any indication of the rest of the game, it's going to be great.
D
Is Target the only store offering them? I'd kill for one of those! :(Quote:

I want SFA but there's just too much on my plate right now. I've got a heavy Animal Crossing addiction, Mario Sunshine still has about 8 stages to go, and CHOD is only 35% complete. Not to mention I just got Robotech and Obi-Wan...
Oh yeah, I WANT A STAR FOX BOBBLEHEAD!!!
Pretty average game. It's every adventure game cliche ever wrapped into one nice, mediocre package. You've got your "carry this item from here to here," your doors that require a specific type of key, your fire shooting up from the ground that you have to time your way past, etc. It's pretty annoying, and I wish the game had more originality and its own gameplay style. It's Zelda-lite. Plus, you've got your usual Rare collect-a-thon, if you're into that sort of thing. There are so many goddamn things to collect that you'll have to write it down and draw pictures just so you can remember what a certain item is.
Fox is a great lead character though. He's got a "badass" aura about him that every adventure hero should have, and I love it when he rolls his eyes when Slippy or the captain start talking to him about obvious things.
The short Arwing sequences are pretty sweet and only make me wish the Namco game would get finished faster. The graphics are incredible and easily blow away anything on the Xbox, if you're a Nintendo fanboy and want something to use in your stupid fighting.
You suck at an extremely early race sequence in the game = the game sucks?!Quote:

It didn't tell you what to do?! WTF?! It's a freaking race sequence! What you have to do is win! It isn't that hard to figure out, john.
You're an ass.
I played it for about 1-2 hours last night and am currently in a village with the ankylosaurs. I've got no clue about what my objective is... Fox needs to do something with his powered-up staff, but I don't know where that should be. ...need strategy guide...
I wish the environments were more wide-open like the overworld in Zelda:TOoT. The numerous hallways connecting areas makes the camera and (then consequently) my head spin. The resultant mild nausea was the only thing to stop me from playing more.
What's the best way to attack flying creatures before they hit me? Fox doesn't really aim up when he swings, and he can't knock them down from long-range with the fireshot.
PS This game suits my taste more than SMS. :)
That's how I've been dealing with the "Eggstealers." I swat my staff around, and if they're close enough, they die.
Or I just avoid them.
My girlfriend got it in like 5 tries. And she's a girl. You should just give up gaming altogether.Quote:

Getting back to my question, where should I put that staff? Is Fox supposed to shoot something? I'm looking for the ankylosaur leader.
Do you mean the "Earthwalker" Queen?
What was the last thing you did?
D
Yeah, that's it. I can't keep track of the make-believe names.
I've been to the moon cave plus another area (but don't have keys), and I've also collected the staff fire-shooter powerup.
This is all in the proximity of where Fox landed his ship at the beginning of the game.
Oh, I'm only kidding.Quote:

Fox can knock them down with the fireshot. That's the best way of dealing with them, because if they're already on top of you it's unlikely that you'll be able to hit them without them hitting you. But if the flying creatures are already attacking, just stop and hold the R button. Fox's staff will act as a shield, the creatures will eventually back off a little, and you can shoot them with the fireshot. :)
Remember when you won your first battle with the staff, a red square jewel appeared above that door the baddies came out of? Shoot it with the fire upgrade. The Queen is right behind the door. :pQuote:

Yeah, it's a Target exclusive. According to the card on the bottom, only(?) 30,000 were produced.Quote:

They're made of ceramic too, which is pretty impressive. I figured they would be cheap plastic figures. The paint job on it is pretty sloppy (especially on the base where it reads "Star Fox Adventures") but hey, it was a freebie and I paid $3 less for my SFA game so I'm a happy camper.
Oh, and be sure to ask for it when you're there. The guy in the electronics department at my Target was clueless, even though the box was sitting right next to him on the floor. "Oh, that's what this box is for?" :wtf:

I hope I can still score one. I don't have a Target local. I also have the Target-exclusive Mario (w/GCN) and DK bobbleheads. They're quite nice and fit right in with my other Nintendo bobbleheads, available at retail.Quote:

Can we call Star Fox Adventures = SFxA, or SFAdv, or StfA, or something?
and where has Street Fighter Alpha been discussed to any length within the past 6 years or so?
There's a ton of acronym overlap, context is key.

Can we all chill out here? Differences in opinion on a game don't need to become personal attacks.
Anyway, I agree with Lithium - the acronyms here are used in context. It's not as if someone started a thread with "SFA" in the title and anyone was confused or misled about its contents. We all know what SFA means in this thread, and we all know what it would mean in a Street Fighter thread. Defending acronyms when their meaning is clear makes the defender look like a spamming fanboy of whatever series is being slighted. No matter what the World Wildlife Fund will tell you, no one has an exclusive interest in acronyms.

how much like Zelda is SFAdventures (is that a good acro)? Does it feel like Zelda through and through without much of its own charm, or does it have its own qualities? I've played it twice before, but I still can't say whether Adventures stands out in its own right, or if it's a 'me too' game.
I think it stands out, if not for anything but the characters. They drip with personallity. Especially Fox.
As far as the gameplay, smooth, easy to handle, and though your objectives might be a bit fuzzy at times, Slippy is always there to give you a gentle push in the right direction.
Nothing new or ground-breaking, but a solid game.
And, yes, OoT is an excellent comparison.
This game is geared towards degenerate furries who butt-hump their stuffed animals. Everyone else should avoid it.

It always dissapointing to come into a thread to read a discussion about a game, only to find people arguing about stupid shit.
You know what the most amazing part of this game is? The lack of load times. Fox goes from one HUGE area to another, and you never see a loading screen. wild stuff.
If you're gonna mention Street Fighter Alpha, you're gonna want to mention Alpha 2 or 3. You don't need Street Fighter Alpha 1 anymore.Quote:

I take it you two are done arguing. I hope I don't have to finish the debate myself in a most unpleasant manner.
To be honest, SFA doesn't feel like Zelda at all. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up to you.
SFA is Street Fighter Alpha.
SMS is Super Mario Sunshine (no one, save for a few even give a fuck about sega master system)
SMB is super mario brothers (when monkey ball sells more, they can take the name away).
In an StarFox thread, SFA means Star Fox Adventures. Acronyms aren't about which game has the bigger dick. They're about identifying a game in shorthand.
Oh, I know that, but ac means air conditioner and all round these parts at times, I thought it was the in thing to do thesedays.
Whee!
