What's the word on Sly Cooper? The preview clips I saw looked kind of impressive. This one is already released, but I haven't seen anything on it. No buzz, no hype, not even any trashing. Anyone?

EGM seemed to like it: 9.0, 8.5, 7.5.
There are a couple very favorable reviews on the web:

Yeah, they're IGN and Gamespot, but I think they give a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Sly's also retailing at $39.99, which is nice. Considering what I've seen of the new bunch of platformers (Ratchet, Blinx, etc), I like Sly the best. I'll probably pick it up sooner or later.
I saw some movies on it in a recent OPM, looks great. I'll pick it up when it hits $20.
I've already seen 2-3 different commercials for it today.
I played through the demo and (shockingly) loved it. No, this is coming from a guy who sat out Rayman and Klonoa, since I pretty much gave up console platformers after playing Donkey Kong Country.
Conversely, the Ratchet & Clank demo almost reinstilled my distaste for platformers. It seemed like typical, gimmicky, soulless PS2 fare.
Just as I said in the Blinx thread, I will give both of them a rent, when they out. If I end up liking them, I might pick them up later on :)
If I get a PS2 again, this is one game I gotta have, no question.
Sly is like a cute, animal version of Metal Gear Solid ;)
I happened by one of the PS2 demo kiosks in Best Buy a few days ago, saw that Sly Cooper was running, and figured I'd try it for a minute or two to see what it was like (usually hate those games). I ended up playing it for something like a half-hour, the game just grabbed my attention and held on to it.
It's great fun, and the control is surprisingly excellent. Graphics are absolutely amazing, too.
It looks like another generic Western-made attempt at the 3d mascot-platform genre. I will definitely check it out via demo or rental but I'm not expecting something worth buying.
This game makes me wish I had a PS2. ;_;
The cartoony aesthetics of the characters and environments are sublime. I'd say it looks almost like the outcome of a team-up beween Don Bluth (80's-era) and Tim Burton.
I've played through the E3 demo discs many a times. I really liked this game and will definately be picking up a copy tomorrow.
I got the same feeling here. We got the E3 demo of this also and I thought it was incredibly uninspired.Quote:

I was thinking about picking this up with some store credit later tonight.
along with Bust a Move 2!
I stopped liking platformers when they went 3D. Mario 64 was a huge disappointment for me. That makes me hesitant to buy any of the platformers this fall. It's funny, the transition from 2D to 3D changed the kinds of genres I like. For example, platformers are out, but racing games are in. I could never enjoy behind-the-wheel sprite-based racers, with very few exceptions.Quote:

I love the artwork on Sly and the reviews are strong, so I'll definitely rent it and possibly buy. I'm also looking at Crank the Weasel and Vexx, but I want to see a lot more before I get too interested.
Glad to hear you liked Sly. Maybe I can like a 3D platformer after all. :)
I love it. And the cut-out, cartoon-esque cut scenes are incredible!
I haven't liked watching a cut scene that much since Twisted Metal 2.
There's just something about 2D cut-out animation that I love!

Dammit.
