I'm probably missing some, but this is most of 'em. Which of these games do you plan on buying? Which do you plan on renting?
I only have a PS2, but I plan on renting all available on the PS2. The only one that looks like a possible keeper at this point is Sly Cooper, but the reviews could sway me.
I'm really looking forward to Dr. Muto. Don't know why, I just am. I'll also be picking up Blinx, Sly, Rachet & Clank, and Vexx.
That's all of them except for Crank.

Rachet and Clank-Looks horribly boring. Seems to be standard platforming fare. I'll pass.
Sly Cooper-Looks really great. I love the cel shading in it and a stealth based platformer is a good idea. I'll be getting it once I get a PS2.
Crank-...who?
Dr.Muto-I dunno yet. On one hand, I've heard very little about it. On the other hand, what I have heard sounds really interesting. On the mysterious third hand, it's also by Midway...I think. That's usually not the best sign...
Blinx-Definately. The time control is such a novel idea. I might wait until it's cheaper, though, due to there being so much stuff I want more than it.

Rayman 3-I loved Rayman 2, it's probably my 3rd favorite 3D platformer, right under Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure. This game looks just so incredibly slick. Definately getting it.
TJ&E 3-I'd assume you'd call it a platformer, right? I never played the first two games all that much but it seemed like I would have enjoyed them and I think I'll enjoy this game as well. Definately getting it.

Don't dig the 3D platformer?
-Dr. Muto looks like absolute trash. Who came up with that horrendous character design!?
-Rachet and Clank, i'll pass, over 300 different weapons/tools is cool and all, but there are a lot more better looking games.
-Vexx has some of the worst character desgin in the history of video games.
-Crank the Weasel does not have much coverage yet so not sure.
-Blinx all the way! Blinx will own you all! It looks like one amazing game.
-Toe Jam and Earl III looks phenominal as well. But I might have to push back its purchase.
-Sly Cooper, I might get it when its used or something. Seems pretty neat from the demo, not sure though.
-Rayman 3, Rayman 2 was pretty cool. But I did not have the desire to go through it again. And the new one does not look as cool.

All these new characters look lame and I am once again reminded that mascot-platformers, which at one point in time were my favorite genre, have gone to shit.
I plan on at least renting all the games mentioned. I suppose Blinx looks the most appealing.

I know Tron is going to run out and pick up Blinx, so I'll try that out.
I'm really interested in R&C - it seems a whole lot like Jet Force Gemini, which to me is a wonderful thing. Sly looks interesting, as well. But I'll probably hold off on those two, given the velocity with which most PS2 games wind up in the bargain bin.
The only one that intested me at E3 was sly cooper. It was still quite the generic 3D platformer though. I loved Rayman 2, but Rayman 3 seemed quite shitty.
Whatever, sunshine gave me my fix for the year.

Its just like the early 90's Mascot Platform fest. 75% of the Mascots are just shit. Look at Vexx, Dr. Muto, and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger for god sakes! Those character designs are trash! Vexx is by far the worst of them all. I remeber seeing the original look of him, he was like a Badger. Now he is a stupid looking Human Badger things with stupid boots and stupid hands.
Dr. Muto, pffff. What a cliche and tired design. The standard mad scientist except drawn by an 6 year old.
And Ty the Tasmanian Devil....er Tiger might as well be a breakfest cereal mascot. I can only see him holding a spoon full of orange colored corn meal boomerangs.

The only ones I'm interested in are Sly Cooper and Blinx. I played a Sly Cooper demo for a little while at WalMart today, and I dug the MGS meets 3D platformer style. The game also looks great, which is a plus. Blinx's character design makes me want to vomit, but the whole time control idea sounds incredible.
Tork is also definitely on my radar, but it's not out till next year.
Edit: Psychonauts, too, for that matter.

For the record, I just picked up Sly Cooper, and I'll be getting Blinx, R&C, TJ&E, and perhaps Vexx. I don't trust ANY game that's coming out on all three systems, and Vexx is the only one. Still, I hope it's solid. I can't get enough 3-D platormers...or 2-D, for that matter.
I'm in complete agreement with Neo-Zeed on this. Contemporary platformer mascots stink. To contrast them unfavorably with old-school side-scroller characters is not to suggest that the genre hasn't always been dominated by crap. It's just that even the best platformers now have absolutely no aesthetic. Of that analogous list of 90's mascots, at least half of those are considerably superior to the likes of Ratchet and Clank, Vexx, and *cough* Ty.
Personally, I think it all started going downhill after Crash came out. :mad:

I like the look of Vexx (even if the print ads are stupid as hell) and want to play the game. R&C I don't know much about, and don't know if I should care about it. Blinx sounds really cool. Sly Cooper sounds really cool. I know nothing about Crank, and am unsure on Dr. Muto.
I was looking forward to Vexx, but that doesn't come out til February 2003, so it don't count. I'm looking forward to rayman 3 and maybe Sly Cooper.
