Lord of the Rings for the XBox

I was very much looking forward to this title. Got it this evening and spent my first - and last - hour with it. Some impressions:

Graphics are glitchy - got into Bywater and stood under the bell and all Frodo would do was jump from side to side - as if the graphics had him on a spot that had to keep reloading - most of the movement was that way. Nothing smooth about the camera angles when you run...

The early quests seem very trivial - and lack any real imagination.

The gameplay seems very uninspiring and dull....

Gotta say - very disappointed. It's going back to EBGames tomorrow. Anyone else have any thoughts...

None myself, but person on gamefaqs says the beginning is actually the best part of the game and latter parts feel more rushed. It's also quite short. Bah to liscensed games made by inexperienced game developers.

I'm buying this regardless of what anyone says. Inexperienced developers don't take the time to include 16:9 and progressive scan support. And every screen I've seen indicates it'll be infinitely better than that other LOTR game. I doubt anyone has put in enough time with it to beat it already, nor would I believe anything written on GameFAQs that involves taste or opinion anyways, so nuts to them.

Or maybe they just added those as other "features" to help a crappy game milk another couple of sales of a licensed title?

I thought all Xbox games had progressive scan support.

I just picked it up and haven't opened it yet (Have to finish a review for Icewind Dale II first), but I haven't seen anyone talk about it.

Is it going to be THAT bad?

It's on sale at Circuit City for $40. That's all I know.

I assume you're referring to the Sierra game. Tron's playing it as I speak. It looks to be a pretty solid adaptation of the book so far (her thoughts, not mine) and it looks to be a adequate if not groundbreaking adventure game. Frodo has a neat purity meter that measures the Ring's pull on him - if you use the Ring too much, or do bad things like beat up chickens or steal stuff than isn't yours, you slide into darkness and eventually die. If you're a Tolkien fan, I'd give it a hard look, but everyone else should probably pass.

Cash. Run.

Two Towers will be good though...
