Quarantine

Before Grand Theft Auto, there was Quarantine.

Developed by Imagexcel and published by Gametek, this underrated PC series allowed you to drive a cab and run over pedestrians around a large cyberpunk city. I only played the demo of the first game back then but I enjoyed it. The graphics were great for its time and it was fun upgrading the taxi with weaponry.

I have heard mixed opinions on the sequel. Some say it's a better game, some say it's more linear than the original and isn't as good.

The only console port of Quarantine that I know of is the 3DO version of the first game. Anyone played it?

Ah, yes. Quarentine! I remember playing this one on the 3DO long ago. Scaling graphics and rudimentary 3D sure seemed cool back then. All I know about the sequel is that it IS more linear than the first.

This series, especially after the success of GTA, could do VERY well to be updated...

I always wanted to try the 3DO version, but I could never find it in stores. So I just gave up after a while.

My friend bought the PC version years ago, and it provided the two of us with much fun. I'm curious as to how it would play today...

I own the PC version, but it doesn't work well on newer computers so I haven't played it in a long time.

I bought the game for my 486 25mhz machine way back when. I had played the demo, and I liked it so much I bought the full game as a result.

Problem was, the full version didn't play on my computer! Very strange to see the demo work, but not the full version.

Yes. The PC game was technically playable, but not very fun. More like a chore. Its engine did a (very) few interesting things for the time, but it was mostly a souped-up Wolfenstein with taxi cab objectives.

I LOVE Quarantine, played it all the time back in the day. Incredible game, I wish I could find it somewhere. The sequel sucked ass though

Quarantine's great! Crazy Taxi meets GTA :) I used to have the PC version back in the day, and enjoyed the heck out of it; I imagine the 3DO rev is much the same, but I don't know how well it would control with a pad.

The sequel is supposed to be terrible.
